四个选项中,选择最佳选项。
How to learn English well.
Well, I don’t know how you all feel, but I
find English really difficult. There are just
so many new words to remember. My
problem is that I can’t remember all the new
words. I’m so worried about it. How can I
improve my English?
Don’t worry, Li Ping. I think it’s very useful
to make word lists for different topics. For
example, you can make lists for fruit,
vegetables and animals. Then you can
review them whenever you have time. The
more you review, the better you will
remember!
I’m learning English and I feel frustrated.
English grammar rules are really confusing.
Sometimes I know all the words in a
sentence but I still can’t understand the
whole sentence. I become nervous when I
speak English, too. What should I do?
Don’t give up, David. As for grammar rules,
I’ve used pictures and tables to help me, for
example with verb tenses. I’ve also tried to
put difficult structures into songs, but I
think the best way to remember grammar
rules is to use them. These methods work
well for me. You can have a try.
21. Li Ping’s problem in English learning is that he ________.
A. can’t remember new words B. can’t understand grammar
C. is nervous when he speaks English D. can’t read new words
22. According to Tina,it’s useful to ________ when we try to remember new words.
A. use pictures B. make word lists C. sing songs D. use new words
23. David thinks that ________ are difficult.
A. new words B. long sentences C. grammar rules D. topics

学科网(北京)股份有限公司In Ben Elton’s book Gridlock, aliens (外星人) come to our world to learn about people. They look at the
places where we live and work, and how we travel. But they don’t understand cars. They see that every morning
hundreds of millions of people get into big boxes. These boxes take people many kilometers to their workplace.
But often, the big boxes can’t move because there are so many of them. Then, in the evening, the people get into
their boxes and slowly drive home again.
The aliens think this is really strange. Why don’t people travel in the faster boxes they call trains or buses? Or
live near their workplace? Do they like to sit in boxes for hours? Or aren’t they very smart?
The aliens are right. Why don’t we live near our workplace?
It’s often because houses are too expensive in the city. People who lived in the city before have to live outside
it now. But many jobs are in the city center. Cheaper houses in cities are a possible answer to traffic problems.
24. Why do aliens come to the Earth? ________
A. To help with traffic problems. B. To learn about humans’ life.
C. To take over the Earth. D. To fight with humans.
25. The underline words “big boxes” in the first paragraph mean ________.
A. spaceships B. workplace C. houses D. cars
26. Aliens think humans can ________ to avoid traffic problems.
A. build more roads B. create more cars C. take faster trains or busesD. stay longer in car
A Girl Who Loves Animals
When Abbi Hickman was just a little girl, she made friends with many animals. Chickens, cats, dogs, rabbits,
and sometimes goats were just some of the animals she cared for. At the age of nine, Abbi went to the Tracy Animal
Center to adopt (收养) Sheldon, her cat. In the center, she saw that the animals did not have enough food and they
lived in poor conditions. Abbi knew that she must do something to help those animals.
For the last three years, she has held different activities to collect money for the Tracy Animal Center. She has
collected more than$30,000 resulting in a better home for the animals.
“The center gets the money and pays for the vet (兽医) care and food. It’s nicer and they have more space. It’s
cleaner. It is far better, a hundred percent better,” Abbi says.
To show Abbi has done something excellent to protect animals, she was named the 2015 ASPCA (美国防止虐

四、阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
“Fall” and “Autumn”
What season is it in October? If you ask people from UK, they will tell you it’s “autumn”. But if you go to US,
you will find that people use “autumn” or “fall”.
According to Dictionary.com, both words have been around for a long time, but neither of them was first to
describe this season. During this season, crops would become ripe(成熟) and farmers would have a big harvest.
So in Old English, this season was simply called “harvest”.
Then, in the 1600s, more people left their farms and moved to cities. With fewer people farming, the word
“harvest” became less useful. English speakers needed a different name for the season. They knew leaves fell from
trees during the season, so people started calling it “the fall of the leaf”, or “fall” for short.
But at the end of the 1600s, autumn, from the French word “autompne” and the Latin “autumnus”, came to
English. “Fall” as the word for this season disappeared slowly.
At the same time, people in UK were making their first trip to North America. They brought the words “fall”
and “autumn” with them. That’s why today Americans have two names for one season.
