【答案】Dear Kate,
It’s a great idea to make a collection of our English essays. This compilation will surely be a wonderful
showcase of our English learning achievements. I have a suggestion that might enhance the overall quality of this
collection — adding relevant pictures.
Pictures can play a vital role in making the essays more engaging. For example, if an essay is about a travel
experience, a vivid picture of the described scenery can bring the story to life, helping readers better visualize the
places and emotions.
I’m quite interested in contributing to this project. As I have been learning drawing for years and have a good
command of various drawing techniques, I believe I can create pictures that perfectly match the themes of the
essays.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】
Dear Jenny,
I really like the idea of adding a new column to our English newspaper. I’m writing to express that my
predilection goes to “Guess who I am”, which capitalizes on an object clause to signal its potential contents.
The column will serve as a catalyst for closer bonds between students. Redoubling efforts to boost
academic performance, we pay little heed to other classmates’ personalities, hobbies, strengths, and even
aspirations. Such an inviting column, adopting a “description and guess” approach, must expose everyone to
others’ characteristics, thus strengthening mutual understanding. More importantly, more friendships will
be forged, since the column enables us to befriend someone on the same wavelength.
This eye-catching column, I’m firmly convinced, won’t fail to grant the whole class a harmonious
atmosphere.
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Chris,
I’m writing to share with you an art class I had in a park last Friday.
We were tasked to draw or paint something that impressed us most. Inspired by the fantastic scenery, I
decided to create a watercolor painting of the small bridge over the park’s pond, surrounded by blooming
flowers.
The entire experience was incredibly refreshing. Being surrounded by nature not only sparked my
creativity but also offered a much-needed break from the usual hustle and bustle of school life. I felt a deep
sense of peace as I painted.
In a word, It was not just an art class; it was a moment of connection with nature that I truly cherished.
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Ryan,
I’m Li Hua from Class 3. I think it’s not a good idea to randomly pair up students for the spoken
English training after class. The reasons are as follows.
To begin with, randomly pairing up students may lead to unbalanced language abilities within the
groups. This can hinder the progress of students as the more advanced one may dominate the conversation,
leaving little room for the other students to improve. Besides, students may feel uncomfortable or less
motivated if paired with someone who they don’t get along with or have difficulty communicating with.
My suggestion is to group students based on their language abilities or to let students choose their own
partners. This way, everyone can feel more comfortable practicing and improving their spoken English
together.
Thank you for considering my suggestion.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Dear Caroline,
This is my first time that I have invited you to attend our program —Talk and Talk. It is ten years since
Talk and Talk was established. This is an amazing program where you can share your ideas with students.
Now, when having trouble in learning English well, plenty of students urge to know how to deal with it.
As our distinguished foreign language teacher, your aid can help us a lot. If you are available on this Sunday,
I together with the whole Talk and Talk staff am waiting for your coming.
I’d appreciate it if you take my invitation into consideration.
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】Dear Chris,
How are you doing these days? It has been a year since you came back to Ireland. I miss you so much. I still
remember the very day when we met at China-Ireland Cultural Festival two years ago. It was at that festival that
you shared so many interesting things about your country together, through which I learned a lot about your food,
culture and history. We really enjoyed ourselves there. What’s far more important is that we became good friends
then. Though I felt a little sorry that you left China last year, I am pleased to know you are leading a happy life in
your hometown.
I hope we can keep in touch often.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua

Ranking My College Life Essentials
When it comes to the key elements of college life, I rank study first, sleep second and socialize third for solid
reasons.
Undoubtedly, study tops the list because college serves as a vital platform where we build up professional
knowledge and polish comprehensive abilities for our future. Meanwhile, enough sleep guarantees our physical
health and keeps us mentally sharp. It lays a solid foundation for efficient study. Although socializing enriches our
campus life and develops our teamwork skills, it is only a complementary part rather than a main task.
Only by balancing the three aspects reasonably can we embrace a fulfilling college life.

Treasure Library Books: Our Shared Responsibility
Recently, I’ve noticed a disturbing phenomenon in our school library. Many books have been scribbled and
defaced. Some pages are filled with random drawings, while others have important passages underlined or crossed
out. Even worse, some books have been torn.
These books are our shared assets, not personal notebooks. They deserve our respect and care. Every mark on
them not only ruins the reading experience for others but also shortens their lifespan. Let’s treasure our library
books, keeping them in good condition. After all, a well-kept library is a reflection of our school’s culture and our
own good character.

Development of Transport in China
From the vehicle of horses to today’s convenient transport, Chinese transport has seen enormous
development. Chinese transport has undergone remarkable transformations, giving the Chinese people access to
different ways of travelling.
Firstly, shared bicycles have emerged as a symbol of urban mobility, offering an affordable and green
alternative for short trips. Secondly, the introduction of high- speed trains has dramatically shortened travel times,
making intercity travel faster and more comfortable. Lastly, the proliferation of new energy vehicles underscores
China’s dedication to environmental sustainability, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. These developments illustrate
China’s journey towards a modern and efficient transportation network that balances convenience with
environmental responsibility.
In short, China’s transport system is embracing innovation and eco-friendliness.

My views on filming short videos on campus
Good morning, everyone! I’ve recently noticed a growing trend of students filming short videos on
campus with their mobile phones.
While I appreciate the enthusiasm for sharing creative content, we must also consider the potential
drawbacks. Filming can disrupt the learning environment by interrupting classes or study sessions, making
it difficult for others to concentrate. Additionally, not everyone is comfortable being recorded. Capturing
someone without their permission can lead to discomfort or conflict.
To create a more harmonious atmosphere, I’d like to offer several practical tips. First, respect our
shared study time by avoiding filming in quiet areas or during class. Second, always ask permission from
anyone featured in your videos. Lastly, follow the school rules regarding filming on campus.
Thank you for considering my suggestions!

Stand Up and Exercise, Everybody!
Everybody! Are you tired of sitting in class all day? How about incorporating some physical activity
into your daily routine? One great option is the “Stand Up and Stretch” exercise. This simple routine
involves standing up from your desk, stretching your arms, legs and back, and taking a few deep breaths. It’s
a quick and easy way to get your blood flowing and re-energize your body and mind. This exercise is
recommended for several reasons.
First, it helps to combat the negative effects of prolonged sitting, such as back pain and stiffness.
Second, it can improve your focus and concentration, making it easier to stay engaged in class. Lastly, it
promotes a healthy and active lifestyle, which is essential for overall well-being.
So, next time you feel a bit sluggish during class, remember to stand up and stretch! It’s a small change
that can make a big difference in your day.

Getting to Know the Plants Around US
Last weekend, I participated in a “Getting to Know the Plants Around Us” activity organised by our
Students’ Union.
The activity began with a lecture by a local botanist, who taught us about the different characteristics
and uses of various plant species. We then went on a natural walk to observe and collect samples of different
plants. Throughout the event, I was struck by the incredible variety of plants that exist in our world and
learned about plants that are used for medical purposes, as well as those that provide food and shelter for
animals. I also gained a greater appreciation for the role that plants play in maintaining the balance of our
ecosystem.
Overall, it was a valuable and enriching experience.

This online concert is absolutely fantastic.
The performers from the two schools have done their best in entertaining the audience with one song after
another. Their performances are undoubtedly of high quality, which makes the concert almost no different from a
live one. I enjoyed every second of the concert and was particularly attracted when the boys and girls from Britain
started to sing the traditional Chinese song “Liang Zhu”. They performed the song in a way that touched my heart
and gave me a feeling of connection.
I hope there will be more opportunities in the future for us Chinese students and our international friends to
learn about and from each other.

【答案】Our oceans, our responsibility
June 8th was named by the UN in 2009 as World Oceans Day. When it comes to ocean, its pollution is
becoming more and more serious. World Ocean Day, falling on June 8th, is aimed at raising awareness of ocean
conservation.
Ocean plays a key role in our world. Not only does ocean offer us sufficient food, but also it maintains the
balance of nature. Thus, it is imperative to protect ocean. First of all, what we can do is to place importance on our
daily actions. For example, garbage can’t be thrown into ocean. What’s more, we can also hand out leaflets to call
on more people to protect the ocean. The more people are involved, the better the ocean environment is.
All in all, it is high time that we devoted ourselves to protecting ocean. To protect ocean is to protect
ourselves.
