(2024·江西·三模)NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour recommendation about what to view and read this weekend.
Riddle of Fire
Riddle of Fire is set in Wyoming. Three kids just want to play video games, but their mom gives them a request that
only when they bake a pie for her ten can they play their video games. So this launches a little charming adventure.
Full in love with this movie, I hope other people will heck it out. — MonicaPalm Royale, streaming on Apple
TV+
Palm Royale stars a bunch of women and is set in the late 1960s-Kristen Wiig plays a woman who wants to fit in
with the rich society at an exclusive Palm Beach club. There is a sub-plot about women’s environmental
consciousness. It is silly fun, with excellent costumes. — DanielleCollecting the Simpsons, by Warren Evans
This book takes you through the T-shirts, the video games, the comics, the cookie jars, all the Simpsons stuff that
was produced around the mid-90s. It goes into the Bart phenomenon where Bart Simpson was tied fighting in the
Gulf War and playing local music. It’s a fun and interesting tip into that time. — JordanGet the Picture, by Bianca
Bosker
Unlike her previous book Cork Dork exploring the wine world, Bianca’s new book sets out to better
understand the art world. Instead of talking about things in the art world that sound strange, she goes in with an
open heart and tries to listen to what people are saying. I learned a lot about art, and I appreciated her approach. —

(2024·广东广州·三模)Brian Peterson had just moved to Santa Ana, California. Outside his apartment, a
homeless man was often yelling on the street corner, sometimes keeping him awake at night. Peterson, 28, would
pass the guy on his way to his job as a car designer, but they never spoke. What could they possibly have in
common?
One day, Peterson was relaxing at home, reading the book Love Does, when his quiet was disturbed by the
homeless man. Inspired by the book’s sympathetic message, Peterson made an unexpected decision: to go outside
and introduce himself.
Peterson learned that the man’s name was Matt Faris. He’d moved to Southern California from Kentucky to
pursue a career in music, but fell on hard times and ended up living on the street for more than a decade. Even
though Peterson, a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art, hadn’t picked up a paint brush in about eight years, he
found himself asking if he could paint Faris’ portrait. Faris said yes. “I saw beauty on the face of a man who hadn’t
shaved in probably a year, had overgrown finger-nails and probably hadn’t had a shower in close to a year. But his
story, the life inside of him, inspired me.” Peterson recalled later.
Peterson’s connection with Faris led to Faces of Santa Ana: a nonprofit organization that befriends and paints
portraits of unhoused community members. Using a black-and-white photo taken with his phone, Peterson selectscolors based on the subject’s personality and life story, creating powerful portraits.
Peterson sells the 30-by-40-inch canvas — signed by both subject and artist — for a few thousand dollars.
Faris used the portrait funds to record an album, fulfilling his musical dreams.
Peterson has discovered that the buyers tend to connect to the story of the person in the painting, finding
similarities and often friendship with someone they might have otherwise overlooked. “People often tell me, ‘I was
the one that would cross the street. But I see homeless people differently now.’” Peterson says.
4.Why did Peterson speak to Faris?
A.Faris’ yelling disturbed his sleep. B.He decided to make a new friend.
C.The quiet while reading was broken. D.He felt a drive to practice kindness.
5.What inspired Peterson to paint Faris’ portrait?
A.Faris’ life story. B.Faris’ beautiful face.
C.Desire for art practice. D.Sympathy for the homeless.
6.What do the buyers think of the canvas?
A.They reveal the life of poor people.
B.They bear delicate signatures from artists.
C.They show vivid portraits with rich colors.
D.They build bond between people seemingly different.
7.Which of the following can best describe Peterson?
A.Brave and kind. B.Talkative and considerate.
C.Talented and ambitious. D.Perceptive and sympathetic.

(2024·宁夏石嘴山·模拟预测)Reunions offer a chance to reflect on how much has changed. One
happened in Hollywood when Here premiered (首映), bringing together the actors, director and writer behindForrest Gump 40 years later for a new film. The stars were “de-aged” using new AI tools, making them more
youthful in some scenes and enabling the filmmakers to see the transformation in real time while shooting.
With the use of generative AI in film making come things worth watching. The first is how AI will be used to
tell new types of stories, as storytelling becomes more personalised and interactive. No one is quite sure how the
nature of storytelling will change, but it is sure to. David Thomson, a film historian, compares generative AI to the
advent of sound. “When movies were no longer silent, it changed the way plot points were made and how deeply
viewers could connect with characters.” Cristóbal Valenzuela, who runs a company providing AI-enhanced
software, says AI is like a “new kind of camera”, offering a fresh “opportunity to reimagine what stories are like”.
Both are right.
Another big development to watch is how AI will be used as a time-saving tool. Generative AI will automate
and simplify complex tasks like film-editing and special effects. For a glimpse of the future, watch Everything
Everywhere All at Once, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2023. It featured a scene that used a
“rotoscoping” tool to edit out the green-screen background and make a talking rock more believable. It shortened
into hours what might have otherwise taken days of video-editing.
What is also noticeable is more dramatic conflicts between creators and those running AI platforms. This
year is likely to bring floods of lawsuits (诉讼) from authors, musicians and actors about how their works have
been used to train AI systems without permission or payment. Perhaps they can agree on some sort of licensing
arrangement, in which AI companies start paying copyright-holders.
It will probably be a few years before a full-length film is produced entirely by AI, but it is just a matter of
time.
8.What can we learn about the film Here?
A.It relates a story about youth. B.The theme of the film is reunion.
C.AI tools are employed in the film. D.It is adapted from Forrest Gump.
9.What does David think of AI’s application in film making?
A.Available. B.Impressive. C.Representative. D.Transformative.
10.Why does the author mention the film Everything Everywhere All at Once?
A.To show the high efficiency of AI tools.
B.To demonstrate the influence of the film.
C.To analyse a novel way of video-editing.
D.To praise the hard work behind the scenes.11.What is the article mainly about?
A.Conflicts between man and machine. B.AI’s huge effects on film production.
C.Drawbacks of dependence on AI tools. D.Hot debate on the use of technology.

(2024·黑龙江大庆·模拟预测)In the beginning, there was nothing. The vastness of an unborn galaxy was
marked by the absence of sound, light and substance. Empty music stood on an empty stage. Then the universe
began to form when colors and shapes began to dance across what we would soon come to call the sky, the stars
and the planets. Sounds of an orchestra began to play, colorful and clean.
Gustay Holst’s “The Planets, Op. 32”, to put simply, is a magical piece of music. Written between 1914 and
1916, the suite has built a strong legacy. As explained by conductor Peter Bay, Holst found inspiration from a topic
that has twisted the human mind for centuries. It cannot be argued how deeply our understanding of the planets has
shaped our aesthetics and culture — and Holst takes full creative liberty with this insight.
Each movement proved spectacular. “Clouds” combines a solemn tone with that of peaceful permanence,
while “Festivals” follows with blooming joy and loud confidence. “Sirens” features the chorus, with their
fascinating calls over the ebb and flow (起伏) of the orchestra itself. Different sections make for an impressive
playing and listening experience.
The main event of the evening, to no surprise, proved an excellent journey across the planets that we find so
familiar, bringing each to life with persistence and passion. In a world so focused on the digital, it is often easy to
forget the power of live performance, particularly that of orchestral music. Yet, the richness and energy that flowed
throughout the hall again proved the power of this art form and how fascinating collective sound can be.
12.What does the author describe at the beginning of the text?
A.The setting of the stage. B.The origin of the galaxy.
C.The formation of the universe. D.The technique of the orchestra.
13.How does the author develop the writing in paragraph 3?
A.By listing examples. B.By analyzing models.
C.By comparing theories. D.By presenting arguments.
14.Why does the author mention the digital in the last paragraph?
A.To praise its integration with music. B.To reveal the appeal of the live show.
C.To show the importance of technology. D.To emphasize its harm to concentration.
15.What can be the suitable title for the text?
A.A Musical Journey across the Galaxy. B.A Magical Exploration of the Universe.
C.A Powerful Piece of Music on the Planets. D.A Creative Musician with Space Inspiration.

(2024·黑龙江哈尔滨·模拟预测)We try to escape from the hurt and pain by pretending it doesn’t exist,
but although we can try this as we want, in the end, we can’t hide from ourselves. 16 The items listed
below are four ways you can open your heart more fully and completely.
Breathe into pain
Whenever a painful situation arises in your life, try to embrace it instead of running away or trying to mask
the hurt. 17 When we run away from sadness that’s unfolding in our lives, it will get stronger and more
real.
Ask your heart what it wants
We’re often confused at the next step to take, making pros and cons lists until our eyes bleed and our brains are
sore. Instead of always taking this approach, what if we take a few deep breaths then ask, “Heart, what decision
should I make here? What action feels the most right?” 18
Accept your shadow
Many of us who are on the personal development path get caught up in embracing characteristics we want to
have, like happiness, compassion, love, and passion. In this process we end up losing parts of ourselves that make
us whole. Try asking yourself a question: 19 Once you’re a little clearer about what exactly you’ve been
hiding from yourself, it will get easier to shine your light on it.
Get outside of yourself
After you’ve explored the depths of yourself, you come away with a new understanding. Now, it’s time to
share that — not through telling others, but through being with others. Lose yourself in the beauty of others; see
what they can teach you about yourself.
20 Take one at a time, determine which works best for you, and see what you can discover.
A.What else can I do to improve myself?B.Is there anything I’m hiding from myself?
C.Trying to escape is a good way to protect ourselves.
D.See what comes up, then engage and evaluate the outcome.
E.When sadness strikes, take a deep breath and lean into it.
F.Remember, there’s no need to do every one of these at the same time.
G.We need to learn to open our hearts to the potentials of life and let the world soften us.
【答案】16.G 17.E 18.D 19.B 20.F

best for you, and see what you can discover. (一次采取一种方法,决定哪一个最适合你,看看你能发现什
么。)”可知,提醒读者一次采取一种方法,选择最适合自己的,由此可知,此空处应是对读者的提醒,F
选项“Remember, there’s no need to do every one of these at the same time. (记住,没有必要同时做所有这些事
情。)”对本文进行总结,且“没必要做所有这些事情”与空后 “一次采取一种方法” 的内容一致,符合
语境。故选F项。

(2024·湖北襄阳·三模)About a month ago I noticed something really amazing, which I must call a
garden miracle. It so happened that when I 21 the double doors of a small storage area in the back of my
house where I 22 my garden supplies during the long, severe New England winter. I found, in one of the
dirt-filled pots, a living plant, topped with two of the most unlikely pink 23 you’ve ever seen.
How was this 24 ? The unheated space had been closed all winter, and it was still cold outside.
Once I caught my breath, I looked around and discovered something approaching a reasonable 25 —
there was a small glass window at the top of the double doors, and it was possible that a ray of sun fell 26
on that pot, giving the plant just enough light and warmth to enable it to grow in its own personal greenhouse.
I can’t help feeling 27 at the lessons this wonderful plant has to teach.
For one thing. I am moved by the coincidence of the whole thing. If I had 28 my pot six inches to
the left or right of that spot, the plant might not have gotten that 29 ray of light. If I had 30
the roots of the plant in late fall, there would have been nothing but dirt in that pot.
But there’s something else that 31 me about this — just how little right and 32 it
took for this plant to grow and flower. I’m not 33 we should be mean with love and kindness we34 to others and ourselves. But isn’t it comforting to think that just a touch of 35 can brighten a
day, a place, a life?
When it comes to positivity, a little goes a long way. Just ask my title miracle plant.

第二节 (满分25分)
(2024·广东·二模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In the town of Willowbrook, young Sarah was in a state of great excitement. Her school was putting on its
annual play, and she had been offered a principal role. The school hall had been abuzz for weeks with rehearsals,
prop (道具) preparations, and the students practicing their lines. Sarah had spent countless hours rehearsing,
wanting to get every word and movement absolutely right.
However, underlying her anticipation was a growing sadness. Sarah’s dad, Mr Thompson, worked as an
engineer in a big city, and his job often kept him away from home for a long time, which meant he frequently
missed out on most of the special moments in Sarah’s life. This play seemed to be another addition to that growing
list. He had a vital business meeting on the same day, and Sarah, although understanding, couldn’t help feeling
disappointed. Her classmates talked excitedly about their families coming to watch, increasing her sense of loss.
It was bright and sunny on the day of the play. The school’s hall was noisy with students. Students in
costumes rushed about, teachers gave last-minute instructions, and the air was thick with anticipation. Sarah peeped
out from behind the curtains and saw the hall filling up with eager parents, siblings, and friends. Every seat was
taken, except one — her dad’s.
The play started on time with Sarah and her classmates’ performance being the first. The actors delivered
their lines with passion and the audience responded with laughter and applause at all the right moments. Sarah
played her part with a mix of excitement and longing, wishing her dad could see her shine.
Halfway through, the host called for a surprise guest to enter. He described him as a “mysterious stranger”
whose brief appearance would provide a turning point in the plot. As the lights dimmed slightly and suspenseful
music played, a tall figure stepped onto the stage.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在相应位置作答。Sarah’s heart jumped faster.

【答案】参考范文
Sarah’s heart jumped faster. The “mysterious stranger” was none other than her dad! The audience erupted in
whispers and applause. Mr Thompson, looking slightly out of place but beaming, played his part perfectly. At a
loss, Sarah struggled to stay calm, but a supportive nod from her dad helped her regain her calm. Their unexpected
on-stage collaboration was brief but filled with genuine emotion, making it the most memorable part of the play.
When the final scene concluded and the curtains drew to a close, applause thundered through the hall. Sarah,
with tears in her eyes, rushed to hug her dad. “You made it,” she whispered. “I wouldn’t miss it,” he replied, his
eyes shining with pride. After the play, parents and students approached Sarah, not just to congratulate her, but also
to share how moved they were by Mr Thompson’s unexpected appearance. That evening in Willow brook, the
community didn’t just witness a school play; they saw a moving plot between a father and a daughter. Long after
the play was forgotten, residents would recall the heartwarming twist that made the play truly unforgettable.
