1.when 和while都可引导时间状语从句，通常情况下可互换。
2.以下情况不可互换
①when 引导的时间状语从句既可指时间点，也可指时间段；while引导的时间状语从句只指时间段；
②含有when引导的时间状语从句的主从复合句中主从句的动作可以是同时发生，也可以是先后发生；含
有
while引导的时间状语从句的主从复合句则强调主从句动作同时发生，或主句的动作在从句的动作发生过程
中发生；
③含when引导的时间状语从句的主从复合句中，主句用过去进行时，从句用一般过去时；含while 引导
的时间状语从句的主从复合句中，主从句表示的动作可同时发生，且时态都用过去进行时。
