(2020·北京门头沟区·九年级期末)
We often find that weekends and holidays feel so short while classes and work feel so long. Actually, though,
we know that this is not true. But we still wonder where that strange feeling comes from.
In fact, this is one of the ways that we're tricked (欺骗) by time, according to the website. All that is
interesting. The website lists several wrong impressions (印象) we often have about time. Let's have a look.
First of all, emotions affect our time-keeping abilities. Negative emotions (情绪), especially anxiety and
boredom, make time seem longer because they make us concentrate (全神贯注) more on the passage of time.
However, when we are enjoying ourselves, we pay more attention to what we are doing and are likely to lose track
of (失去对…的意识) time.
Here is another example. In 2007, a group of scientists carried out a test. In the test, people fell 50 meters into
a safety net and were then asked about their experience. Although the experience took shorter than 3 seconds, the
people thought it was much longer than it actually was.
This is because of the way our bodies reply to danger, according to the scientists. Our bodies produce a
chemical called adrenaline (肾上腺素) when we are faced with danger. It allows us to concentrate better so that we
can stay alive. As a result, we are able to remember far more details (细节) over a short period of time, which
makes it seem like time is going more slowly.
Another situation when we make mistakes about time is when we take afternoon naps. Have you ever had
trouble telling what time it is after a long nap? That's because the best amount of time for a nap is 20 minutes. After
20 minutes, you enter a new stage of sleep called slow-wave sleep. If you wake up mid-way in this stage, it will
take a while before you can correctly perceive (感知) time again.Yes, time can be mysterious and there is no way to control it. So, perhaps the best thing to do is to make good
use of every minute.
21.According to the passage, what possibly makes people feel so long?______
A.Weekends and holidays. B.Weekends and work.
C.Classes and work. D.Holidays and work.
22.According to the passage, what will NOT happen when we are faced with danger?______
A.Our bodies will produce a chemical called adrenaline.
B.We are able to feel that time seems to go more slowly.
C.Adrenaline will make us concentrate better to stay alive.
D.We will forget far more details over a short period of time.
23.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?______
A.Negative emotions, especially anxiety and boredom, make time seem longer because they make us concentrate
more on the passage of time.
B.When we are enjoying ourselves, we pay more attention to what we are doing and we are able to feel like time
is going more slowly.
C.If we wake up mid-way after a long nap, it will take a while before we can correctly perceive time again.
D.There is no way to control time. Perhaps the best thing to do is to make good use of every minute.

时间很慢”,可知D选项“我们会在很短的时间内忘记更多的细节”表述错误。故选D。
23.B推理判断题。由文章内容“Negative emotions, especially anxiety and boredom, make time seem longer”
可知消极情绪使时间显得更长,A选项表述正确。由文章内容“when we are enjoying ourselves, we pay more
attention to what we are doing and are likely to lose track of time”可知,当我们开心时,感觉时间过得很快,
故B选项表述错误。由文章内容“Yes, time can be mysterious and there is no way to control it. ”可知D选项表
述正确。由文章内容“Another situation when we make mistakes about time is when we take afternoon naps” 如
果我们在长时间小睡后中途醒来,也许我们很快就不能正确地感知时间了,可知 C选项表述正确。故选

(2020·北京市文汇中学九年级月考)
Need to buy something? Why go to a store? Buy it on the Internet! Need it now? Why wait? Ask for next-day
delivery! Each day, more and more people try online shopping. In fact, online sales have doubled in the last ten
years. But not everyone is excited. Some scientists now say that online shopping is bad for the environment.
People are surprised to hear this. “They think, ‘I don’t need to drive, and the business doesn’t need to build a
store, so there will be less pollution,’” says Nuria Prost, an environmental scientist. “But it is not so simple. In fact,
online shopping is wasteful. It also adds to air pollution.”
In truth, the Internet is not always as good a friend to the environment as it seems. For example, most people
thought that the Internet would help offices use less paper and other materials. But paper use increased by 33
percent between 1986 and 1997. “Online shopping could have similarly negative effects,” says Nevil Cohen, a
professor of environmental science.
Part of the problem is what people are buying these days. In the past, people bought things on the Internet thatdid not require much packing material, such as books and clothing. But now people also shop online for large,
heavy products such as televisions, computers, and furniture. These products need to be packed in large amounts of
plastic and paper. This creates a lot of waste.
Another problem caused by online shopping is air pollution. When customers buy products and ask for next-
day delivery, companies often have to send them by air. Airplanes use much more fuel than cars and produce more
carbon dioxide (CO2). When people buy a lot of different things from different online businesses, this creates even
more travel by airplane.
Online product returns are also a problem. For example, an online shoe store may allow customers to return
shoes without extra pay if they are the wrong size. This doubles the packing material and number of airplane trips
required to sell one pair of shoes.
“If people want to protect the environment, they need to think before they shop,” says Prost. “People need to
ask themselves: Is this exactly what I want? Do I really need it tomorrow, or can I wait?” Online stores can also
charge(收费 )customers for returns. This may make people shop more carefully. “Online shopping is fast and
easy,” says Prost, “but we can’t forget the negative effects it has on the environment.”
24.Why does online shopping create a lot of waste?______
A.Because companies charge more for product returns.
B.Because paper use has increased by 33 percent from 1986 to 1997.
C.Because large, heavy products require much packing material.
D.Because people buy too many things they don’t need.
25.Prost probably agrees that______.
A.people should drive to stores to buy things
B.online shopping saves more than shopping in a store
C.people can buy things online without careful consideration
D.online shopping adds pollution to the environment26.What is probably the best title of the passage?______
A.A Good Deal to Make? B.A Cleaner Way to Shop?
C.A New Business to Start? D.A Different Lifestyle to Keep?

24.C 细节题。根据第 4 段第 3 句“But now people also shop online for large, heavy products such as

(2020·清华大学附属中学昌平学校九年级月考)
Fighting corona-virus is an experience that will forever be remembered. Now that I've recovered, I'm sharing
my story because I want people to take this situation seriously. To turn things around, we have to stay home. We
have to fight this battle together — and we have to win.
I think it started on the night my boyfriend and I went to celebrate his sister-in-law's birthday. We didn't thinkanything of it at the time, of course. The news was just beginning to report the spread of COVID-19 in America. I
was still living my life just as I always had — riding the train to work each day, working long hours, and going out
with friends and family.
My boyfriend, Luis, began showing symptoms on Monday, but we thought it was a typical cold. Then it took
me down. It began with a low fever. I felt really weak. At this point, corona-virus had begun to take over New
York. On Tuesday, the headache started. It was so intense that I had to lie down. By the end of the week, everything
hurt. Luis and I went to nearby urgent care. After being examined, I chose to be tested, but I didn't receive my
results until a week later. The doctor sent me home with advice to take Tylenol (泰诺, 感冒药) but said there was
nothing more he could do for me. On the way home, we bought whatever medicine we could find, for the store had
run out of Tylenol.
That Saturday evening was the worst. I had a high fever and I couldn't sleep. I was sweating a lot, and my
knees, hips, and back were in terrible pain. I lost my sense of taste and smell. Then I developed stomach pain.
As I lay there, I was terrified that there wouldn't be enough doctors, nurses, or beds to help me. The thought of
being alone, and possibly dying alone, in the hospital, weighed heavily on my thoughts, and I feared the
uncertainty.
My fever finally broke the following Wednesday. It was such a relief. Two days later, the health department
called me with the news that I'd tested positive for COVID-19.
Looking back, I really wish that people had taken this virus more seriously earlier. I wish people understood
how severe this is. I'm wearing a mask in public from now on. I'm not taking chances. This was really painful, and
we got lucky.
27.What did the author do to fight corona-virus?______
A.She stayed at home and got rest.
B.She fought alone in the hospital.
C.She lived her life just as she always had.
D.She took Tylenol as the doctor suggested.28.How did the author feel about her recovery?______
A.Surprised. B.Lucky. C.Hopeful. D.Proud.
29.Why does the author tell us her story?______
A.To record her unforgettable experience.
B.To teach people how to fight corona-virus.
C.To celebrate her victory over corona-virus.
D.To call on people to take the virus seriously.

(2020·北京海淀区·清华附中九年级月考)
An article just published says some forms of screen time are more harmful to academic(学业的) achievement
than others. The researchers found that viewing television and playing video games appeared to have a negative
effect on academic achievement.Based on an analysis of the data from 58 studies related to screen time and various measures of academic
achievement, it should be noted that some individual studies do find a connection between total screen time and
academics. Too much screen time produces several problems, including academics, sleep, socialization as well as
physical and mental health.
The findings of the new study lend support to the need to look at not only how much time teens spend on the
use of digital devices but what positive and negative effects various devices may have on academic achievement.
The bottom line is that parents and educational professionals should consider supervision(监督) and reduction on
screen time to improve the academic performance of teens, as the academic performance of teens appeared to be
more adversely affected than that of children.
Children may be obsessed with activities like playing games, while teens can even stay up all night texting or
chatting. So the most important rule should be no digital devices of any kind allowed in bedrooms. Also, there
should be no screen time of any type at least one hour before bedtime. The blue light from these devices causes
teens to have trouble falling asleep.
Alternatives(替代品) to digital use can be physical activities or reading. There is an increase in Vitamin D
deficiency(不足) in teens from not getting at least an hour per day of exposure to the sun and they need to spend
more time outside. Spending time reading each day is vital(important) for all family members. It’s great to read the
same book and discuss different thoughts. Research is starting to show that we comprehend more from reading
from books on paper than books on screen.
Besides limiting time and encouraging alternative activities, teens are encouraged to use media creatively. This
might include making videos, recording their own music, or learning to code. Apps to teach office skills or
researching are great. While monitoring and setting limits are the key, parents also need to suggest and encourage
alternative uses of digital devices as well as alternative activities to replace the screen time.
30.The second paragraph is mainly about ______.
A.the influence of the new study B.methods used in the new study
C.the conclusion of the new study D.suggestions given by the new study
31.The underlined word “adversely” probably means “______”.A.in an unfavorable way B.in an unusual way
C.in an unbelievable way D.in an interesting way
32.What can we learn from the passage?______
A.Teens should be banned from using media in most cases.
B.The study focuses on the influence screen time has on teens’ health.
C.Viewing television much can get in the way of good test performance.
D.It’s better to go outside than to read as an alternative activity to screen time.
33.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?______
A.Should Teens Say Goodbye to Screen Time?
B.What Can Be Alternatives to Digital Use for Teens?
C.Can Screen Time Influence Teens’ Performance at School?
D.How Should Teens Change the Way They Use Digital Devices?

Start a conversation. Often neighbors don’t even know each other’s names. However most neighbors enjoy
making small talk with each other in their community. You can ask how their kids are or what they think of the
prices at the supermarket. But the best way to break the ice is to smile, wave, and say hello to your neighbors.
Be friendly to the newcomers. Your new neighbors may be feeling lonely, especially if they’re far from home,
and might expect a friendly face. If they have kids, tell them where the children play in the neighborhood. Introduce
the best places to eat and shop. Invite them over for coffee or tea, give them your phone number, and point to your
house as you say good-bye.
Develop better relationships. Return anything that you borrow from a neighbor, such as tools, in good repairand as soon as you’ve finished with them. Make sure that your car is not blocking their doorway. Such small
actions will help you build up a good relationship with your neighbors.
Make time for your friendship. If you value a friendship with your neighbors, spend time with them. Why not
invite them to a barbecue or weekend party? You can write a card to invite them to your party. Then, you can make
a call to them ahead. In this way, you will know what your neighbors like. You can plan for proper food and music.
Care about the details. In a good relationship, it’s really the little things that count. When your neighbors carry
a lot of things, you can give them a hand. Help to bring in the mail for the elderly neighbor when it rains. If you
care about them, they will give you a surprise, too. The respect for your neighbors' feelings can develop your
relationship with them.
