moon stands for being together with friends and family.
Also, many popular legends and poems are about the moon. They all show how Chinese people enjoy the
moon.
The most famous legend is about a lady—Chang’e. Long ago, people said there were 10 suns in the sky.
Her husband Hou Yi shot down nine of them. The goddess gave him a magic pill as a reward. This pill would
make him live forever. However, Chang’e took the pill by accident. Then she flew to the moon and lived there
forever.
Another legend tells the story of a woodcutter (伐木工) named Wu Gang. He had to cut down trees because
he once made the Jade Emperor (玉皇大帝) angry. But the magic tree kept growing back. So he had to work
endlessly.
The moon inspires (启发) people to write poems. For example, Su Shi of the Song Dynasty wrote the
famous poem during the Mid-Autumn Festival: So let us wish that man will live long as he can! Though milesapart, we’ll share the beauty she displays.

D
From my father, I have learned a lot. And I'm very thankful to him. I remember when I was a child, my
father always got up very early, quietly put on his clothes and went off to work. To arrive in time to open his tiny
store at 8:30, he needed to leave our apartment at 6:30. After all (毕竟), he had to take a bus and then the subway.
The last journey was a long walk through a neighborhood, much of which was full of the smell of rubbish. I
learned it is very important to work. No excuse.
When I was 12, I would, on some Saturdays, go to my father's store to help out. After helping set up the
outside clothing display, for the rest of the day, I'd watch to make sure no one stole anything. When I noticed
someone looking unusual or strange, I would look the person in the eye, smile and say, "May I help you?" Usually
that worked, but sometimes, someone would run off with something. The first time, I ran after the thief but my
father shouted, "Martin, stop! There is no need to do that. "It's true that safety is more important than money.
After 10 years of hard work, he saved up enough money to buy his first car, a cheap one-he wouldn't buy
one until he could afford to pay for it without borrowing money. I learned: buy only what you can afford. Buying
necessary food and clothing won't make us go into debt (债务). The unnecessary things won't give us happiness,
which comes from achievement(成就) only.
66.What shop did the author's father own?A.A bookshop. B.A coffee shop. C.A clothing shop. D.A food shop.
67.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A.The author ran after thieves many times.B.The author thanked his father a lot.
C.The author's father worked very hard. D.The author's father made some money.
68.What is the passage mainly about?
A.How to live a happy life. B.What makes a person successful.
C.The help the author got from his father. D.What the author learned from his father.

Can plants eat people? Probably not, but there are many plants that eat meat. Some of them are big and they
can eat small animals. One famous meat eating plant is the Venus flytrap(捕蝇草).
The Venus flytrap is a very strange plant. It grows in dry parts of the United States. Its leaves are like the
pages of a book, they can open and close very quickly. Inside the leaves, there are three small hairs. If a fly(苍
蝇)touches one of the hairs, the leaves will close quickly. The fly cannot get out. In about half an hour, the leaves
press the fly until it is dead. Then the plant covers the fly. Slowly the plant eats the fly.
Why do plants do it?
Most plants get what they need from the sun, the air and the ground. In some places, the ground is very
poor. It doesn’t have all these important things, but animal meat has a lot of these important things. So some plants
eat meat to get what they need. Let’s hope that some of the bigger plants don’t get the same idea!
69.The Venus flytrap grows in ________.
A.most parts of the world B.some parts of Africa
C.dry parts of the United States D.wet parts of England
70.What will happen if a fly touches one of the hairs in the Venus flytraps leaves?
A.The leaves will close very fast. B.The leaves will eat the fly.
C.The leaves will kill the fly. D.The leaves will play with the fly.
71.Most of the plants get what they need from ________.
A.the sun B.the air C.the ground D.all of the above
72.Why do some plants eat animal meat?
A.Because plants are dangerous to animals.
B.Because animals are dangerous to plants.
C.Because plants want to get what they need from animal meat.D.Because plants want to protect themselves against animals.
