Ranking My College Life Essentials
Going to university, we will face choices about how to spend our time.In my view, the order should
be study, sleep, and socializing.
First, studying is our main task, so study comes first. Second, good health depends on getting
enough sleep. Only when we sleep well can we study better. Finally, socializing also matters. It helps us
make friends, but it belongs after the first two.
In short, a great university life comes from getting our priorities in the right order. By putting study
and sleep first while having some social activities, we set ourselves up for a truly rewarding university
journey.

Dear Kate,
It's a great idea to make a collection of our English essays. I'm writing to suggest adding some
illustrations to make it even more appealing.
Right pictures, paired with essays, can liven up the whole book and encourage more students to read
it. They will also help make complex ideas easier to grasp and deepen students' understanding of the
English essays. As for the drawings, I have solid drawing skills and can create unique pictures that fit
different essay styles and themes perfectly. Apart from that, I have plenty of free time to complete the
drawings, and I'd be glad to work closely with you.
I hope you'll consider the idea and let me help with the project. I can start anytime. Looking
forward to hearing from you.
Yours.

Dear Jenny,
I really like the idea of adding a new column to our English newspaper. After careful consideration, I
believe "Fun at my school" would be a better choice. Here's why.
First, this theme directly reflects our daily school life, making it relatable to everyone. Students can
share funny classroom moments, sports events, or club activities, which helps us all appreciate the joy in
ordinary days. Second,it encourages positive interaction. By reading about each other's experiences,we'll
better understand our classmates and build stronger bonds. Lastly, compared to "Guess who I am," it's
more inclusive. While the latter focuses on individual mysteries, "Fun at School" fosters a sense of
community.
I believe this column will both entertain and strengthen our school community. Thanks for
considering the idea!
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Chris,
I am writing to share with you an art class I had in a park last Friday.During the class, I painted a
landscape featuring the towering green trees and the clear blue sky, with a family of ducks swimming in
the lake. The painting not only represented the scene but also mirrored the peacefulness I sensed. Creating
artwork in the park was a refreshing break from the usual classroom setting. The fresh air and the sound of birds
singing added a calming effect to the whole process. It was a truly amazing experience! Ican't wait to show you my
creation in person and perhaps we can enjoy a similar experience together.
Yours.

Dear Ryan,
I'm Li Hua from Class 3. I am writing to express my concern about the upcoming spoken English
program.
As you said, you intend to have us randomly matched in pairs. This, however, may cause problems
such as language barriers, mismatched learning goals, and lack of motivation, which may reduce the
effectiveness of the program.
A better way might be to have students practice with partners who have similar English proficiency
and learning needs. This will not only enhance the program effectiveness but also promote communication
and cooperation among students.
Thank you for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Youth and Me
Congratulations on the 10th anniversary of Youth.
I have been a devoted reader since I subscribed to the newspaper. Obsessed with it, I read each issue from
cover to cover. It boasts a variety of columns, of which Chinese culture is my favorite. The series of contents not
only introduces abundant cultural knowledge but also values the inheritance of brilliant culture and strengthens our
cultural confidence.
As a fan of Youth,I recommend that it will be better if it carries some articles about the life of foreign teens
and 1 hope that it will become even more popular.

The person I respect
There are many respectable people around us. Take my neighbor Uncle Li for example. He is a
volunteer who works as a gate guard in our community during the epidemic of COVID-19, and his main
duty is to measure body temperature and check the passes for exit and entry.Regardless of the risk of
getting infected, Uncle Li is responsible and devoted to his job. Even in terrible weather, he still sticks
to his post and leaves no one unchecked. Thanks to his efforts in epidemic prevention and control, our
neighborhood has been in a good state. Actually, there are many selfless people like Uncle Li around us,
and they well deserve our respect.

My Weekend
My classmates and I took part in a picking activity on a farm last weekend. The farm, located in the suburb of
our city, has a wide range of crops such as vegetables and fruits. On arriving at the farm, we began with the area
of fruit trees and then moved on to the vegetable field. During the process, the farmer explained to us a lot about
the crops we picked. We were enjoying ourselves before we knew it was time to go back. Every one of us
considered the picking both meaningful and rewarding, for we not only gained knowledge of gardening but also
had a better understanding of nature.

Dear Miss Evans,
I'm writing to ask for your guidance on a short play, which is adapted from one of our texts.
The text we have chosen is titled "Wildlife Protection". It tells a story about a girl named Daisy,
who talks with some wild animals and makes up her mind to help protect the environment. We need you
to give us some expert guidance on dialogue between characters,body-action, plot, setting, and so on.
Could we meet in our school art hall at 8:00 am this Sunday if it is convenient for you? We sincerely
hope you can do us this favor and help improve our performance.
I'm looking forward to your reply.
Yours.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to apply to be a volunteer for the Chinese Painting Exhibition which will be held in
your art gallery. I think I am qualified forthis job, because I have learned Chinese painting since
childhood. Equally important, I am fluent in both Chinese and English, so I have no difficulty in
communicating with others. If I am lucky enough to be chosen as a volunteer, I can show visitors around
the gallery and answer their questions about the paintings, after some proper training.
I would be very grateful if you could offer me the opportunity. I'm looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
Passage 14
Dear Chris,
I’m writing to let you know that we will have a volleyball match next month. The match will take place in our
school gym on the morning of July 8th. We will play against a team from Lingnan High School. For good
performance in the match, we must get fully prepared and practice hard. So starting tomorrow, we all need to train
for two hours after school every day. In addition, we should avoid getting hurt during the training and have a
healthy diet to keep fit.
You’re an excellent player. With you on the team, we have every hope of beating Lingnan. Let’s try hard
together!
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Allen,
How is everything going? Our school will hold a music festival next Saturday morning in the school
hall to enrich students' after-school life. As an organizer, I'm writing to invite you to join us.
The opening ceremony will start at 9:00 am, and the schoolmaster will deliver a speech. Following
the speech is a one-hour lecture with the title of"A Brief History of Chinese Music" by Professor Guo,
after which there will be various fantastic performances played by talented students. You are particularly
welcome to show up on stage, which will definitely add color and fun to our festival.
Looking forward to your early reply.
Best wishes,

Dear Terry,
How are you doing these days? I hear you are invited to dinner at your Chinese friend's house. As
for this I don't think there is much for you to pay attention to. However, I do have a few suggestions
for you. Since some people are very cautious about time, I strongly advise you to arrive 5 minutes
earlier.
You may take a gift with you, but it doesn't have to be something of great value. It makes sense to
take some fruit with you. And you'd better practice using chopsticks in advance or let them know ahead
of time that you need a fork or spoon.
Don't worry. I believe you can fit into the Chinese family.
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Peter,
I am exceedingly delighted to hear from you. You asked me in your last letter about the physical
exercise in our school and the following information may give you a rough sketch.
To begin with, a fabulous new stadium has been built up, which has become the new landmark in
our school. Moreover, with the stadium set up, a wide range of sports events are able to be held, of
which ping-pong, football as well as running competitions enjoy great popularity. As for me, I’m
intoxicated with basketball since it has been giving me strength to confront the challenges in my life.
All in all, I sincerely invite you to come to our school and see for yourself.
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Leslie,
How are you? I'm writing to tell you about your next Chinese lesson.
We'll still meet at my school, but not on Saturday as usual, since I'll have to participate in a sporting activity
that day. So let's make it three o'clock on Sunday afternoon.
As you know, in order to acquire a good knowledge of Chinese, you should learn more about Chinese culture
and history. Therefore, this time I will introduce Tang Poetry to you, which is of great help in learning Chinese. I
advise you to learn about the brief history of the Tang dynasty in advance. It will surely help you in learning the
poems.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Henry,
How are things with you?
I’ve got great news for you. There will be an art exhibition on Chinese paper-cutting this month. Knowing that
you show great interest in Chinese culture, I’d like to invite you to attend the exhibition with me. The exhibition, to
be held in the City Hall of Xi’an, lasts for seven days from June 6th to 12th, which attracts a large number of
visitors at home and abroad. Featuring Chinese paper-cutting, the exhibition not only shows a variety of paper-cuts
in different regions, but also presents to us the history and development of paper-cutting in China. I am sure that it
will broaden your horizons and that you will enjoy it. I wonder if it is convenient for you to join me in visiting the
exhibition.
Looking forward to your reply.

Dear Eric,
I’m writing to tell you some good news. You know I’m a member of our school table tennis team.
Now we’re recruiting new members. I’d like to invite you to join us.
We practice playing table tennis in the club after school. What’s more, we often play games with
other teams of our city at weekends. Playing table tennis can not only build us up but also give us a lot
of fun. If you are interested in it and want to join us, you may send an e-mail back to me or call our
club at 0856-2830094 before this Friday. Of course, you may directly come to our club after school.
Looking forward to your reply.
