①My dad earned money to pay family expenses from age 14.
②I didn’t really understand his world.
③ I thought that I would surpass anything he had accomplished after high school gradua-
tion.
④I planned to do with the pay as I wished.
⑤I wasn’t interested more work.
⑥I understood immediately what my parents were worried about.
⑦ the truck
回应:
①He exerted all his energies to support the family without any bitter words.
② I now understand all the efforts my dad put into the family.
③I would never surpass what my dad did for the family due to my little responsibility
tak- en for the household.
④ I decided to contribute all my money to mend the truck instead of buying a new
basket- ball.
⑤That night, before I went to bed, I decided to continue my work if I could because I
learned the true meaning of growing up.
⑥⑦My parents had intended to fix the bro- ken truck but couldn’t get enough money to
afford it.
On the way home full of excitement, I thought about how to make use of the
“huge”sum of money.“I need a new football in the future.”I whispered to myself. Approaching my
house, I noticed my dad and mom standing beside the old truck of my family, looking sad.
On the way home full of excitement, I thought about how to make use of the
“huge”sum of money. Approaching my house, I noticed my dad and mom standing beside the old
truck of my family, looking sad.“I need a new football in the future.”
I knew we had gotten hopelessly lost. After
seemingly ages, there came a loud cry of my dad. As a quick response, I shouted in a
loud voice.“Dad, I’m here!”Tracing my voice, Dad finally found me and we got
reunited.
On the way home full of excitement, I thought about
how to make use of the“huge” sum of money. Approaching my house, I noticed my
dad and mom standing beside the old truck of my family, looking sad. That night, before
I went to bed, I decided to continue my work if I could because I learned the true
From age 14, my dad earned and used it to pay family
expenses. I didn’t really understand his world either. At home, my dad said, “A job’s a big step to
growing up. I’m glad you will be contributing to the household. ”My dad’s words made me
realize that my earnings might not be mine to do with as I wished. My labors lasted about two
weeks, and the farmer said there might be more work, but I wasn’t interested. I decided it was not
fair that I had to contribute my money.
I understood immediately what my parents were worried about. My parents had intended to
buy a new truck but couldn’t get enough money to afford it. Suddenly, I realized what I should do
my part in the family responsibilities. Hold- ing the money, I said,“Dad, here is what I got for my
work. I hope it would help. ”That night, before I went to bed, I decided to continue my work if I
could because I learned the true mean- ing of growing up.
I radioed the camp manager for help. He told me a helicopter
was on its way. ”。
的,具有不可替代性。结局若设置巧妙则 对作品的内容、主旨都具有画龙典型句式之用;
And just when all hope seemed lost, anxious
shouts were heard in the distance with torches coming into sight.
设置为“Finally, Uncle Paul found us and we were back, safe and sound. ”。
All of us were hard at work at the kitchen
table, with my mom filming the annual event”这一句,刻画了节日来临之时家庭内部成
“Tom! ”she cried. “Help!”(2016
If only she had not left her mobile phone in that bag with Tom. (2016
Mac’s heart jumped. (2017
I had an interesting childhood. It was filled with surprises and amusements, all because of my
mother---loving, sweet, yet absent-minded and forgetful.(2017年11月,浙江卷)[开心/幸福]
“I'm going to miss you so much, Poppy, "said the tall, thin teenager. He bent down to hug his
old friend goodbye. He stood up, hugged his parents, and smiled, trying not to let his emotions(情
绪)get the better of him.(2020年1月,浙江卷)[依依不舍]
“I wish you could see him,” she said to her own children, John, Harry, and Clara. “He is such
a help to his mother. He wants very much to earn some money, but I don't see what he can
It was tiring work, but I looked forward to the pay, even though I wasn't sure how
much it would amount to.(2021年6月,浙江卷)[坚定决心]
In the pumpkin field, I compete with my three brothers and
sisters”、第二段中的“This year, it was hard to tell whether my prize or the one chosen
by my 14-year-old broher, Jason, was the winner”以及第四段中的“...with Jason helping
to support the weight, I bent back over the table to give it somewhere to rest”这三处叙
根据文章第一段最后一句中的“...as the eldest child I have an advantage”,我们可
voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed space”却将这种优越感与自信完全吞没
结合续写第一段中的“...it felt much longer”
Crane climbed into the last remaining lifeboat. Three men got into the boat with him. They
were the ship’s captain, the cook and a sailor named Billie. For three days, the men steered the
small boat through high waves along the coast of Florida. At last, they saw land.
A long stretch of coast lay before the eyes of the men. Slowly, the land rose up out of the
mountainous sea. The men could see a small house against the sky. To the south, they could see a
lighthouse. Tide, wind and waves were pushing the lifeboat northward. The men thought someone
on land would have seen the boat by now.
The men waited and waited but nothing happened.
The waves grew stronger. They seemed always just about to break and roll over the little
boat. The coast was still far away. The sailor said: “Boys, the boat won’t live three minutes more,
and we’re too far out to swim. Shall I take her to sea again, captain?”
“Yes! Go ahead!” said the captain. The sailor turned the boat and took her safely out to sea
again.
“It’s funny those life-saving people haven’t seen us,” one of the men said.
“Maybe they think we’re out here for sport! Maybe they think we’re fishing. Maybe they
think we’re fools.”
The coast was still far away. The sun began to go down. It got dark and cold. Billie rowed,
and then Crane took his turn. They rowed and rowed through the long night. The land had
disappeared but they could hear the low sound of the waves hitting the shore. This was surely a
quiet night.
A night on the sea in an open boat is a long night. The sailor continued to row until his head
fell forward and sleep overpowered him. Then he asked Crane to row for a while. They exchanged
places so the sailor could sleep in the bottom of the boat with the cook and the captain.
Crane thought that he was the one man afloat on all the oceans in the world. The wind had a
sad voice as it came over the waves.

Due to my unhealthy eating habits, I became fatter and fatter after college. My good friend
Anoush was a running enthusiast. So he advised me to lose weight by running. I didn’t agree at

Seven years later, I got more serious about running. And I dreamed to participate in Boston
Marathon. Anoush encouraged me to realize my dream. He also said he enjoyed running too and
wanted to attend the same marathon with me. Every day we spared our time to practise hard and
did about 2 marathons a year, during which time Anoush gave me much professional guidance and
encouragement. And then one day, both of us qualified for the 2017 Boston Marathon. We were
excited but unfortunately, several weeks before the marathon, we had a serious quarrel. Even I
swore never to talk with him in the future.
The day came. Anoush and I stood at the starting line. He said, “Good luck! You will
certainly finish the marathon.” Hearing his words, I looked at him, saying, “It’s none of yourbusiness.”
Then we started running. I had strong mental confidence by using positive self-talk when
running distances, which has helped me finish 18 marathons. Soon, I passed Anoush.
But I struggled in the heat starting at mile 16. I felt most of my oxygen went to the muscle
in my legs and less in my brain, which made me feel a bit lightheaded and fuzzy I
continually encouraged myself. “Just get to the finish, run bold, and you will win,” all phrases that
I say to myself didn’t work any more.
Gradually I felt out of breath and had to slow down my pace. As I ran down the famous last
stretch of the Boston Marathon on Boylston Street, I fell down on the ground with my legs moving
like jello (果冻).

Edward and Stephen were both eighteen years old. They were so together in friendship that
they felt themselves to be brothers. They had known each other since childhood, growing up in thesame block in Liverpool.
Edward was fair and lean, while Stephen was dark and short. Edward’s brown hair was
always falling over his eyes, while Stephen wore his black hair in a natural style.
Each youngster had a dream of someday becoming champion of the world. Whenever they
had time, the boys worked out at the Fencing (击剑) Club. Early morning sunrises would find
them running along the Mersey River, wrapped in sweatshirts, with short towels around their
necks.
Edward and Stephen studied hard and dreamt positively. Between them, they had a
notebook filled with torn tickets of every fencing match they had ever attended. They each had
taken part in many elimination bouts (淘汰赛) and had won many gold medals. The difference
was in their style.
As fencers, Edward’s lean form and long reach made him better in attack, while Stephen’s
short and muscular frame made him speed y in movement. Whenever they had met in the piste (击
剑台), it had always been intense and competitive.
After a series of elimination bouts, they were informed that they were to meet each other in
the finals next month —the winner to represent the Club in the Championship Tournament.
Fencing was like any other profession. The two boys knew friendship had nothing to do
with it. But how would the competition affect their relationship? Everyday they continued to run
together along the Mersey River. However, while joking with each other, they both sensed an
invisible wall rising between them.
The day before the finals, they met as usual for their daily workout. After a mile or so,
Stephen stopped.

Jameson Lobb, a 24-year-old investment banker from Toronto, was just one week into his
new job on Wall Street. Over the past month, he’d been settling in to the New York City apartment
he was sharing with his friend, an artificial intelligence engineer named Raphael Jafri.
Now, on Oct.4, the two were taking a quick lunchtime workout on Pier (码头) 15,
overlooking the East River, when Lobb froze. “Somebody’s in the water,” he said. Before Jafri
could respond, Lobb climbed over the rail at the edge of the pier and jumped into the cold,
polluted water without taking the time to remove his shoes. What Lobb had heard was an alarming
shout from Pier 16, nearly 50 yards away, “Help! He’s in the water!” And what he’d seen was a
person floating (漂浮), motionless.
Approaching the victim, Lobb saw that it was a middle-aged man. He was big, around 200
pounds, respectably dressed and sinking fast. He was 3 feet below the surface by the time Lobb
reached him. The rescuer dived, felt around, grasped the man and kicked upward until they both
resurfaced.
Jafri was in water now. The two friends used all their strength to float the man on his back,
even as the water threatened to overtake them. As Jafri put his arms around the man’s shoulders
and Lobb supported him, the pair struggled back to Pier 15. Their lungs cried out for air and their
muscles burned as they pushed and pulled the immobile figure through the freezing and fast-
moving water.
The man was breathing shallowly, his face pale. When at last they reached Pier 15, theyfaced a new uncertainty. How to get out? The pier’s decking (甲板) stood an unreachable 10 feet
above their heads. It is unlikely for them to climb onto the pier.
Suddenly the man made a slight move, struggling confusedly.

Scanning the court, Luis pretended to pass the ball to another teammate but finally gave it
to Nicholas. As Luis expected, Nicholas kicked hard and… GOAL! Just then, Devon walked up
angrily. “What were you DOING there, Luis?!” he yelled. Luis rolled his eyes.
Devon started playing soccer with them weeks ago. He was nice when he felt like things in
the game had gone his way. Otherwise, he would lose temper.
“Playing soccer.” Luis shrugged. “Why didn’t you pass to me? I was closer to the goal than
Nicholas.” Devon yelled again.
As the group walked in, Devon continued. Luis ignored him to avoid arguing. Nicholas
approached and began complaining about Devon’s yelling and disrespect. “What can you do about
that?” Luis asked. Nicolas said he wanted to organize a new team without Devon. Luis was upsetto hear that. Nicholas said, “It’s more fun before he started playing with us. I’ve told the other
teammates. They agreed.”
Reaching home, Luis dragged his feet into his bedroom, which confused his mom. “What’s
wrong?” She asked. Then, Luis told what happened to her. “Have any of you tried talking to
Devon about this?” She asked. “I don’t know.” Luis scratched his head.
“Maybe a boundary could help. When playing soccer, how do you know whether someone
is at the right position on the court? What’s that line called?” Mom reminded. “A boundary.” Luis
murmured.
“Tell Devon whether he’s crossing a line with how he talks.” She suggested. Luis took the
advice and decided to have a try.
The next day at school, Luis found Devon and told him all the teammates liked playing
soccer with him but they didn’t like being yelled at by him.
“I don’t yell at people.” Devon immediately interrupted.
“You yelled at me the other day because I didn’t pass to you,” Luis reminded calmly. “And
you are yelling now. If you keep yelling at your teammate, we won’t play with you anymore.”
Devon was too embarrassed to speak. “Being yelled at isn’t fun but playing soccer is
supposed to be fun.” Luis said, patting Devon’s shoulder gently.
Later, during the training, Luis met Nicholas and told him what he’d told Devon.

It was 40 years ago. One day, Emma came back to their apartment from work and realized
that her husband, David, was extremely ill. He was throwing up and slurring (发音不清) his
words. Immediately, Emma grabbed her purse and took him by taxi to the nearest hospital, on the
Lower East Side of New York City. The minutes slowly passed as they waited to see a doctor.
They sat there for a couple of hours, and it was pretty clear that nobody was going to pay
attention to David. So they rushed to a second hospital, where they were also ignored. Emma
knew something was very wrong with David, so they went to a third hospital. As she told the
receptionist what was happening, Emma sensed the person wasn’t going to treat their case with

Emma was on the edge of a breakdown. After three failed attempts to get help, she had
reached her limit. She started to shout in the lobby (大厅). That’s when her unsung hero appeared.
That person was a young man with dark hair and a white physician’s coat. He came to
Emma and said, “How can I help you? What’s going on here?” Emma explained what was
happening to David, and that she was afraid it was serious.
The young man said, “You know, I just got done with my neurological residency (神经系统

When John was in Grade 9, his class went on a canoeing (划独木舟) trip. Canoeing is a
water sport practiced in a light narrow boat with a paddle. It can be very dangerous, especially if
the river has rapids, a fast-flowing part of a river. Since it requires strength, balance and a lot of
skills, all the students are trained hard.
To qualify for the trip, the whole class had to be able to swim. However, John had a
problem. He weighed over 180 pounds. He had never learned to swim before, so he took
swimming lessons and worked hard for many weeks. He eventually graduated with a certificate
saying that he could swim.
John’s classmates were all glad to have him along—all except one person, Nicky. She
didn’t like him. In fact, she seemed not to like many. She was on the school water polo team. Shewas a swimming star and extremely proud of herself too.
The trip went well and everyone enjoyed the day. That is, until the end of the trip when they
were heading down some rapids. Nicky had been warned over and over to wear her life jacket, but
she did not listen to others.
When they arrived at a steep valley, the speed of the water picked up. They entered some
dangerous rapids. All of a sudden, their canoes turned over. They were all thrown into the water—
all except John! He was heavy enough and somehow was not thrown into the water.
They all swam back to the canoe where John quickly pulled them in. Then, they saw
Nicky’s life jacket floating on the water. She was not wearing it when the accident happened.
When they spotted her floating on the water, she was barely conscious. She was in serious danger.
It seemed like she had hit her head on a rock. As they were approaching her, their canoes broke
loose from the tree branches they were stuck to and sent them farther away from Nicky. Everyone
in the canoes looked in horror as the current dragged Nicky away from them.

The six-year-old Lucy was the only child of her parents and they spoilt her totally. One day
Lucy’s mother, Nitya Mehta, suddenly noticed that her daughter was not ready to share anything
with her friends and that most children did not like to play with her daughter. Would Lucy be able
to make good friends and learn to share things with them? She would soon know, for Lucy was
now admitted to Class I in a proper school.
Everyone in her class admitted that Lucy was very intelligent. But she had no friends until
Rita joined her class. New to the city and too shy to make any friends, she did not mind being
taken under Lucy’s wing. At least she had someone to play with.
One day, the teacher scolded Rita for doing her sums without thinking. The little girl cried
because the whole class had laughed at her. The teacher had patiently explained how to do the
sums, but Rita was just not able to understand. Lucy told her mother about Rita crying in class.
“Why don’t you try to explain to her simply,” asked her mother, “She likes you very much and if
you teach her, she will understand.”
“Mummy, I don’t have time to waste. What can I do if she is so silly?” said Lucy. Then she
decided to tell Lucy a story of an ant and a dove. One day an ant fell into a stream. A dove picked
a leaf and let it fall into the stream close to the ant. The ant climbed onto it. A little later, a
birdcatcher came to throw a net over the unsuspecting dove. The ant knew what he was planning
and stung him in the foot. The birdcatcher yelled out in pain and the noise made the dove fly away.
“Did you understand the story, Lucy?” asked her mother, “It means that if you do a good
turn, you will only get good in return.” To this Lucy said, “What a silly story, mummy. It is for
little children, and I have grown big.” Having no other choices, Lucy’s mother decided to act
tough.
“If not, you can’t watch cartoons for a week,” said Lucy’s mother.

No amount of begging (乞求) would change my father’s mind about getting a pet. No
matter how desperately I begged, his answer was "No! " Finally, I accepted that he was not going
to change his mind. I did the only thing that I could. I spent as much time as possible around other
people’s pets and I often spent time at a place called Best Friends, an animal shelter near my
house. Animals ended up there when their owners could no longer care for them.
Whenever I visited the shelter (收容所), I dreamed about taking one of the dogs home with
me. One day after school, I stopped off at Best Friends like I usually did. Suddenly, I saw a large,
shaggy, yellow dog standing in the corner, and when he saw me, he wagged his tail and began
whining (哀鸣).
“That’s Fenway,” Renee, the woman at the desk, said. “He whines continuously. His owners
brought him here when they moved overseas.”
“He must be lonely,” I suggested.
“Your parents won’t let you have a dog?” Renee asked. I didn’t answer, but my look must
have said everything, because then she said, “That’s too bad. These dogs need good homes and
good people to take care of them.” On my way home, I had an idea to assist shelter pets like
Fenway. I wrote a touching story as if Fenway were writing it. I told all about his family and why
he had no home, shedding light on (解释) his longing for a loving family. With the shelter
director’s approval, I proposed sharing more stories in newspapers and online to attract potentialadopters.
The next weekend, the shelter was flooded with families who wanted pets. They were all
drawn by the heartfelt stories of animals like Fenway. Fenway’s tail wagged so fast that I was
afraid it might fall off. I stood with Fenway as people admired him. His playful nature and hopeful

“Sai Baba! Sai Baba! Hahahaha!” Rani’s cheeks burned with shame and tears welled up in

balls stuck in it. “Look, they even shot paper balls at my hair.”
Papa went up to Rani, hugging her tightly in his arms. “Listen! Those boys are bullies. They
did so only to get an emotional response from you. What you need to do is either ignore them or

Rani nodded uncertainly, remembering the hours, days and weeks she had spent trying to

A Birthday Surprise
I stood at the kitchen window watching Papa as he sat in the old, wooden lawn chair staring
out at the lake. Ralph, his old black dog, lay on the ground at his side. Papa’s hand absently
stroked (抚摩) the head of his old companion as they dreamed the dreams of old men and old dogs
in the evening sun. “He does this day after day?” I asked Mama.
She nodded, sadness filling her eyes. “I don’t know what to do for him. There is a strong
desire in his eyes that I can’t satisfy -a desire for the past. The past can’t be brought back to the
present. Once days are gone, they are gone forever,” Mama sighed.
“I’m going down to talk to him,” I said.
I called out to Papa and handed him a cup of coffee. “What are you and Ralph thinking
about all these hours you spend out here?” I asked,
“We’re not thinking,” he said softly. “We’re wishing.” I sat on the grass beside his chair.“Wishing for what?” “For the impossible, I suppose,” he sighed. “You always told me that nothing
was impossible if you wanted it badly enough and were willing to work hard for it,” I reminded
him.
He laughed softly, but there was no amusement in the sound. “But Ralph and I have come
to learn that when you reach our age, some things are actually impossible.” “Maybe I can help
you. What do you want so badly?” I asked.
Papa grinned (咧嘴大笑), and his eyes shone brightly at the thought of his dream becoming
a reality. “Ralph and I want to fix up the old boat and go out on the lake again. We used to spend
all day out on the lake, fishing, drinking beer and eating sandwiches,” Papa said.
Yes, I remember. When I was young, Papa and Ralph often enjoyed themselves on the lake
on weekends. They’d start for home when the sun went down, totally satisfied with themselves
and with life. Now, Papa was almost eighty-five years old and had a heart condition, so Mama was
horrified by the idea of him going out on the lake again at first. But eventually I managed to

Though traveling is not a big deal for me today, before my trip to the mountains, I used to
be a homebody. I had friends to hang out with, several hobbies, and I felt completely comfortable
spending weeks or even months in my hometown — or sometimes even on my block — without
going anywhere. All my demands of novelty were satisfied by the Discovery and National
Geographic channels, and I seriously thought there was no difference between seeing something
on the TV and with one’s own eyes.
The situation changed when one day David, my best friend who always has a couple of
colorful bugs in his head (or, in other words, was always carrying out several crazy plans at once),
walked into my room and declared his disgust (厌恶) for civilization. I will not describe how he
managed to persuade me to join him on his journey to the Rocky Mountains; all I will say is that
we departed in five days. This was my first time in the mountains, so I was turning my head in all
directions. Unfortunately, the weather was foggy most of the time, and the higher we got into the
mountains, the worse the visibility was.
Even despite this fact, I still enjoyed the hike — I felt like I was Bear Grylls, whose show I
used to watch with excitement: in the wild, with food and water in my backpack, carrying a
flashlight and a knife. On the first day, we were making our way along the foothills; but the next
day, we started to climb on one of the peaks. Though it was not that steep and high, I was still
excited. I regularly hastened, and because of that, I ran out of energy long before we got to the top;
David, on the other hand, was more well-paced.
When we finally got to the top, nothing had changed. The same fog was covering the
surroundings, and even though I was filled with positive emotions, I felt disappointed, because I
counted on seeing the view from above and perhaps being able to take some photos.

not worry a lot since this was very common in kids.
It was an unexpected holiday announced by the school of Ridoy and he had a five-day
holiday. For the first two days, he spent a good time with his mother. She took him for outings.
They went to the beach and amusement parks, and had delicious dining. She cooked his favorite
foods and played with him. Three days were left and Ridoy’s mother wanted to clean the house,
which she intended to involve Ridoy in. To her surprise, he accepted without hesitation. With the
help of Ridoy, the house instantly became very tidy and the floor shone like a mirror. Everything
she asked him to do during the three days was done to perfection. Although she was astonished by
his behavior, a delicious sweetness well up in Ridoy’s mom’s heart.
While she was cooking the dinner meal on the fifth day, Ridoy gave her a piece of paper
written by him. Since his mom was busy cooking, she asked him to place the paper on the diningtable. After cooking the meals, she took the paper left by his son. The piece of paper contained the

This Friday brought a mix of emotions—both excitement and disappointment — all
because of a flyer from school. When I got home, Mum saw the flyer in my hand and asked,
“What’s this?”
“A flyer for a five-day art camp,” I explained. “But Emily can’t go.”
“Would you like to attend?”Mum asked. “You’ve always loved art.” Her words reminded
me of what Emily had said earlier: “Tessa, you’re the real artist. My brother thought the roses I
painted were rocket ships.” I sighed. Mum patted my back. She knew I had a hard time jumpinginto something with no familiar faces around. “Maybe next year.”
“Maybe,” I echoed. Then I told Mum I wanted to go outside to draw the Westons’ pine tree
She nodded with an encouraging smile.
As I walked into the bright sunshine, I couldn’t help but think about the art camp. I wished I
felt a little bit braver. Emily could make friends with a whole bus of kids in ten minutes, but my
stomach felt like a little boat tossed in a heavy storm when I was surrounded by strangers... By the
time I started drawing, I had made up my mind to forget about the art camp.
I began by drawing the pine tree’s strong and straight trunk, and then added the beautiful
branches, making sure the upper ones lifted gently towards the sun. Lost in my work, I jumped
when I heard Mr. Weston speak up, “You’ve done a great job showing the strength of that tree on
paper.”
“Thanks,” I smiled, glancing up.
As I drew the needles to the branches, Mr. Weston told me something I never knew about
pines: If you plant the root ball too deep, the tree dies. Their roots grow out, not down—to get
enough water and grow tall.
“You have a good eye, Tessa.”With these words, Mr. Weston nodded goodbye.
