Step 1 Warming up
Review
Ask Ss to pair up and discuss the question: What are you supposed
/ expected to do when you go to the USA / Switzerland?
They can answer the question from these aspects: greetings, time,
visiting friends, making plans with friends, dressing, etc.
Step 2 Presentation & Practice
Grammar Focus
Ask Ss to read the sentences in the box and tell them that they
can make suggestions using the following structures:
It’s+adj. (+ for / of sb. ) +to do sth.
be supposed to do sth. / be expected to do sth.
be supposed to的用法
be supposed to do sth.意为“应该做某事”,用来表示劝告、建议、义
务、责任或按规定、习惯、安排等应当做某事。其中 to为不定式符
号, 后跟动词原形,可与should do sth.互换,两者多用于口语中。意
1思上,be supposed to do sth.也等同于ought to do sth. ,但后者使用较
少,多用于正式文体中。be supposed to do sth.的否定形式为be not
supposed to do sth.
be expected to的用法
be expected to意为“预计; 预料”, 用来表示预料之中会发生的事, to
是动词不定式符号, 后接动词原形。
It + be + adj. (+ for / of sb. ) + to do sth.句型
It is + adj. + for sb. to do sth.意为“对某人来说做某事是……
的。”It为形式主语, 真正的主语是后面的动词不定式 (短语) 。

In groups of three, ask Ss to come up with two pieces of advice
for each of the items in the box. Give Ss up to 10 minutes to
discuss, then ask them to switch groups. Tell Ss to ensure that
none of their original group members are in their new group.
Get them to exchange their answers with their new group
members and compare how many pieces of advice overlap and
how many differ.
