Florida, caught in a crab trap. The ropes from the trap cut off the blood circulation to her tail. So she lost her tail,”
Katrina caught her breath. “She’s just like me. She’s just like me.” “But she struggled to survive. Now she wears a
prosthetic tail part of the day to help her swim like a dolphin’s supposed to swim.” the staff continued, “Every day,
Winter shows us anything is possible if we believe.”
Katrina felt her heartstring was touched. She waved at Winter. Looking at Katrina, Winter raised her flipper
(鳍), came to her and lifted her head. “She’s swimming right into my arms,” Katrina said tearfully. They made eye
contact. She seemed to be speaking to Katrina: We’re the same.
Back home, all Katrina talked about was Winter. For two weeks, she cried and begged her mother to take her
back to Clearwater.
Unfortunately, another blow hit Katrina. She fell on the hardwood floor at home and broke her other leg.
Katrina was in constant leg nerve pain. After a through examination, the doctor explained bad news that she would
need another surgery on her leg. Years of a living hell came back to her.
She started fearing surgery again and refused to take any.

It all happened in an instant, as most accidents do. A car took a left turning without signaling and a school bus
crashed into it heavily. A few cars behind the school bus hit the bus as they could not stop in time and soon it
became a pile-up. The car was damaged badly while the school bus also had some damage. And the already
crowded road became more jammed with vehicles, which came to a mess. We wanted to help the victims. My sister
drove to a stop at the roadside not too far from the accident spot.
The scene that greeted us was terrible. I first rushed to the car. The driver, a lady, lay trapped behind the wheel,
unable to move. Three schoolchildren were in the back seat, their faces white with fear. Two of them were seriously
hurt and bleeding from the head and hands. They were conscious although too weak and frightened to realize what
had happened. We called an ambulance and while waiting, we tried as much as possible to help the victims. As a
result of our joint efforts, the driver and the children were moved to safety and taken care of.

But nothing could make Lin forget the horror he had felt in that black cloud of bats. “I can’t go in there,” he
told Grandfather now.
“OK,” Grandfather said. As he started into the cave, he called over his shoulder, “I’ll be out in no time.” Lin
parked the cart and glanced at the shovel and flashlight inside it. His shovel and flashlight. He had used them
before. Now they only reminded him of his fear.
Lin turned his back on the cart and walked down to the river. Grandfather would call when he was finished.
Until then, Lin would put as much distance as possible between himself and the cave.
Lin watched two little birds splashing about at the edge of the river. He enjoyed the peaceful view over the
vast river surface. Then Lin realized that Grandfather’s “no time” had turned into a long time.
Lin hurried up the hill toward the cave. The cart was still there. Grandfather was still inside. Something had
gone wrong.

rush past him. The wave was huge, and Alex felt a rush of excitement as he rode it towards the shore.
But as he approached the shore, he noticed something unusual. The water was moving violently, and he could
hear a strange noise coming from beneath him. Suddenly, the wave crashed down on him, and he was thrown from
his board. He hit the water hard and was pulled under by the current.
Alex struggled to reach the surface but found himself trapped in a powerful current. The current was pulling
him out to sea, and he could feel himself getting further and further away from the shore. Panic set in, and he began
to fear for his life.

After eating our lunches, many of us wanted to make the climb to an area above it. We knew others had done
so on previous trips. A few guys went first to make sure they were on the right path. But after they left, my group of
seven decided to go ahead without waiting for them to return. I suspected we were going the wrong way, but I kept
silent, figuring that the others knew better. We went along the base of the hill until we reached the climb. It stopped
me in my tracks.
The climb rose steeply above us. Along the right edge, the jungle hugged the rocks; passage through its trees
seemed unlikely to be achieved. The majority of my view was filled with rocks. Peering back down toward the
river, I saw a steep slope of rocks all the way to the water. All I could think about was how far it would be to fall.

offer his arm for support.
I climbed down, one skate at a time and my leg shook slightly when both feet landed on the ice.
“Can I hang onto you for the first few minutes?” I asked my son nervously. I took baby steps but I had
forgotten how to glide (滑行). Eager to see how far I could go, I let go of my son’s arm.
With great efforts, I began to do slow laps, inching ahead with my skates and staying close to the rink boards.
I avoided falling on my first attempt but as I walked home silently with my son, I wondered whether I should
quit. Fear had held me back and I hadn’t given it my all.
“You used to skate so well, what happened?” asked my son.
“Life got in the way.”

hall to determine who would take the child into their home and bring her up.
A teacher said she would like to raise the child. She pointed out that she could ensure her a good education. A
farmer offered her an upbringing on his farm. He pointed out that living on a farm was healthy and satisfying.
Others spoke, giving their reasons why it was to the child’s advantage to live with them.
Finally, the town’s richest resident rose and said, ”I can give this child all the advantages that you have
mentioned here, plus money and everything that money can buy.“
Throughout all this, the child remained silent, her eyes on the floor. It seemed that nothing could stir her from
grief and loss of all those loved ones. ”Does anyone else want to speak?“ asked the meeting chairman.

me. I expected them to stop, but they didn’t. As they got closer, I could see their teeth looked sharp, and that they
looked angry. There was nowhere for me to run. I tried to keep calm, but my heart was racing. I’d never been bitten

when a sudden wind picked up from the north. The temperature dropped and it began to snow. Allen knew of a wayto increase the temperature inside the tent. He dragged a log from the woods, wrapped aluminum foil (铝箔) around
the log and then placed it near the campfire. The heat from the fire reflected into the tent. Soon the tent was warm
again and thoughts of lake fish filled my dreams.
I was still dreaming when Allen woke me up in a panic. Our tent was on fire! The snow had stopped during the
night, but the wind had fanned the flames of the fire towards our tent. Frightened by the flames, I ran out of the tent
immediately. The tent collapsed with Allen inside. Without any hesitation, I reached into the burning tent, grabbed
him, and dragged him to the icy lake. We checked each other to make sure neither of us was hurt.
