Can a green machine help the world’s poorest kids learn better? Nick thinks so. He and his
team of scientists have invented a new kind of laptop (便携式) computer for many children who
live in poor areas.
Nick works at a university. He started a group called One Laptop Per Child (OLPC). It is a
nonprofit organization for children. It isn’t to make money. It’s to help children learn well. The computers
are made for school-aged children in developing countries. Many of these children live in poor areas and go
to schools with outdoor classrooms. They make the laptop computers that don’t cost a lot. Then they sell the
machines to countries that have many poor people. The schools then give the computers to kids for free. This
means millions of poor kids can receive a laptop computer.
In order to work well, the laptops have many fun points like a built-in video camera, voice recording,
and games. The network lets students share information on the Web, write books, and read e-books. They
can also make music and chat with friends. Another great thing is that the laptops are powered by
solar energy (太阳能). So the computers have a colorful name—“The Green Machine”. Nick
thinks his green machines could make a difference in the lives of millions of poor kids. He says,
“Every problem you can think of—poverty (贫困), peace, the environment—is solved with
education.”
OLPC plans to give out over ten million computers in the next few years. Kids in Thailand,
Nigeria, Brazil, and Argentina will get most of them. Egypt also wants to take part in the program.
After that, Nick hopes to sell computers to other poor countries. Once the kids get them, they can
start studying!

The mysterious “Great Attractor”is pulling the Milky Way galaxy (银河系) off course (轨道).
No matter what we’re doing right now—siting, standing, walking—we’re moving.
___★___ First, the Earth is turning very fast while it’s in space, going about 1,000 miles
per hour, or 1,600 kilometers per hour. This turning makes our days and nights. Next, the Earth and the other
planets are going around the sun. We move at about 67,000 miles per hour, or 108,000 kilometers per hour.
This movement makes our seasons and years. Also, the sun and everything around it is going around the
middle of our galaxy, the Milky Way, really fast—over 500,000 miles per hour, or 828,000 kilometers per
hour. Besides everything in the universe is always getting bigger as it spreads out.
But in the 1970s, space experts noticed that something was different about the galaxies close to us,
called the Local Group. These galaxies were being pulled away from their normal course really fast, towards
something we couldn’t see. They named this place the Great Attractor, but it’s hard to learn more because we
can’t see it well.
“The Milky Way has so many stars and dust, which hide what we want to see in that direction. So our
galaxy is hiding the Great Atractor,” says Jorge Moreno, a space expert. This place we can’t see is
called the Zone of Avoidance by scientists. We still don’t know everything about why the Milky
Way and the other galaxies are being pulled off course, but there have been some ideas. Most
recently, the prime suspect (可疑对象) is a very big group of galaxies called Laniakea, which
means “big sky” in Hawaiian.
1.Which of the following can be put in ____★_____?
A.Why is the Milky Way galaxy being pulled off course?
B.The Great Attractor has a magic power.
C.How can the secrets of the universe be unlocked?
D.Actually, we’re moving in at least four different ways.

2.What causes the Earth’s days and nights according to the passage?
A.The other planets’ going around the sun.
B.The movement around the Milky Way
C.The Earth’s turning around itself.
D.The expansion (膨胀) of the universe.
3.People can’t see the Great Attractor well because __________.
A.it is too far away
B.too many stars and dust block that direction
C.it’s going around so fast
D.it’s not bright: enough in the universe
4 . The underlined phrase “ Zone of Avoidance” in the last paragraph probably means
“_________”.
A.a hidden part of the sky B.the speed of galaxy movement
C.a galaxy-free space D.the cause of galaxy attraction
5.What can we infer about the Great Attractor?
A.It is located somewhere within the Milky Way.
B.It is a large object influencing the movement of nearby galaxies.
C.It was discovered in 1970.
D.It's a single galaxy which pulls on other galaxies around.

When visitors to the Palace Museum feel a need to sit down for a cup of tea or find a bathroom without
a long line, they soon will be able to turn to their smart phones for the information they need.
This modern solution comes thanks to an agreement signed on Friday by the museum and Huawei Co.,
the telecommunication giant to build a “smart network” using 5G technology. Under the agreement, 5G
Wi-Fi signals will cover the Palace Museum China’s royal palace from 1420 to 1911.
“It’s important to always stay close to the latest technology to better serve the public,” said Shan
Jixiang, former director of the Palace Museum. Shan said there is still much room for improvement
in the handling of a huge number of cultural relics (遗迹), visitors stood in long lines until 3 a.m.
to have a look. The museum ended up preparing fast food to serve the hungry visitors. “I don’t want that
scenario to happen again”, Shan said. “Our operation can be done in a more scientific way.”
The new system will also make use of the closed-cameras that are set up all over the Palace Museum to
safeguard the museum’s precious relics. More than 1.86 million of them are housed at the museum, which
recorded nearly 20 million visits from the public last year. “How can we make sure no single visitor who
might have evil ideas threatens these treasures?” Shan said. “After adopting the Internet of
Things (物联网), we can instantly detect any motion involving the relics prevent such threats.”
The 5G network also will be used to improve remote meeting through web cameras, which

AI tools are becoming a big part of how programmers(程序员) work today. But are they a
helpful friend or a tricky problem? It really depends on how they are used, how new the
technology is, and how skilled the person using them is. Let's look at some examples of how AI
helps and sometimes causes trouble for programmers.
First, AI can be a great help. Tools like GitHub Copilot can write almost half of the code needed for a
project, making web pages or online stores much faster to build. This means programmers can spend more
time on new ideas and harder parts of the work. AI can also check code for mistakes, like finding problems
that might lead to errors later. It’s like having a smart assistant who helps you make fewer mistakes.
However, AI can also cause problems. Sometimes, the code AI writes might look good but actually has
mistakes or uses things that don't exist. One programmer found that AI-generated code was so messy it took
a long time to fix. This means programmers need to be very careful and check everything AI gives them. If
we rely too much on AI, we might not learn as much ourselves, and our own problem-solving skills could
get weaker.
So, AI tools are like a powerful tool; they can make things bigger. If used for simple tasks like writing
basic code or documents, they are very helpful. But if programmers just copy what AI gives them without
thinking, it can slow them down. It’s important for programmers to use AI wisely, checking its work and still

thinking for themselves. This way, AI can be a true partner, making programming better.
1. How much computer instructions can tools like GitHub Copilot create for a project?
A. They can create nearly all the computer instructions required for difficult projects.
B. Half the program saves programmers' time and project cost.
C. They can write almost half of the needed computer instructions.
D. Exactly 50% of the computer instructions can be produced by itself.
2. What benefit does AI provide in program checking?
A. It makes sure mistake-free programs after checking.
B. It speeds up the program review steps by 200%.
C. It helps find possible mistakes early.
D. It corrects all spelling mistakes in the computer program right away.
3. Why must programmers carefully check computer instructions made by AI?
A. Because AI's program is too complex for most programmers to understand.
B. To make sure it matches the company's style needs perfectly.
C. Fixing AI's program mistakes takes more time than writing from the start.
D. The program may have hidden mistakes.
4. What is a risk of depending too much on AI tools?
A. It increases project costs because of often computer program changes.
B. Programmers' personal information could be let out through AI setups.
C. It reduces problem-solving skills.
D. AI may refuse to do difficult programming tasks.
5. What is the writer's main advice for using AI?
A. Use it wisely with human checking.
B. Replace human programmers slowly with developed AI.
C. Master AI programming skills as quickly as possible.
D. Let AI do simple tasks to focus on creative work.
