完形填空之夹叙夹议文
1.(2024·河北省部分高中高三上学期1 月期末)
A little girl was enjoying the beautiful garden in her home. Her father had a good collection of rare and prized
plants, which he

 1

  with great care.
The girl was

 2

by a plant full of delicate flowers. She approached it and admired its striking beauty.
Suddenly she

 3

that the plant was in a pile of filth (污秽). She could not tolerate the

 4

  of dirt
with such fantastic flowers.
She worked out a plan to clean the plant. She

 5

the plant with all her might from the dirt and washed
its

 6

in running tap water till all traces of dirt were washed away. She then placed the plant on a clean
stone and went away, proud that she had done a great

 7

 .
Later the little daughter ran over, followed by her father, to

 8

her achievement. “I have cleaned it,
Daddy,” she reported

 9

 .
To spot the uprooted plant, which had lain

 10

in the baking sun, the father showed her how her
treatment had nearly killed the plant and told her that the filthy soil was the best

 11

  to grow that plant.
Hearing that, the girl felt guilty that the plant had suffered by her cleaning.
A great gardener mixes

 12

  soil for each plant.

 13

, God provides each of us with the best
14

required for optimum (最佳) spiritual growth. But it may appear to be

 15

  and we may even
complain to God about our difficulty.

While enjoying my fresh lunch in a restaurant in Amsterdam, I noticed something odd. Customers coming in
for something to eat ignored the person standing behind the counter (柜台), preferring to

 1

 through a smart
phone.
What was the crazy thing about this? They were just several

 2

apart! In fact, they were so close that
the staff member took a quick

 3

at his screen to get a head start on picking the right vegetables—all
without any words

 4

. Now, I get it: Modern technology allows us to be more

 5

 , but I might be
witnessing something deeper: we prefer not to talk to each other anymore.
Think about it for a moment. When was the last time you naturally

 6

  a conversation with somebody
you didn’t know? The chances are that you don’t even

 7

! Likely either you or the other person was “busy”
with other things like

 8

with a smartphone. Now, with the

 9

of digital technologies, one can’t help
but pay the

 10

for modern efficiency: our ability to talk to strangers.
We shop,

 11

a hotel, or order a taxi, all via an app.

 12

 with random strangers is becoming
rarer and rarer. Yet there are surprising

 13

of having even a short and simple conversation with strangers.
You might learn something

 14

, and beyond doubt, it has the power to enrich your understanding of others
and

 15

a special bond in our modern world.

Ever since I was a boy, I have been an active reader and dreamed to be a writer. I have read and been

 1
by so many books from so many authors. I think it may be one of the reasons I started

 2

  myself. I even
enjoy hearing

 3

about other authors, because often they can

 4

  us a lot as well.
I heard one such story the other day that really made me stop and

 5

. The two famous authors, Kurt
Vonnegut and Joseph Heller were invited to a(n)

 6

given by a billionaire at his home. As the host

 7
his luxurious rooms to his guests and the rare works of art he had collected, Vonnegut said

 8

  to his friend
Heller that the host had probably made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his most

 9
novel over its entire history. Heller

 10

back and said, “Yes, he probably has, but I have something he
will never have—ENOUGH.”
What is enough? Our society tells us that

 11

is ever enough: The messages and advertisements
12

us every day telling us to buy more. The

 13

of life, however, teach us differently. They say
that if we have clothes to keep

 14

, a roof over our heads, and love from people around us, we have
enough. It is up to us, though, to

 15

it, and share it with the world.

The days that make us happy make us wise.
--- John Masefield
When I first read this line by England's Poet Laureate, it

 1

   me.  What  did Masefield mean?
Without thinking about it much, I had always assumed that the

 2

was true. But his serious assurance was
3

. I was deeply attracted by it.
Slowly, I seemed to

 4

his meaning and realized the wisdom that happiness makes possible lies in
clear perception(洞察力), not

 5

by anxiety nor dimmed by despair and boredom, and without the blind
6

  caused by fear.
Active happiness---not mere satisfaction or

 7

---often comes suddenly, like an April shower or the
unfolding of a bud. Then you discover what kind of wisdom has

 8

it. Amazingly, in your eyes, the
grass is greener; bird songs are sweeter; the

 9

of your friends are more understandable, and more
forgivable. Happiness is like a pair of eyeglasses correcting your

 10

  vision.
Nor are the

 11

of happiness limited to what is near around you. Unhappy, with your thoughts
focused on your emotional woes (痛苦) , your vision is cut short as though blocked by a wall. Happy, the wall
12

 .
Consequently, the long vision is there for the seeing. The ground at your feet, the world about you---people,
thoughts, emotions, pressures---are now

 13

a larger scene. Everything covers a fairer

 14

 .
Everything around you, whether it is encouraging or frustrating, no longer seems such a big deal. And here is the

We often wonder how we’re doing as parents. Kids don’t come with an instruction guide, so how do we

 1
the job we do raising them? Here’s an interesting thing. A dad attempted an

 2

with his daughter in a video
show: “fake job interview”. In this video, the daughter

 3

the father’s “interview” repeatedly, selling out her
dad in typical kid fashion.
The video opened, showing a man in a suit and tie. His daughter sat next to him, looking

 4

 . From the
opening sentence, you are offered the impression that this man is interviewing for a new job. The “

 5

 ” had
asked him to have his child present for an unknown reason.

 6

sitting with his daughter, Abby, he was ready
to make a favorable impression. However, the

 7

 didn’t last long.
As the man began his

 8

, he offered stories about his lifestyle. Abby

 9

 her expression as each
“fact” was mentioned. Finally she stood up and shouted “you can’t

 10

 to them.” However, the dad
continued the fake job interview. She continued to

 11

the rest of his lies before in ally walking offscreen.
When raising children, we can never be

 12

we’re doing it right. For this man, he is raising a fine
young lady with good

 13

.This fake job interview proved her strong beliefs and she isn’t afraid to make
noise about it. She doesn’t believe in lying and isn’t afraid to

 14

her dad when he does. This dad can be
15

of the job he is doing!

6.(2024·江苏省苏州市相城区南京师范大学苏州实验学校月考)
At the age of 12, I withdrew into my bedroom with my guitar. I had neither musical talent — many

 1
music lessons had proved that — nor musical training. My fingers ached as I tried to press down on the strings
without making them buzz (发出嗡嗡声).

 2

 , I worked my way through 2-, 3- and even 5-chord (和旋)
songs and discovered the

 3

thrills of these musical notes. No one

 4

me to do this. I did this myself
and of my own free will for a week, and the sense of happiness - true happiness

 5

  in absorption in
something - has

 6

me. Fifty years later, that week’s self-directed practice became a model and 247
for almost every meaningful thing I have done since. It makes me understand the

 8

  between achievement
and accomplishment.
The world favors achievement while

 9

accomplishment. The former is the completion of the task
imposed (强加) from the outside — the

 10

being a path to the next task. The latter is the end point of an
activity we have chosen, whose bonus is the sudden

 11

  of happiness.
The seeking of accomplishment always

 12

people. I learned so long ago in that

 13

  week
that simply lifting one finger from the guitar’s C chord, you should get the most moving

 14

  in tune. I
didn’t know then it was a major 7th chord, a favorite of some masters’. I just

 15

  accomplishment. That’s
real human “achievement”.

I’m a 47-year-old teacher. I am so blessed to work in the greatest

When I was named Maryland Teacher of the Year, I received a congratulatory e-mail from a former student

Recently, I watched a college basketball game to find another former student

Georgetown. Walking through a supermarket yesterday, I

One day, a girl came upon a cocoon, and she could tell that a butterfly was trying to

  .
The girl still thought she had done the butterfly a favor as she sat there waiting for its wings to grow in order
to

 7

its body. That wasn’t happening. The butterfly was unable to fly, and for the rest of its life, it could
only move by crawling around with little wings and a

The

requirement of being

important to

When I was in primary school, my school had an annual sports day. Usually, girls were 1 in sports
like jump rope and boys did the high jump, which I was anxious to take part in. I went to 2 up, but the
coach said, “Girls don’t do the high jump.”
I went home and 3 Mom of the coach’s words. She visited the headmaster the next day “Mr White,
Linda wants to do the high jump ”“Sorry, Mrs Martinez, but it’s our 4 that girls can’t do it,” he said “But
Mr White, I have no 5 of any rules saying that.” Finding no such rules, Mr White, feeling 6 ,
said “I have to consider it” at last
When we got home, Mom told me something I would always 7 : This wasn’t just about me. Other
girls 8 wanted to do this, too. A week later, Mom went to Mr White again. Finally, he agreed. As it turned
out, I won the high jump competition. To my 9 , some of the cheers I got were from boys! My mother was
10 --it wasn’t about me. It was about making people think about and see what girls could do. Later, I used
this 11 in my career as a building contractor-- women weren’t 12 to construct
buildings. When I first 13 the business, Mom said, “Go ahead. Start small, but think big.” I started
with small projects and now my company can handle large ones.
Those experiences taught me though people wouldn’t always 14 us, we should be brave to
jump over 15 and take paths few girls and women would take. And this has really made a difference.

My son turned 14 and didn’t have a smartphone. He was the only kid in his class without one. When he asked
for a phone, I

“You can choose to do things

The more I research, the more confident I feel in my

If teenagers are truly spending about 5 hours on average per day on their devices, as a recent research states,
then what are they not doing? Kids

 9

in their devices are missing out on real life, which strikes me a lot.
I want my son to have a

childhood, one full of adventures, imaginative play and physical
challenges. The simplest way to achieve these

 11

is to delay giving him a smartphone.
Some think my son is missing out or falling behind, but he is not. He does well in school,

friends, and moves independently around our town. He claimed he would give his own 14-year-old boy a phone
someday, and I told him that’s

. But recently, he admitted he

If that is his
