Lexie Alford comes from a traveling family. Her mother began her own travel business at a young age, and
always took Lexie with her on all of her travels. When she was only 18 years old, Lexie visited 70 countries. That
made her want to visit the other parts of the world. In October 2017, Lexie began a trip to visit all 195 countries in
the world. Two years later, she finished it.
Lexie used planes, boats and trains to get around. But she liked to travel by train most. “Traveling on trains
is slow travel. I can watch the changing views (风景) from the window,” she said.
For Lexie, traveling is the best. Even in the hard times, she never thought of giving up (放弃). “I’m lucky I
made it at last. I felt tired, but it was still an exciting trip. I learned quite a lot from the lovely and friendly people
in each country,” she said. “And I learned a lot about the world. The world would be so boring if everything was

Are you troubled by housework, such as cleaning tables or tidying your room? A new robot is here to help!
Now, the robot Mobile Aloha made by scientists at Stanford University in the US becomes popular online.
In the videos, we can see the robot preparing dishes by itself, from cutting vegetables to cracking (打破)
eggs. It’s also good at watering plants, petting cats, cleaning the floor and washing clothes.
Sounds good? Well, another video may let some people down—Mobile Aloha isn’t good at doing
housework on its own.
Instead, it learns from human actions before doing each kind of housework. When the situation changes, it
can’t work well without a human “teaching” it. So it may break dishes, bump into (撞上) things and even burn a
pot.
“The robot can successfully move chairs 80 percent of the time.” said the team after they did more studies
on it. “For cooking dishes, it’s only 40 percent. In short, it’s far from perfect.”
In fact, AI robots are good at tasks such as math and playing chess, but they will be in trouble when it
comes to simpler actions like cleaning. And it’s the same for Mobile Aloha. For example, if its body doesn’t move
correctly, even just with a small deviation (偏差), its arm may move too far to pick up a glass.
“Robots are not ready to take over the world,” the team said.
8.Where was the robot Mobile Aloha made?
A.In China. B.In the UK. C.In the USA.
9.What do we know about the robot Mobile Aloha?
A.It is good at doing homework.
B.It can water the flowers.
C.It hardly learns from human actions before doing housework.
10.Which is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The robot can always successfully move chairs.
B.Robots are prepared to take over the world.
C.AI robots is better at playing chess than cleaning.
11.In which part of a newspaper can we read this passage?A.Technology. B.Travel. C.Food.

In 2004, the world came alive to The Chorus, a French film which tells us how a teacher brings love and
hope to his students through music and then makes a difference to their lives.
Now the similar story happened at Haiga Primary School in Liupanshui, Southwest China’s Guizhou
Province, where Gu Ya, a 37-year-old teacher, helps children in mountainous areas learn to read music, play
instruments, and start rock bands. In September 2016, Gu Ya, a then rock singer, arrived at the school as a Chinese teacher. “When I got there,
there was only a teacher and fewer than ten students in two grades. It was really surprising. The kids were too shy
to look at me in the eyes,” Gu said. “The day I arrived, Zheng Long, the headmaster of the school, told me that we
had to care about not only the children’s studies and lives, but also their health in mind, helping them learn to
dream and be more confident.”
To open the hearts of the students and bring them confidence, Gu decided to teach them music. He taught
students in grades one and two ukulele (尤克里里) and guitar, and students in grades three and four drums or bass
guitar (贝斯吉他). In 2018, the school started its first rock band called Yu (Meeting). Not long after that, the
second band “Unknown Boy”, and the other bands “Naughty Elf” and “Haiga Shaonian” were also set up one
after another.
Zheng Long was surprised at the power of music. Many children who learned to play music became more
outgoing and got better grades in exams. “Music brings them a part of their dream. It was the old guitar that
brought new life to Haiga Primary School.”
Xiong Ting, a 15-year-old girl, was a student there before. “Thanks to Mr. Gu, I was no longer a shy and
quiet girl. I hope I could become a music teacher like him and bring change and hope to others.”
36.Was Gu Ya a music teacher when he got to Haiga Primary School?
37.How did Gu feel when he first got to Haiga Primary School?
38.Why did Gu decide to teach the students music?
39.What changes did the students have because of learning to play music?
40.Do you like music? Why or why not?
