T can help Ss review words about different jobs.
Step 2 Presentation & Practice
Pre-listening
1a
Ask Ss if they have thought about what they would like to do
in the future.
Get Ss to think about what they like to do and what they havebeen good at doing. Get them to discuss this in groups of four.
Encourage group members to share what they think their friend’s
strong point might be and suggest occupations or areas of work
they can consider. Once the discussion is over, Ss can work
individually to fill in their answers.
Answers will vary.
1b
Sharing hopes
Divide the class into groups of four but make sure that Ss are with
a different set of group members than the ones they had in the
previous activity. In their groups, get each S to share their hopes
for the future. Ask them to elaborate on why they chose that
occupation or area of work.
While-listening
1c
Ask Ss to listen to a class discussion and check the hopes they
hear.
Before playing the recording, ask Ss to describe what they see in
the picture. Tell them that this might give them an idea of what to
expect in the conversation, or it might not. This means that they
should keep their minds open, listen and take notes accordingly and
not just wait to hear what they think might be said.
Answers: (from left to right)

questions. Do they think something else should be included? If so,
why? Based on what they discussed, get Ss to prepare and present
their speeches. T may wish to randomly pick Ss to share theirspeeches with the class, especially those who may have chosen a
