Today I tried cooking a simply dish myself. I like eating frying tomatoes with eggs, and I
thought it must to be easy to cook. My mom told me how to preparing it. First I cut the tomatoes
into pieces but put them aside. Next I broke the eggs into a bowl and beat them quickly with
chopstick. After that I poured oil into a pan and turned off the stove. I waited patiently unless the
oil was hot. Then I put the tomatoes and the beaten eggs into pan together. “Not that way,”
my mom tried to stop us but failed. She was right. It didn't turn out as I had wished.

Restaurants, schools, dentist offices are all keeping more windows open to let in more fresh
air. __1__ Now researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore have come up
with a device that's like noise-cancelling headphones—but for a building.
It works on the same principle, so it detects noise that's coming into the windows and then
cancels the noise. __2__ A microphone samples (抽样检验) incoming noise, and then
sends the speakers instructions on what sort of anti-noise(反噪音) to give out. The result is to
cancel out the incoming sound.
__3__ At the same time it allows air to keep flowing into and out of the window. The
device is being tested out—so it's still expensive. And it doesn't block out all sounds. It blocks
sound at frequencies from 300 to 1,000 Hz. __4__
The technology will probably come in handy in Singapore as this country already has a lot
of green buildings that use natural ventilation (通风设备). But the disadvantage is: when you
have lots of openings in the buildings, the noise comes in. __5__ The group of window
speakers could do the trick—especially if people prefer peace and quiet to a good view, which
people at home tend to do all night.
A.But this also lets in more noise.
B.The green buildings are energy-saving.
C.This includes the noise of freeways, trains and planes.
D.So you need some way to manage the increasing noise.
E. The headphones are designed for us to cover up our ears.
F.Compared with a closed window, the anti-noise device is almost as good.
G.The device looks like a group of small speakers and fits over an open window.

Young children across the globe enjoy playing games of hide and seek. For them, there's
something highly exciting about __1__ someone else's glance and making oneself unable to be
seen.
However, we all witness that preschool children are remarkably __2__ at hiding. They often
cover only their eyes with their hands, leaving the rest of their bodies __3__.
For a long time, this ineffective hiding method was __4__ as evidence that children are
hopelessly “egocentric” (自我中心的) creatures. But our __5__ research results in child
developmental psychology __6__ that idea.We brought young children aged 24 into our Minds in Development Lab at USC. Each __7__
sat down with an adult who covered her own eyes or __8__. We then asked the child if she could
__9__ or hear the adult. Surprisingly, children replied that they couldn't. The same __10__
happened when the adult covered her own mouth: __11__ children said that they couldn't __12__
to her.
A number of __13__ ruled out that the children misunderstood what they were being asked.
The results were clear: Our young subjects __14__ the questions and knew __15__ what was
asked of them. Their __16__ to the questions reflected their true __17__ that “I can see you only if
you can see me, too.” They simply __18__ mutual (相互的) recognition and regard. Our __19__
suggest when a child “hides” by putting a blanket over her head, it is not a result of egocentrism.
In fact, children consider this method __20__ when others use it.
