Step 1 Lead in
1 The T can play a listen and guess game to arouse Ss’ interest and
lead in the unit topic. The T play some music and ask Ss to
guess the names of these pieces and which musical instrument
they are played on.
The T can guide Ss to brainstorm more Chinese musical
instruments. And introduce some basic information about
Chinese musical instruments.
Step 2 Presentation & Reading
2a
The activity is to engage Ss in a speaking activity to prepare
them for the subsequent reading task. The T may ask Ss to
make the list in pairs or groups before having a class discussion
to consolidate the answers. Try to get all Ss involved in the
activity. Then the T can present some suggested answers like
this:
Chinese bamboo flute: Purple Bamboo Melody(紫竹调)
erhu: Erquan Yingyue(二泉映月); Horse Racing(赛马)
suona: Bainiao Chaofeng(百鸟朝凤); Quanjiafu(全家福)
...
Before reading, the T can ask Ss to look at the pictures and the
title and prompt Ss to predict the answer of the three questions
in 2b. Then the T can introduce some background information
about Abing and Erquan Yingyue. Play the music and encourage
Ss to express their feelings after hearing it.
If there is a student who can play erhu in the class, the T can
invite him/her to bring erhu to school in advance and play the
music for all Ss.
2b
The activity is to provide Ss with practice in reading for
specific
information. The T can make Ss read the passage quickly and
finish the task in 2b. Then the T can present the correct
answers.
Answers:

2. Erquan Yingyue (Moon Reflected on Second Spring).
3. He feels that it is sad but beautiful, and it not only paints a
picture of Abing’s own life but also makes people recall their deepest
wounds from their own sad or painful experiences.

2The activity is to provide Ss with practice in identifying main
ideas and supporting details in a passage. The T may wan to
explain what a typical paragraph consists of. An understanding
of this will enhance Ss’ reading and writing skills.
Note:
A typical paragraph is made up of a main idea and supporting
details.
The main idea expresses what the whole paragraph is about, which
is usually explicitly stated in a sentence called topic sentence. The
topic sentence is often found at the beginning of a paragraph.
Sometimes the main idea is implied rather than explicitly stated.
Supporting details tell us more about the main idea. They can come
in form of examples,reasons, opinions or other detailed information.
Ask Ss read the passage carefully and complete the chart in 2c
individually. Then Ss can check with partners. At last the T can
present the correct answers and guide Ss to read the passage
carefully again. During the process, the T can explain the new
words and expressions to Ss to help them have a better
understanding.

The activity is to provide Ss with practice in using the target
language and vocabulary. The T may want to review the use of
3the relative pronouns that and who.
Note:
Although that and who can both be used for people, who is usually
the preferred relative pronoun used to give more information about
people.
Ask Ss to finish the task in 2d without looking at the passage,
then invite some Ss to share their answers to make sure
everyone get the answers correct.

2e
The activity is to provide Ss with the opportunity to make
conversations based on information they have just read.
Before Ss start on the activity, the T can ask Ss to make an
ID card for Abing like this to make sure they have got
enough information about Abing.
After Ss finish the card, the T can ask Ss to make
conversations in pairs and invite some Ss to role-play their
conversations. The T can make assessments.

In order to practice the students' reading ability,we must do a lot of work
and keep on doing the same work.We usually help students to get the
relative knowledge or new words and expressions ready for the reading.And
Teaching
during reading,we use noting supporting details strategy and read the
Reflection
passage again and again.Students read with tasks,finish the tasks and learn
the new words and expressions while reading.After that,they can use the
information to retell the story.We should train the students in this way.
