Today, people care about their health much more than before and want to get a well-toned body shape, this is
because when we are in good shape, it makes us feel fit and healthy. We feel good about ourselves and feel much
more confident than before. When you want to tone up your body, just workouts will not do.You have to take care of
your overall health by eating proper food, doing the right kind of exercises and keeping yourself happy. The first thing that needs to be done is to reduce the intake(摄入) of calories(卡路里).The calories content (含
量) of each meal should not be higher than 400 calories.Ideally, one is well advised to have six meals in a day. There
should be a gap(间隔) of three hours between each meal.Fresh vegetables, fruits, egg white, fish, chicken breast are
some of the food that can provide you with the right nutrients(养分), at the same time will help you to get in shape.
Many people make the mistake of avoiding strength training when they are trying for weight loss. They think
that strength training will increase their body weight. However, this is not true.Be careful not to over exercise in
order to lose weight fast.Too much of exercise can cause injury to you.
Drinking 8-10 glasses of water can help in reducing fat.If you drink ice cold water, then it will burn out some
extra calories from your body. This is because when you are drinking cold water, your body needs to raise the
temperature of the water up to your body temperature. In this process, almost one calorie of fat gets burned from the
body.Drinking a glass of water before a meal will be helpful in this regard.
You can get a healthy body only if your mind is free from stress.Stress can also lead to other health problems
like high blood pressure, upset stomach, headaches, etc.For all these reasons, special efforts need to be taken to
relax your mind.

Pictures That Don't Last
“YEARS ago when I was at the Grand Canyon, I remember someone coming up to the canyon's edge, taking a
shot with their camera and then walking away, like ‘got it–done', barely even glancing at the magnificent (壮观的)
scene sprawling (展开) in front of them,” Linda Henkel, a scientist at Fairfield University, US told Live Science.
Henkel was surprised by how obsessed (着迷的) people are with taking pictures these days – before dinner,
during friends' birthday parties, on museum tours and so on.You know people just like that, don't you? They keep taking pictures because they think that it helps record the moment, but as Henkel's latest study has
just found out, this obsession may prevent their brains from remembering what actually happened, reported The
Guardian.
In her study, Henkel led a group of college students around a museum and asked them to simply observe 15
objects and to photograph 15 others. The next day the students' memory of the tour was tested, and the results
showed that they were less accurate in recognizing the objects and they remembered fewer details about them if
they photographed them.
“When people rely on technology to remember for them – counting on the camera to record the event and thus
not needing to attend to it fully themselves, it can have a negative effect on how well they remember their
experiences,” Henkel explained.
But there is also an exception: if students zoomed (缩放) in to photograph part of an object, their memory
actually improved, and those who focused the lens (镜头) on a specific area could even recall parts that weren't in
the frame.
So basically, this study is saying that constantly taking pictures can harm your memory. But shouldn't
reviewing pictures we have taken help wake up our memories? This is true, but only if we spend enough time doing
it.
“In order to remember, we have to access(接近)and interact with the photos, rather than just amassing
them,” Henkel told The Telegraph. However, previous research has shown that most people never take the time to
look over their digital pictures simply because there are too many of them and they aren't usually very organized on
their computers.
32. The author mentioned Henkel's trip to the Grand Canyon at the beginning to ______.
A. complain about some tourists' bad habits B. give suggestions on how to enjoy one's tour
C. describe the great view of the Grand Canyon D. point out people's obsession with taking pictures
33. Which of the following statements about Henkel's study is TRUE?
A. Reviewing pictures always helps people bring back memories.
B. Taking pictures in a museum tour helps students recognize objects better.
C. Pictures that focus on the details of objects are likely to improve people's memories.
D. People should spend more time studying real objects than taking pictures of them.
34. The underlined word “amassing” in the last paragraph probably means ______.
A. displaying B. collecting C. introducing D. remembering
35. What is the article mainly about?
A. How pictures remind us of our past.B. Some skills to learn for taking pictures.
C. How to deal with pictures after taking trips.
D. People's obsession with taking pictures and its influence.

How I Turned to Be Optimistic
I began to grow up that winter night when my parents told me that we might soon be leaving for America. We
were on the bus then.I was crying, and all the people on the bus were turning around to look at me.I remember I
could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio programs for school children to which I listened every
morning.
I do not remember myself crying for this reason again. In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying
goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving I thought about all the places I was going to see—the
strange and magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving was hardly in my
head then.
The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism, but the idea did not come to me at
once. For the first two years in New York, I was really lost—having to study in three schools as a result of family
moves.I did not quite know what I was or what I should be.Mother remarried, and things became even more
difficult for me.Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other.I was often sad, and saw no end
to “hard times”.
My responsibilities (责任) in the family increased a lot because I knew English better than everyone else at
home.I wrote letters, filled out forms, took my grandparents to the doctor, and even discussed telephone bills with
company representatives (代表).
From my experiences I have learned one important rule: almost all common troubles eventually (逐渐地) go
away! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! I believe that
my life will turn out all right, even though it will not be that easy.
