(23-24八年级下·安徽安庆·期中)It’s easy to have a fight in your family. Sometimes your parents fight
with each other, or you fight with your parents, or even you fight with your brother or sister. When it happens, youmay feel sad or even angry. Remember even people who love each other fight sometimes.
When you’re sad or angry, keep calm and then try thinking of a way to solve the problem. You could go out

Even if you’re very angry, never hurt anyone in your family. That could only make things get worse. If your
brother or sister hurts you, it’s important to tell your parents. It’s also important to tell an adult (成年人) if your
parent hurts you. You could have a family meeting to talk about it when the fight happens. At the

(23-24八年级下·江西吉安·期中)A study points out parents can take some key steps to raise childrenwell. So, the parent-child relation is very important.
Parents bring warmth to children’s lives. They usually show kids love with support. As a child grows older,
he finds warmth in the parent-child relation in other ways. Warmth can lead children to do very well in all the
fields.
In fact, parents are the children’s role models. They can teach children not to depend on parents or others.
They are also very strict with children. That’s to say, children must do as they are told. Setting limits can help
children focus on the work. For example, limiting television time can help them finish homework on time.
From early childhood, the home becomes a school. And the dinner table might become the desk after
dinner. Parents will educate their children much if the parent-child relation is strong. For example, reading books
to them will improve their language skills, playing games with them will help them think and finishing puzzles
(智力游戏) with them will improve their cognitive (认知的) skills.
Mom and Dad play different roles in the childhood. Moms are their life teachers. They teach children not to
be afraid of new environments. They also spend time on simple and funny activities with children. Dads are their
growing teachers. Experts think fathers play an important role in children’s feelings and development. The father-
child relation always helps children learn to express and control their feelings.

A.Become too fat.B.Love parents. C.Be good at sports. D.Have lots of books.
2.Why must some children do what parents ask them to do?

A.Children’s language skills. B.Children’s communication skills.
C.Children’s cognitive skills. D.Children’s ability to think.

Dear Ella,
I am 14 years old. My parents like my brother better. Now when I ask
for something, my mom says it’s foolish and useless. But whenever my brother
asks for something, he gets it. When he beats me, my parents do nothing about
it. And I also have to do things for Dad like bringing his food and so on. I don’t
study too much but my grades are satisfactory for me. But my mom always
wants more. I am bored with all of them and I always think of leaving home by
myself. What can I do to change my life?
Alice
Dear Alice,
It sounds like you need to try to have a talk with your parents about your
feelings in person. I don’t think that you should judge (判断) your parents’ love
for you by whether you get things from them. It’s wrong of your parents to
allow your brother to beat you.
Can you talk to your school teacher about this? Please know that leaving
home is not the answer to your problems. You are young and it is a time when
sometimes one can feel very down and helpless. I really hope you will talk to
an adult (成年人) you believe in about these things and get better soon.

(23-24八年级下·陕西榆林·期中)Mom and Dad are two of the most important people in your life. Over
your lifetime, they may influence (影响) you more than anyone else you will meet. So if your mom loves to read,
you just might grow up carrying a book wherever you go, just as she does. But parents do a lot more than just pass
on their hobbies. Moms and Dads need to care for their kids the minute their kids are born. Most parents will dothis as long as they live.
Here are some ways for you to build a strong relationship with your parents.
◆Spend time together. Instead of playing computer games or watching TV, ask your mom and dad to play
with you. Go outside together, or do some reading.
◆Be kind. Little things might mean a lot to your mom or dad. You can brighten a parent’s day with a hug
(拥抱), a card, or a joke. It’s also lovely when a kid cleans up his or her room without being asked. And if you try
not to fight with your brothers or sisters, your parents will be so happy!
◆Do your best at whatever you do. You don’t have to be perfect, but when you do your best, you make your
parents proud. It makes them happy to see how you’re turning into a great kid. Why? Because it lets them know
they’re doing a good job.

(23-24八年级下·河北邢台·期中)Dear Lily,
I’m sorry to hear that you have problems with your parents. After reading your letter carefully, I’m going to
offer you some advice.
Firstly, find a right time to talk. Communication is a good way to solve problems. But don’t talk to your
parents during they are cooking dinner or before you go to school. Looking for a proper time to talk is very
helpful.
Secondly, plan what you want to say. You might have great pressure to talk with your parents. But you must
make a change to get on well with your parents. Why don’t you start by thinking about what problem you want to
solve at first?
Thirdly, deal with their worries. Let your parents trust you and believe your friends are good people. You
can provide them with certain examples so that they don’t need to worry about you.
Finally, take on more things around the house. Although you know the importance of doing housework, you
are sometimes lazy. When you do more housework to help your parents, you can imagine how happy they will be.
So you should try to do some housework for your parents.
I really hope that my advice can help you.

(23-24 八年级下·湖北武汉·期中)Most Chinese parents have great hope of their children. When
children are born, their parents have planned everything for them. Many children in China are unhappy. They live
a planned life and are made to fulfill the dreams that their parents have planned for them.
There are two sides to parents’ hope. The hope can encourage (鼓励) children to work harder for a better
life. According to some studies, whether a child will be successful or not depends largely on his or her parents’
hope. However, unrealistic (不现实的) hope can be bad to children. Every child has his or her own thoughts and
feelings. Parents’ hope can take children’s freedom away. Wise parents allow their children to have some freedom.
They encourage their children to do things they like to do and never judge (评判) them only by their grades.
My parents’ hope of me is to be happy, kind and healthy. They never put too much pressure (压力) on me,
★ . However, I have my own dreams. I will never give up because my parents always encourage me when I am

(23-24 八年级下·浙江杭州·期中)When did you last say “I love you” to your father? If you can’t
remember, then you can get the chance this Father’s Day in June.Generally compared to a mother’s gentle love, a father represents (代表) qualities like independence,
confidence, courage and adventure. Also, a caring father can help their children get along with others, according
to a study on Live Science. Fathers not only lead their children into their social circle but also teach them how to
act and control (控制) their feelings.
For example, Microsoft founder Bill Gates was quiet and didn’t like to talk with others when he was a little
kid. So his father often held family parties and let Bill play games with family members. “Games like soccer and
swimming seemed to be silly at that time but they improved my ability of leading and getting along with others,”
Gates once said in an interview with US Fortune Magazine.
US actor Will Smith learned important lessons from small things taught by his father. His father once
planned to pull down a wall of their shop and rebuild it. But little Will thought it was impossible. After a year and
a half, they did it. “You don’t try to build a wall. You are going to lay a brick (砖) every day. And soon you have a
wall,” he said on TV show Charlie Rose (《查理·罗斯访谈录》).
“One father is more than a hundred schoolmasters,” British poet George Herbert (1593-1632) once said. Do
you agree?

A.To remember your father’s love. B.To swim and relax yourself.

(23-24八年级下·河南郑州·期中)Dear George,
I am afraid I can’t go to Sara’s party on Saturday. I had a long talk with my parents about
going out at night. They wanted me to be home at ten. Isn’t that funny? The party begins at 9:45
pm. My parents were really worried about my safety. I said I would look after myself well, but
they still thought coming home early was the best way to keep safe. I feel very sad. So I need to
write to you to get this off my heart. Maybe I’ll still go to the party although I have to be home
early.
Love,
Brianna
Dear Brianna,
You might be surprised to hear that I had a similar talk with my parents! They wanted me
to be home by eleven, so I’d only have another hour after you have to leave. We will both be
sixteen next year. We aren’t kids anymore!
And I told my parents that Sara was celebrating her seventeenth birthday, so most of her
friends are around our age, and they can all stay until midnight. It’s so bad to have to leave a
party early.
I think I’ll try to talk to my mom one more time. She is usually easier to talk to about
things like this than my dad. However, if nothing changes we’ll just have to listen to them.
Love,
George

their parents. However, it is not true. Communication is a problem for children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to
communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here are some suggestions about getting on well with
parents.
Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t talk with your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably
won’t think over your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express (表达) yourself well if you are
angry. Go for a walk to cool off and think about what you want to say to your parents.
Try to reach an agreement. Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your
disagreement, but try your best to understand them. Sometimes your parents might not accept your reasons for
something. In these situations, it is important to show love and respect (尊重) to them. Showing respect will keep
your relationship strong.
Talk about your values (价值观). The values of your parents are probably different from yours. Tell your
parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them understand you better.

(23-24八年级下·浙江宁波·期中)Family communication helps keep a good home environment. Also, ithelps its members to be able to express their feelings in a healthy way. Probably most arguments and problems
that happen among family members are caused by miscommunication or being short of communication. If open
communication lines aren’t developed, family members won’t feel like expressing themselves, then
misunderstandings and fights will be more common.
A family that has a good communication at home will be able to solve arguments in a better way. In
addition, their relationships will improve, as family members will feel understood by one another. However,
creating a good environment at home can be difficult since each family member has a different communication
style. So, what are the suggestions for a better family communication?
Actually, it’s better to know how to be an assertive person when communicating with family members.
According to scientists, assertive people are those who are able to share their feelings, ideas, and opinions, while
respecting (尊重) others at the same time. In other words, an assertive person expresses their own feelings
properly without hurting others.
Another key to a healthy family environment is showing interest toward your loved ones. When you pay
attention to your family member’s worries and wishes, you show them that you care, which makes them feel
happy. It’s important to listen to them carefully.
Moreover, sharing your time with your family is important. Nowadays, finding free time to spend with you
family has become more and more challenging. However, you shouldn’t consider family time as “free time”.
Instead, you should consider it as part of your daily life. For example, make it a goal to use a specific time of the a
day to talk with your children, such as an hour before bedtime.
1.According to Paragraph 1, what caused family arguments?
A.Not enough time spent with family members.
B.Strong personalities of some family members.
C.Different lifestyles and habits of family members.
D.Wrong ways of communication among family members.
2.From Paragraph 3, we know that an assertive person is someone who _________.
A.cares more about his own rights
B.enjoys listening to others opinions
C.expresses himself without hurting others

(23-24 八年级下·浙江宁波·期中)What is one thing that would help parents understand their kids
better? More than 8,000 US kids answered this question in an online poll ( 投票) by Time for Kids and
KidsHealth.org.
Many US kids said they get along with their parents. But that doesn’t mean they never disagree. In fact,
most kids reported arguing with their parents, at least sometimes. And two out of five kids said arguments
sometimes even include shouting at each other. “it’s certainly normal to disagree and argue,” says D’Arcy Lyness,
an American child psychologist. “But it’s also important to learn how to do so respectfully. Be patient. Don’t use a
raised, angry voice.”
And not surprisingly, three out of four kids said they had lied to their parents some times. Many said they
lie so they would not get in trouble or disappoint (使失望) their parents. According to Lyness, lying isn’t just
wrong. It can actually have bad results. Telling the truth builds trust.
Telling the truth, says Lyness, shows maturity (成熟). But older kids actually lie more often than younger
ones. Kids ages 12 to 14 not only said they lie more, but they also reported having less fun, feeling less close and
not getting along as well with their parents.
According to Lyness, those feelings are not uncommon. As kids become more independent, they have more
areas of disagreement with their parents. But it doesn’t have to be that way. “Kids and parents get along
differently at each stage of the journey,” she says. “As kids grow and change, it is important for everybody to
change.”

(23-24八年级下·福建福州·期中)In today’s families, parents working all the time and kids are busy
with school, homework and many afternoon activities. Finding time to get together at the dining table seems
difficult. However, studies show that eating together has lots of benefits (益处) for family members, especially
children.
According to reports done by Columbia University (哥伦比亚大学), children eating more often with their
family are at lower risk of having poor eating habits, weight (体重) problems or alcohol dependency (酒精依赖).
They perform better at school than children who often eat alone.
Family meals came into American life in the mid-20th century. In the 60’s and 70’s, the way of family
meals changed. Restaurant visits, take-out and TV dinners became normal.
There are signs, however, that the old customs are coming back. According to the newest reports, 59% of
families said they ate dinner together at least five times a week. No matter what the reason is, it is a good change
that should be welcomed.
Eating together as a family is not just about eating habits and nutrition (营养). It is about teaching children
how to be part of their families and cultures. It also helps them understand the importance of food because in
today’s world food is so easy and cheap to get that we no longer think it is important.

(负责任的). But it will bring a lot of things that point them in the right direction.
