My morning habit includes shopping at the local convenient store to buy The Daily News. One morning not
long ago, the convenience of the store proved 13 to people stuck in the line behind two small boys. As I went up
to the counter to pay the salesclerk, I noticed the two little guys standing at the front of the line, which was growing
14 by the minutes.
The man behind the counter clearly got annoyed with the boys as his voice rose above the morning chatter in
the store and he said to them, "Look, you 15 nineteen cents more to pay for this candy. If you don't have it, you
won't 16 it."
I watched, as the small boys stood there embarrassedly without any word, just staring at the salesclerk. Their
wide eyes were filled with tears. The people waiting impatiently in the line began to complain loudly, "Just go,
boys!" I shouted 17 the noise, " I've got the nineteen cents. Take this dollar for my 18 and keep the change
towards their candy."
The salesclerk seemed pleasant to have this matter solved. Everyone in the line turned to look at me except the
two small boys who quickly took the candy and left the store.
I handed over the dollar, smiled at the salesclerk and left. As I made my way to my car, a small voice called
out to me, "Hey, Lady!" I turned to see one of the boys standing around the corner of the building. "That was pretty
19 !"
He was gone. I supposed it was a "thank you" of sorts and I was glad to think that I would be the topic of their
small conversation that morning. I was the "cool lady" who saved the day by paying for their candy. It made me
smile to think that my small 20 had brightened their little world, even if for a moment.

In the summer between my first year and second year in college, I was invited to be a coach at a high school
camp. On the first day, when we were dancing and playing games, I noticed a boy under the tree who was small and
thin. His shyness made him appear weak. I walked towards him, introduced myself and invited him to join in the
activities and meet some new people. He quietly replied, “No, I really don’t want to do this.” I could understand
that he was in a new world but I knew it wouldn’t be right to force him, either. Actually, the boy didn’t need a close
talk but a friend.
At lunch the next day, I was leading camp songs when I saw the boy under the tree sitting alone. I tried again
with the same invitation, but he refused once again. That evening I was told the boy’s name was Tommy. Then I
asked campers to pay special attention to the boy and spend time with him when they could.
The days went by and the time came when we had to leave. We held a big, warm party to celebrate the closing
of the camp. All the campers shared their wonderful moments. To my surprise, I found the boy who was always
under the tree dancing joyfully with two girls. I couldn’t believe it was the same person.
In October of my second year, I received a phone call from Tommy’s mother. She told me that Tommy was hit
by a car and killed. I offered my deep sadness. The mother said, “Tommy mentioned you so many times. I want you
to know that he went back to school and made new friends with confidence. You made a difference to Tommy
during his last months.”
At that moment, I realized how easy it was to give a bit of yourself every day. You may never know how much
each kind action may mean to someone else. I hope that everyone can pay attention to their own boy under the tree.
英语 第3页(共9页)21.The writer was a __________ before he went to the high school summer camp.
A.camper B.student C.coach D.dancer
22.From paragraph 4, we can infer that Tommy’s mother felt very __________ to the writer.
A.sorry B.thankful C.excited D.careful
23.From the passage, we can learn that __________.
A.we should talk to people when they need friends
B.we need to pay attention to boys under the trees
C.we should give something useful to strangers
D.we should offer help though it may seem tiny

Early last year, a French art group known as Obvious stated that their artificial intelligence(AI)had
managed to "create" art. Christie's (佳士得拍卖行) was expecting less than $ 10,000. In the end, it was sold at $
432,500!
The painting was the first piece of AI art to have been sold at auction (拍卖). Soon questions rang through the
media: Is this art? Who is the artist? How about the owner? Are machines now creative, too?
All good questions——but too early. The technology is far from advanced, as Obvious suggested, because the
public is completely confused about what AI is, and what it is able to do.
In fact? The painting was just one of the countless artworks AI could produce. It was the team behind Obvious
that chose this one. And they got involved in the whole process. They first programed (编写程序) the AI, and then
they chose 15,000 existing paintings to train the software. Connecting the painting with the algorithm (计算程序)
was just a clever marketing tool. AI did not produce the painting on its own at all.
Dozens of artists are using the same software as Obvious, but none of them are worried about being replaced.
As they build the machine themselves and work with it every day, they know how limited it is. What interests the
artists is co-creation: the way AI lets them go beyond their natural ability.
Artists also laugh at the idea that AI is creative. It certainly creates things, sometimes in new and effective
ways, but it does so without a purpose. It is the artist who explains its output (输出). “You make a fire and produces
interesting shapes, but in the end the fire is not creative. AI is a glorified (美化了的) campfire," said one of the
pioneers of using AI in art.
24.What can we know about the painting sold at auction?
A.It was created by a French artist alone.
B.It was sold at a much lower price than expected.
英语 第4页(共9页)C.It was the first piece of AI art in the world.
D.It attracted a great deal of media attention.
25.Paragraph 4 mainly talks about ________.
A.what kind of paintings AI could create alone
B.How AI produced the painting in its own way
C.Why the painting was connected with the algorithm
D.who made it possible for AI to create the painting
26.It can be inferred from the passage that the AI technology can ________.
A.produce countless artworks B.program on its own
C.think independently D.replace the artists
C
The teacher stood before his class of 30 students and was going to hand out the final exam papers. “I know
how hard you have all worked to get ready for this test.” he said. “And because I know you are all able to
understand these questions. I am ready to offer a B to anyone who would prefer not to take the test.’’
A number of students jumped up to thank the teacher and left the classroom. The teacher looked at the rest
students and said, “Does anyone else want to get a B? This is your last chance.” Two more students decided to go.
Seven students stayed. The teacher then handed out the papers. There were only three sentences on the paper:
Congratulations! You have received an A in this class. Keep believing in yourself.
I never had a teacher who gave a test like that, but I think that it is a test that any teacher could and should
give. Students who do not have confidence in what they have learned are B students at most.
The same is true for students in real life. The A students are those who believe in what they are doing because
they have learned from both successes and failures. They have learned life’s lessons whether from school education
or from events in their lives, and have become better people. Scientists say that by the age of eight, 80% of what we
believe about ourselves has already been formed. You are a big kid now and you realize that you have some
limits(局限). However, there is nothing you can’t do or learn to be. Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to reach the
top of Mount Qomolangma (珠穆朗玛峰) said, “We do not conquer the mountain, but ourselves.”
27.Some students left the classroom because________.
A.they knew the teacher didn’t like them to take the test
B.they were allowed to take another easier exam later on
C.they were happy with the grade the teacher would give them
D.they thought the exam was so easy that they needn’t have a try
英语 第5页(共9页)28.The teacher gave the rest students an A because________.
A.they answered all the questions in the exam correctly
B.they believed themselves in what they had learned
C.they did really very well in the exam
D.they had been working hard for each exam
29.The underlined word “conquer’’ means________in the passage.
A.发现 B.控制 C.探索 D.征服
D
Paris is the city of dreams. If you plan to head to Paris for a study period, then perhaps a little reality check
is in order. But my experience was a romantic one.
I paved my path to Paris through an exchange program. On arrival in Paris, I was constantly reminded of the
official processes I had to complete — forms to be filled in, meetings to attend, the list seemed endless.
Then the real work began. Once classes were underway, I found myself volunteering to do oral presentations
and assignments first, rather than last. This method proved to be very helpful.
Once I had finished class for the week, I had an ever-increasing list of museums to visit, neighborhoods to
explore, and cafes to sit in. Read books about Paris. Talk to locals and other foreigners living there. But the one
thing that reading a book or talking to someone cannot do is to provide you with the experience of wandering Paris
on foot. The people watching, the sounds of the city, the colors as the seasons change, they all add to the ecstasy
that I experience in Paris as an exchange student.
After spending five months wandering through the charming neighborhoods, I fell in love with the atmosphere
that came out from every open door, and with every spoken word. There is something comforting about walking to
the market each Sunday to enjoy the beautiful display of fruits, vegetables and dairy products. There is warmth in
saying bonjour to the passers-by.
On my last day in Paris, I confidently said, "Bonjour Monsieur," as I passed the little store down the street. I
guess the best part about going on exchange in Paris is falling in love with the city in your own way. And I know
mine is unique and special to me, my own little pieces of Paris.
30.What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.The special working experience in Paris.
B.The charming neighborhoods in Paris.
C.Living abroad in Paris as a student.

32.Beyond reading books, which experience would the author treasure most?
A.Enjoying a cup of coffee in his spare time.
B.Greeting people in French in the street.
C.Buying vegetables in the market.
D.Wandering in Paris on foot.
33.According to the passage, what left the author the deepest impression(印象)?
A.The steps he went through before the exchange program.
B.The presentations and assignments he did in class.
C.The academic achievement he made in his study.
D.The special culture he experienced in the city.
