It is always the police officers who catch bad guys in detective

forensic analysts (法医).
To most kids, Clue is just a board game. But for Monica Amy,
working out “who did it” is a job. Amy says she loved science and
reading detective books as a kid. In the seventh grade, she began thinking about how she could mix
her two interests. She decided forensics was the best way to combine them.
“I was fascinated by the idea of using science to figure out who did the murder(谋
杀).That is actually what forensics is: using science to piece together what happened,” Amy
said.
Amy, now 33, is a forensic DNA analyst. She uses science to help police officers
solve crimes(犯罪).The DNA in your cells(细胞)decides how your body works and

probably look like both of them. Unless you have a twin, your DNA is not like anyone else’s.
“It’s like a fingerprint. From DNA, we can tell who’s been at a crime scene.” Amy said. “If
you leave DNA, we know that you have been there because it is special to you.”
At a crime scene, police officers collect things that may have DNA on them. Everything that

Follow a strict way of life
Self-disciplined( 自 律 的 ) people are not all outstanding people. But nearly all
outstanding people are self-disciplined people. Some of them read every day. Some of them never run
late. The real difference between an elite (精英)person and an ordinary person is that an elite
person can manage his or her time well. That’s where their success comes from. What people call self-
discipline is in fact self-management.
One example is staying fit. Never underestimate(低估)someone who is in good
shape. Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows that it’s not easy. It's even harder to avoid
putting weight back on. If someone is in good shape, it shows that he knows the principles(原
则)of staying fit and is able to stick to a plan that uses these principles.
If someone is in good shape, it means that this person is good at
managing themselves and their time. Whether it is natural or acquired, it is a
great skill. It also shows that this person is able to keep persevering (坚 定
不移的)and can balance long-term goals with short-term goals.
So if someone is in good shape, he or she is much more than just healthy.
How do you learn self-management? First of all, set a goal and write down your reasons for
wanting to achieve it. Create a list of all the things you need to do to achieve this goal and start to
work on them one at a time. With self-discipline, small things in life will no longer trouble you.Through self-discipline, you can _______________________________.
88. Are all outstanding people self-disciplined people?
89. What’s the difference between an elite person and an ordinary person?
90. Which is even harder to lose weight or to avoid putting weight back on?
91. In the writer’s opinion, a person who is in good shape is self-disciplined, isn’t he?
92. List one of the suggestions mentioned( 涉 及 ) in the passage for starting self-
management.
93. What can you do through self-discipline? Fill in the blank with your own words.
