Since our twins began learning to walk, my wife and I have kept telling them that our sliding(推拉式
的)glass door is just a window. The 1 is simple. If we admit it is a door, they’ll want to 2 .
It will drive us crazy. It appears that the kids know the 3 though we have been continually telling
them the other way.
I hate lying to kids. One day they’ll wake up and 4 that everything they’ve always known
about windows is a lie. I wonder if 5 should always tell the truth no matter what result it may lead
to. I have a very strong fear that the lie we’re telling will 6 our children. Windows and doors have
important symbolic(象征性的)meanings. I’m telling them they can’t open what they 7 know is
a door. Later in 8 they may come to a door which could be a good chance. Instead of opening the
door and taking the chance, they just 9 it and wonder, “What if it isn’t a door?” That is, “What if it
isn’t a 10 chance?”
Maybe it’s an unreasonable fear. But the bottom line is that I shouldn’t lie to my kids. So when they
come to other doors in life, they will just open them and walk through.

根据下文“ If we
admit it is a door, they'll want to…It will drive us crazy.
2.B 句意:如果我们承认这是扇门,他们就会想出去。make a mess搞得一团糟;go outside出去;
根据“…we have been continually telling them the other way.”
根据“…everything they’ve always known about windows is
a lie.”
故选A。
5.C 句意:我想知道父母是否应该总是说实话,不管它可能导致什么结果。twins双胞胎;
6.B 句意:我非常担心我们说的谎会误导我们的孩子。change改变;mislead误导;shock使震惊;
punish惩罚。根据下文“…they may come to a door which could be a good chance. Instead ofopening the door and taking the chance, they just…”
7.D 句意:我告诉他们不能打开他们绝对知道是门的东西。secretly偷偷地;hardly几乎不;
根据上文“It appears that the kids know the truth…”
life生活;time时
根据下文“So when they come to other doors in life…”
故选A。
hold of设法和……取得联络;stare at盯着;make use of充分利用。
作者夫妇俩让孩子误认为门不是真的门,而是窗,根据上文“…a door which could be a good
chance.
故选A。

BWhat comes to mind when you hear the phrase “space meat”? It sounds quite weird. But in fact, it
could very well be the future of the human diet.
A Russian astronaut recently “grew” meat aboard the International Space Station. Yes, you read that
right—he grew it using cells(细胞)provided by an Israeli company called Aleph Farms. But in fact, he
was not the first person to create lab-grown(实验室培育的)meat. Dutch scientist Mark Post grew the
first lab meat in 2013.
But why bother growing meat in a lab when we can get the real thing from cows? For one thing, lab-
grown meat is healthier. “We gain greater control over what the meat consists of(由……组成), for
example its fat content,” Post said in an interview with The Atlantic. Lab-grown meat is also free of the
chemicals that are used on farms, such as pesticides(农药)and growth hormones(激素).
Are there other ways to replace(代替)regular meat? McDonalds is trying to do so with the P.L.T,
which stands for plant, lettuce and tomato. The first P.L.T. burgers are already being sold in Canada,
according to the fast food company.
The “meat” in the P.L.T. is made out of Beyond Meat, a plant-based meat substitute(替代品)
created by a company from Los Angeles, US. The company uses pea, rice and bean proteins to produce
patties(肉饼)that look and taste like real meat.
Experts doubt whether these products are healthier than real meat. But they have already proven to be
a success, with several fast food companies already offering such products on their menus, according to
Fox Business.
16.What did the Russian astronaut do recently?

meat.
18.What does the word "bother" in Para 3 mean?
19.According to the story, P.L.T. burgers ________.

As populations keep increasing in cities, city planners look under their feet for answers. With space incities so limited, often the only choice for those who can afford to expand their property is to go
underground.
One idea, which hasn’t been realized yet, is the ‘Earthscraper’ mentioned for Mexico City. This 65-
storey inverted (倒置的) pyramid has been suggested as a way to provide office, shopping and living space
without having to tear down the city’s historic buildings or break its 8-storey height requirement.
Many questions remain to be discussed, however, such as how you provide light, remove waste and
protect people from fire or floods. Some of them have been answered with the construction (建设) of the
Intercontinental Shanghai Wonderland hotel in China. This 336-room resort was built into the rock face of
an 88m-deep, disused quarry (采石场) .
The island city-state of Singapore is also exploring its underground choices. Not only are its Jurong
Rock Caverns being turned into an underground storage facility (装备) for the nation’s oil reserves, but
there are also plans to build an ‘Underground Science City’ for 4,200 scientists to carry out research.
In New York, the Lowline Project is turning a disused subway station into a park. Expected to open in
2021, it uses a system of above-ground light-collection dishes to provide enough light to grow plants, trees
and grass.
21.What’s the reason for people to explore the underground space?
A.People who explore the underground space can afford to expand their property.
B.Scientists have new discoveries when they are exploring the underground space.
C.The population in cities is growing and the space in cities is too small to live in.
D.People explore the underground space because they want new places to live in.
22.Which is NOT the requirement of the buildings in Mexico?
A.People cannot tear down the city’s historic buildings.
B.People should have enough living space in the city.
C.People can have buildings over the height of 65 storeys.
D.People should have buildings within the height requirement.
23.What does the word “them” refer to in Paragraph 3?
A.questions B.light and waste C.people D.fire or floods
24.What can you infer from Paragraph 4?
A.Singapore is building Jurong Rock Caverns and Underground Science City.
B.Singapore is planning its underground buildings because of its small size.
C.Singaporean scientists like underground buildings very much.D.Jurong Rock Caverns is built to satisfy people’s shopping needs.
25.What is the best title for the passage?

根据“This 65-storey inverted (倒置的) pyramid has been suggested as a way to
provide office, shopping and living space without having to tear down the city’s historic buildings
or break its 8-storey height requirement.”

故填to trick。

Dear Mr. White,
The after-school activities are well liked in our school. We can have kinds of activities from 16:30 to
18:00 between Monday and Friday.First, we are supposed to do the homework by ourselves and the teachers will help us with it. After
finishing homework at school, we are able to do what we like doing. Second, further reading and a variety
of clubs are also offered in our school. In this way, we can develop the interests and hobbies. Finally, it is
good for us to do sports because it makes us stronger and healthier.
All in all, the after-school activities are popular in our school and I believe we will have a more
meaningful and colourful school life.
Have a nice day!
Yours,
