black dot at the center of the paper. The professor told his students, “I want you to write down
what you see on your paper.”
At the end of the class, the professor collected all the students’ answers. He read each of them.
All the students were trying to describe the black dot.
The professor then explained, “I am not going to grade your answers. I just want to give
you something to think about. No one wrote about the white part of the paper. Everyone focused on
the black dot. The same thing happened in our lives. We have a piece of white paper to observe, but
we always focus on the dark spots.”
“Our life is a gift given to us. We always have reasons to celebrate. However, we keep
focusing only on the dark spots: weight problems, lack of money, etc. They are very small problems,
compared with everything we have in our lives. Do not waste time thinking about the negative
things. Enjoy each moment that life gives us.”

The Qingming Festival is an important traditional festival in China. It usually falls on April 4 or

Qingming, in Chinese, means “clear” and “bright.” The two words describe the weather
during this time period. It is suitable for farming and getting close to nature. The day before the
Qingming Festival is Cold Food Day. On that day, people are not allowed to use fire for cooking
and can only eat cold food. As time went by, the two festivals became one.
There are various activities for the Qingming Festival. Tomb sweeping is the most important one.
On the day of the festival, people sweep tombs to remember their ancestors. The Qingming Festival
is also a good time to feel the warm, sweet breezes of spring. Many people go on outings and fly
kites during the festival. The festival combines respect and fun together.
