Step 1 Warm-up & Revision
The T can play an English song about magic words and
encourage Ss to have a discussion. The T may use the prompt:
Do you often use these magic words in our daily life?
Do you think they work well?
The T can guide Ss to review what they have learned by asking
them to describe the picture of asking way. Pay attention to the
accuracy of Ss’ words and remind Ss to use the target
structure:
Excuse me, do you know where I can take the subway?
Could you please tell me how to get the metro station?
1 Then Ss can be asked to make some conversations about asking
for directions with partners according to the given map. Be
polite!
The teacher can observe Ss’ performance and offer feedback
and make assessment.
Step 2 Grammar learning
Grammar Focus
The T can ask Ss to read aloud the sentences. The T can
pay attention to their pronunciation. Then the T can present
all the questions in two ways: direct way and indirect way
so that Ss can find the rules of the target structure. For
example:
Where can I buy some medicine?
Excuse me, do you know where I can buy some medicine?
Then the T can introduce the usage of the target grammar
structure from several aspects. Focus Ss’ attention to the changes
of tense and word order of the objective clause.
Step 3 Presentation & Practice

The T make Ss read the sentences in 4a. Then the T can
ask several questions to guide Ss to have a discussion.

Ss finish the tasks in 4a and check their answers in pairs
to correct them. The T can invite some Ss to share their
answers.
