What started as a small act of kindness between two women has grown into successful online community with
more than 40,000 members.
Jen Justiniano began painting rocks as a way to deal with worry after a hurricane (飓风), posting photos of her
creations on Facebook. At the same time, her friend Carrie Cerve was sharing kind messages on the platform,
encouraging others to spread warmth.
“I just felt like today was the day to show some kindness, show some reminders that you, as one person, can
make a difference,” Cerve told Florida Today.
Finally, the two women decided to create a Facebook group called Brevard Rocks FL. To their surprise, within
weeks, the group grew to 1,000 members, and today, it has an amazing 41,500 members, with more people joining
every day.
The idea is simple yet powerful: members paint rocks with messages like “Be kind” “Spread kindness” and
“Love”, and then hide them around the community. Those who find the rocks often feel a strong sense of thankfulness,
leading them to join the group and share their stories.
One of those touched by the action was Coleen Carlson of Viera. During a very difficult time in her life, Carlson
found a pink-painted rock with the word “Warrior (勇士)” on it outside a coffee shop. The message encouraged her
deeply.
“I burst into tears and knew the rock was made just for me,” she said. “I kept the rock for several years, until
I had a friend going through a hard time too. I gave her the rock, and she cried with me.”
This growing community shows the power of small acts of kindness. What started with a few painted rockshas turned into a movement that’s raising spirits and spreading love across Brevard County and beyond.

Zhang Fubai, 70, is a follower of sugar painting-the intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in Tianjin.
He received the sweet business from his father, who was also a sugar painter.
