My mom was badly ill and died on her 50th birthday. Though she tried her best to fight, she just couldn’t get
over it.
My mom never took herself too seriously. She just wanted everyone to be happy, and we loved her for it. Even
when I was upset with her for not letting me stay overnight with my friends, or when she expressed disappointment
that I couldn’t bring my grades up, I still loved her so much. She respected my privacy (隐私). And if I ever needed
to talk, she would leave her door wide open and listen to me carefully. She left us too soon, but she left her children
with the memory of being loved. My mom wasn’t perfect. But I remember her as perfect, not because she did
everything right, but because she tried to know me, to connect with me, and to always make me feel safe and loved.
Ten years after her death, I welcomed my own child into the world. At the beginning, I was just angry. Angry
that this new person would never get to know her wonderful grandmother. Angry that I couldn’t pick up the phone
and ask my mom how she dealt with this or that. I missed her love. I just missed her.Later, I accepted and tried to change the situation. How can I give my daughter what my mom managed to
give me? Could I be easygoing like her? Will my daughter feel as loved as I did?
Now, I see all of these things in myself, and in my daughter, and think to myself, “That’s mom.” I realize this,
and I can almost see my mom smiling as if she were standing right there with me. And I smile too.

We human beings share one world and live on the same planet. The earth is beautiful and it’s our responsibility
to protect it and the environment. As students, maybe we can’t do a lot about cars and factories, but we can also
make our own efforts to make a difference.
Last weekend, my dad and I threw away my textbooks into intelligent waste-management recycling bins (智能
垃圾分类回收机). Those textbooks are what I used in my primary school and stayed in my room for a very long
time.
I once heard of Xiaohuanggou from one of my classmates. After learning about it, I told my dad about its use
and purpose. Xiaohuanggou is a tech firm (科技公司) which has set up many intelligent waste-management
recycling bins across the country. The bins help people sort (分类) and recycle their waste. People can throw away
objects they no longer need into the bins. The intelligent bins will then weigh the objects and give rewards (奖励)
to people. Then the rewards can be spent on products from the company’s app, online games or donated to charities
(做慈善捐助).
Considering that there were many textbooks that I didn’t need any more, both my dad and I thought it was a
good idea to throw them into the intelligent bins. As the intelligent bins can sort them, it would be more helpful andeasier for workers to process (处理) the garbage.
However, many people might just throw rubbish away without sorting it. This makes it difficult to process the
garbage, and much of it will be put into landfills (垃圾场) instead of being recycled. But by encouraging people
with rewards, I think that Xiaohuanggou may raise public awareness (提升公众意识) of garbage sorting.
Human beings live on the earth. It is meaningful to sort garbage to protect the environment. It is not a difficult
task to sort garbage before processing it. Let’s take actions together.
27. What can the intelligent waste-management recycling bins do?
①Sort the waste. ②Recycle the waste.
③Weigh the waste. ④Throw away the waste.
A. ①②③ B. ①②④ C. ①③④ D. ②③④
28. What can we learn about Xiaohuanggou?
A. The writer once heard of Xiaohuanggou from one of her teachers.
B. The rewards can be spent on products from the company’s app.
C. The rubbish without sorting makes garbage processing easier.
D. The rewards may raise public awareness of garbage sorting.
29. Which of the following would be the best title of the passage?
A. Setting Up a Tech Firm B. Developing a New App
C. Throwing Rubbish Away D. Recycling the Smart Way
D
According to a recent report, about 18% of China’s Internet users are under 19 years old. And nearly 1/4 of
them are students. While benefiting a lot from the Internet, such as education and communication, teenagers often
face dangers and risks. To better protect them, the Chinese government last year launched(启动) a special system
which has come to be known as the “Teenager Mode(模式).” Many live online video platforms(平台) are now
using it, but how effective is it?
“Teenager Mode” seems to be a firewall to protect teenage Internet users from overuse. Platforms have their
own ways to do that, such as time limits and passwords. They can also prohibit rewarding, recharging(续费) and
so on.
Although there are some advantages, “Teenager Mode” still has its problems. For example, many parentscomplain that their children can still see something unsuitable on some platforms although they use “Teenager
Mode”. And if teenagers get hold of the full password, they can enter and exit whenever they like.
Experts say the system is still very new and it takes time and energy to improve it. “‘Teenager Mode’ doesn’t
have the same standard yet. For platforms, they should make every effort to truly meet the requirements of the
regulatory authorities (管理当局的要求),” said Wang Sixin, the president of Beijing Net Law Society.
Others say “Teenager Mode” doesn’t really limit the time teenagers spend online. They can simply go from
one app or platform to another till they use up the time limit on each. To improve it, first of all, the time spent on
each app or platform needs to be shared. Second, in order to help parents control their children’s time spent online,
the app or platform can trigger(触发) an alarm to warn the parents.
In all, the system is an important first step to protect young people from the dangers and risks of the Internet,
but more needs to be done.
30. According to the passage, “Teenager Mode” is launched to ________.
A. keep teenagers far away from their computers
B. show teenagers the benefits of the Internet
C. stop teenagers from overusing the Internet
D. protect teenagers from the dangers in their schools
31. The word “prohibit” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.
A. provide B. allow C. change D. stop
32. What can you learn from the passage?
A. The “Teenager Mode” can only set passwords.
B. The “Teenager Mode” still has some problems.
C. Experts say the system will be improved soon.
D. Teenagers’ online time can be reduced successfully.
.
33 What is the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A. To tell teenagers not to use the Internet.
B. To point out the disadvantages of the Internet.
C. To discuss the effects of the “Teenager Mode”.
D. To encourage parents to use the “Teenager Mode”.
第二部分
本部分共6题,共20分。 根据题目要求,完成相应任务。
四、阅读表达(每题2分,共10分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。Grow Your Own Garden
Gardens come in all shapes and sizes. Starting a new one might seem difficult. But with a little planning and a
few tips, you’ll grow your own garden easily.
,
Grow what you love in your own garden. This way you’ll be sure to enjoy the process. You can grow
vegetables. If you don’t like vegetables, you can grow fruits, flowers and succulents(多肉植物).
Once you decide what kind of garden you’d like to start, you’ll need to plan a few things before getting to
work.
First, choose a location. Find a proper place that has good sunlight. Maybe you live in an apartment and don’t
have a yard. That’s not a problem! You can start a garden in containers(容器) or most plastic bottles. You can even
grow a garden in old rain boots.
Next, pick the right soil(土壤). This is important for a garden. An expert at a gardening store can advise you
on the best soil for your garden.
After you have the correct soil, choose your plants. Will you start with seeds(种子) or seedling(幼苗)?
Growing from seeds is often less expensive. And it’s more satisfying, because you get to watch the growth from
seed to plant. But growing from seedlings is easier. There’s a better chance for your plant to grow big enough.
If you are wondering the best time to plant your own garden, plant right before the start of the growing season
so that the plants can grow better.
If you’re a new gardener, start small. Because the larger the garden is, the greater the losses can be when
things go wrong. Once you know how to plant a garden, you’ll be able to plant season after season and try to grow
new things.
Soon your plants will produce fruits and vegetables. Share flowers with neighbors to brighten their day, or
bring some vegetables to a family that’s going through a hard time. As I like to say, “Be a kind person!”
