Dear George,
I am afraid I can’t go to Sara’s party on Saturday. I had a long talk with my parents about going out at night.
They wanted me to be home at ten. Isn’t that funny? The party begins at 9:45 p.m. My parents were really worried
about my safety. I said I would look after myself well, but they still thought coming home early was the best way
to keep safe. I feel very sad. So I need to write to you to get this off my heart. Maybe I’ll still go to the party
although I have to be home early.
Love,
Brianna
Dear Brianna,
You might be surprised to hear that I had a similar talk with my parents! They wanted me to be home by
eleven, so I’d only have another hour after you have to leave. We will both be sixteen next year. We aren’t kids

around our age, and they can all stay until midnight. It’s so bad to have to leave a party early. I think I’ll try to talk
to my mom one more time. She is usually easier to talk to about things like this than my dad. However, if nothing
changes we’ll just have to listen to them.
Love,
George

think, what you care about and why. Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. Put yourself in their
shoes and you may find a better way out.
Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally

(24-25八年级上·浙江杭州·期中)Do you find that your dinners with your parents are less happy than
before? Do you find it easier to chat in the past but now it’s difficult? Do you and your parents often disagree on
things? You’re not alone. Many kids and their parents have such experiences.
When you’re growing up, your body changes a lot. You might worry about getting taller or heavier than
your friends, or about your voice changing or getting spots on your face. When you feel worried, you might get
angry at your parents sometimes. It’s also hard to balance (平衡) your feelings as you grow up. You get to a strange time called middle
ground—no longer a small child but not quite an adult (成人). You want to do things by yourself more, but you
still need your parents’ love and help. You want to make decisions by yourself, but your parents might not always
agree. This can make you feel sad.
But don’t worry too much about arguments with your parents. Many kids have them too. The most
important thing is to talk to them. Tell them how you feel, even if it’s hard. They might not agree with you right
away, but if you keep talking and listening to each other, you can find a way to make things better.
Remember, your parents love you and want to help you. Sometimes they forget how hard it is to grow up.
But if you keep talking to them and trying to understand each other, you can work things out. So keep trying, and
you’ll find that you and your parents can get along just fine.

A.Being not easy to make your own decisions.
B.Always following parents’ advice at home.
C.Having no time to talk or play with parents.
D.Failing to balance homework and hobbies.
4.What’s the purpose(目的) of the text?
A.To ask children to become more hard-working.
B.To describe the change of looks to the teenagers.
C.To give advice on how to get along better with parents.

重难语篇拔高练
(23-24八年级下·浙江宁波·开学考试)The evidence for harmony (和谐) may not be obvious (明显的)
in some families. But it seems that four out of five young people now get on well with their parents, which is the
opposite of the popularly held image (印象) of unhappy teenagers locked in their room after endless family
quarrels (争吵).
An important new study into teenage attitudes surprisingly shows that their family life is more harmonious
than it has ever been in the past. “We were surprised by just how positive today’s young people seem to be about
their families,” said one member of the research team. “They’re expected to be rebellious (叛逆的) and selfish but
actually they have other things on their minds; they want a car and material goods, and they worry if school is
serving them well. There’s more negotiation (商议) and discussion between parents and children, and children
expect to take part in the family decision-making process (过程). They don’t want to rock the boat.”
So it seems that this generation of parents is much more likely than parents of 30 years ago to treat their
children as friends. “My parents are happy to discuss things with me and willing to listen to me,” says 17-years-
old Daniel Lazall. “I always tell them when I’m going out clubbing. As long as they know what I’m doing, they’re
fine with it.” Susan Crome, who is now 21, agrees. “Looking back on the last 10 years, there was a lot of what you
could call negotiation. For example, as long as I’d done all my homework, I could go out on a Saturday night. But
I think my grandparents were a lot stricter with my parents than that.”
Maybe this positive view of family life should not be unexpected. It is possible that the idea of teenagers
rebellion is not rooted in real facts but a mistaken idea. A researcher comments, “Our surprise that teenagers say
they get along well with their parents comes because of a brief (短暂的) period in out social history when
teenagers were regarded as different beings. But that idea of rebelling and breaking away from their parents reallyonly happened during that one time in the 1960s when everyone rebelled. The normal situation throughout history
has been a smooth change from helping out with the family business to taking it over.”
1.What is the popular images of teenagers?
A.They worry about school. B.They quarrel a lot with their parents.
C.They have to be locked in to avoid troubles. D.They get on well with their parents.
2.The study shows that teenagers don’t want to ________.
A.share family responsibility B.cause trouble in their families
C.go boating with their family D.make family decisions
3.Compared with parents of 30 years ago, today’s parents ________.
A.go to clubs more often with their children B.are much stricter with their children
C.care less about their children’s life D.give their children more freedom
4.According to the author, teenage rebellion ________.
A.may be a wrong idea B.is common nowadays
C.existed only in the 1960s D.resulted from changes in families
5.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Negotiation in family B.Education in family
C.Harmony in family D.Teenage trouble in family
