你会用哪个词总结2020年?
For many of us, the word “lockdown?” has become part of our daily vocabulary with the arrival of the
COVID-19 pandemic(新冠疫情). Collins Dictionary has chosen the word as its 2020 Word of the Year. Collins
chooses a word each year that has had the biggest influence on the world.
But of course, “lockdown” was not the only word in everyone’s mind. There were other words that were also
related(相关的)to COVID-19 on Collins’ list of the year’s top 10 words. The word “pandemic” itself was on the
list, as well this year’s top words, such as “social distancing” and “key workers”(those whose work was necessary
to keep society from breaking down during the pandemic). With all of these somewhat depressing words it’s nice to know that this year also brought us some other words.
You may have read articles about BLM. It has the same meaning as Black Lives Matter. This social movement in
the US drew a lot of attention to the discrimination(歧视)that black people face, particularly when dealing with
police. Although the BLM movement has been around for a while, it became much bigger this year.
Other words include “TickToker(抖友)” and “(吃播)”. A TikToker is a person who regularly shares
videos on TikTok. “Mukbang” comes from the Korean language and refers to a livestream(直播)in which the
host eats a ridiculous(荒唐的)amount of food. It might be fun to watch, but it’s also very wasteful and
unhealthy.
In fact, China banned(禁止)such videos earlier this year.
39.Which word has Collins dictionary chosen as its 2020 Word of the Year?
40.Why did Collins Dictionary choose this word?
41.What is Paragraph 2 about?
42.What does BLM mean?
43.What means a livestream of a host eating food?

Why do we use shang cesuo to mean “go to the bathroom” and xia chufang to mean“go to the kitchen”?
①The door of the home would face south, with the bathroom located in the northeastern part of the house and
the kitchen located in the southeastern part.
On(A) ________, north is usually at the top of the map, while south is at the bottom. ② In Chinese, we say“上
北下南”to refer to the north as shang (upper) and the south as xia (lower). So people would say they were going
“up” to the bathroom and “(B) ________ ” to the kitchen because of how their homes were laid out.
(C) Ancient Chinese not only used shang and xia to refer to directions, but also social status( 地位 ) . Shang was
seen to be noble (尊贵的), while xia stood for humility(谦卑). For example, people used huangshang to refer to the
emperor and dianxia to refer to princes who had lower status than the emperor.③What does this have to do with the bathroom and kitchen? In the past, men were seen as the “noble” workers
of the family, while women were “humble” homemakers, Since women worked in the kitchen, the “humble”
character xia was used to refer to the room.
