My grandparents lived in an old house on a farm. In 1963, at the age of 65, my grandfather, Erwin, decided to
build a new house. He wasn’t quite sure what to do with the old house. He didn’t want to pull it down. In the end,
he used a bulldozer (推土机) to push the old house far out into the trees. That old house sat there from then on.
After my grandparents passed away, I bought the farm. My wife and I raised our sons on this place and lived
here for more than 30 years. When we first moved in, my wife took one look at the lonely house and said it was a
danger. So I went to check out the old house. Maybe, something of value had been left behind in it.
I felt as if I had found a time capsule (时间胶囊). Here lay something that showed my grandparents’ lives—a
broken chair, some old clothes and a radio. But the thing that drew my eyes was a cardboard box filled with papers.
There were letters from old friends and relatives, now all dead and gone. There was also an uncle’s third-grade
spelling book at the bottom of the box.
The years passed and we visited many places. When I looked at the old house through the trees, I wondered:
How did my grandparents manage? How did they live in the storms and the hard time? I remembered how, as a
child, I would try to walk after my father and enjoyed the life on the farm.
24. How did the grandfather deal with (处理) the old house?
A. He pulled it down. B. He still lived in it.
C. He sold it to the writer. D. He pushed it into the trees.
25. Which word can you use to describe the house according to Paragraph 3?
A. Old. B. Clean. C. Small. D. Dark.
26. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. The writer didn’t live happily.
B. The writer missed his sons very much.
C. The writer missed the years on the farm.
D. The writer wouldn’t visit the old house again.

Some people have fun collecting rocks. Collecting rocks is easy — you just pick up a rock! But here are a few
ideas to get you started on your rock collection.
Which rocks to collect,
You can collect rocks according to color shape, quality or anything that you find interesting. Many rock
collectors try to collect all the connected rocks from the area where they live. Others look for unusual rocks from
places they visit.
Where to find rocks
Your rock collection can start with rocks you find in your own backyard or neighborhood. Look for rocks in
river beds or areas of erosion( 侵蚀 ) where you can often find unusual rocks. Interesting rocks can also be found in
places where humans have cut into the earth, like road cuts and construction sites.
Cleaning and showing your rocks
As you collect rocks, it’s a good idea to keep a record of when and where you found it. You can make a sign
with a piece of tape and put it to your rock. Record the fact of your find in a field notebook. You can put rocks into
egg boxes or shoe boxes. If you want to show your rocks, try an artistic glass bottle.
How to find more information
Many cities have rock clubs that offer useful classes. Local rock shows also offer helpful information about
,
rocks and you can buy or sell rocks there. What’s more many natural history museums have exhibitions where you
can know more about rocks.
27. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
.
A To tell us how to start collecting rocks.
B. To introduce us a special kind of rocks.
C. To give us some information about rocks.
D. To show us where we can buy or sell rocks.
28. What does the writer suggest if you want to show your rocks?
A. Join a rock club. B. Try an expensive vase.
C. Take a new metal box. D. Use an artistic glass bottle.
29. According to the last paragraph, we can find more information about rocks __________.
A. in two ways B. in three ways C. in four ways D. in five ways
D
If you’re a kid who likes to have fun and chat with friends online, here’s how you can stay safe and avoidproblems.
Choose safer sites. Your parents and teachers can guide you to the best sites for you. Some sites have age
restrictions (限制), so it’s safer to tell the truth and keep away from those sites until you’re older. Also remember
that plenty of sites let you play games and have fun without asking you to create an account (帐户).
Guard your passwords. To keep people from guessing your password, don’t pick something easy like your
pet’s name or your favourite team. For a truly secret password, try picking two very random (随机的) words that
have nothing to do with you (lampshadeMilk). To keep it super secret, put a number between the words
(lampshade7Milk). Remember not to share your passwords with anyone except your parents.
Limit what you share. It’s best to think first and type second when you’re sharing something about yourself
online. You probably already know that you shouldn’t tell a stranger where you live or give out your phone number.
And be careful not to send pictures that include other people or that allow others to see exactly where you are.
Some phones and computers will state your location, so always be sure your location apps are turned off.
Be choosy about your online friends. Some sites let kids make lots of friends with people they don’t know.
Some kids even compete to see who can get the most friends. But online friends are not the same as real in-person
friends.
Never agree to meet an online friend in person or give out personal information about yourself, such as your
home address, where you go to school, or your phone number. It’s dangerous because some adults pretend (假装) to
be kids online.
30. What should you do when you meet some sites with age restrictions?
A. Tell the truth. B. Share it with friends.
C. Use others’ accounts. D. Pretend you are an adult.
31. Which of the following is a super secret password?
A. NBA. B. 20071201.
C. keyflower3Tiger. D. lampshadeMilk.
32. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT right?
A. Think first and type second.
B. Try to get the most friends online.
C. Be careful about your personal information.
D. Always remember to turn off your location apps.
33. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Online Rules to Follow. B. Online Problems You Meet.
C. How to Choose Safer Sites. D. How to Make Friends Online.四、阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。(共10分,每小题2分)
It was a hot August day. Joey and his sister Jenny played soccer. Ruben and Rebecca joined them. Joey kicked
the ball to Ruben. It rolled into the busy street, and Ruben started to chase it. Just then a car passed by. The car hit
the ball and popped(爆裂) it. “There are more cars on our street all the time!” said Ruben.
A few nights later, Joey and Jenny talked to their parents. “We’ve been doing our research,” said Jenny. “We
think there should be stop signs at the corner, because that will slow traffic and make it safer to cross our street,”
“Stop signs are a great idea,” said mom. “You’ve been counting cars before and after school?” “Yes,” said Joey.
“Also, Ruben has a camera. He’s been taking pictures of people trying to cross.” “Good work!” said dad. “The next
step is a petition (请愿书).”
Dad and mom showed Jenny and Joey how to write a petition. The petition stated (陈述) the reasons for
adding stop signs. People could sign the petition if they agreed. “You need signatures (签名) from more than half of
the people in the neighborhood,” said dad. Over the next week, Joey, Jenny, Ruben and Rebecca talked to people in
the neighborhood. Many people signed their petition.
Next week, the kids brought the petition, photos and traffic counting to the city council (议会) meeting. When
their names were called, Joey, Jenny, Ruben and Rebecca stood at the microphone. When they finished, neighbors
took turns speaking. Everyone said stop signs were needed. The city council president said they would discuss this
and vote in two weeks.
Two weeks later there was a result of the voting. The city council voted YES! The kids were happy because
they tried their best to make a difference.
