It’s a science fiction movie which is also a comedy. The movie stars are two British actors, Simon Perg and Nick Frost. It’s the story of two friends, Graeme and Clive, who are on holiday in the US. They are science fiction fans 试卷第2页,共3页and they are visiting all the places that they know about from their science fiction magazines. Near Area 51, they meet an alien called Paul. Paul is running away from the FBI. He asks Graeme and Clive to help him and they agree. The characters of Graeme and Clive are interesting because they change during the movie. At the start, they’re quiet and shy. However, during their adventures (冒险) they become brave and strong. The movie is really about the relationship between Graeme, Clive and Paul, although there is also a love story. In my opinion, this is a moving and exciting movie, although it’s also a comedy. The special effects (效果) are fantastic. However, the best thing about the movie is the acting. All in all, it’s a really enjoyable comedy. 16.What kind of movie does the writer watch last week? A.A scary movie. B.A cartoon movie. C.An action movie. D.A science fiction movie. 17.What can we know from the text? A.There is no love story in the movie. B.Clive is brave and strong in the beginning. C.The main actors in the movie are American. D.“Paul” is the name of the movie and a character. 18.What does the writer think of this movie? A.He loves it. B.He can’t stand it. C.He doesn’t like it. D.He doesn’t mind it. B What are simple machines? They are inventions that people invented thousands of years ago to make their lives easier. Do you know that we use those same simple machines every day in our modern world? Let’s look at some of our modern inventions that are in fact simple machines! The Lever There are many modern inventions that are levers. A pair of scissors is a lever. Also, when you ride on a seesaw (跷跷板) in the playground, you’re using a lever. The board rests on a point in the middle. When you push down on one end of the board, the other end goes up. The Wheel and Axle A wheel and axle (车轴) is a simple machine, but important for many modern inventions. An axle goes intothe middle of a wheel, making it easy to turn. Without the wheel and axle, we wouldn’t have cars, trucks and bicycles. They all use a wheel and axle. The Ramp A ramp is a flat (平的) surface that has one high end and one low end. This simple machine makes it easier and safer to go up or down. People in wheelchairs use ramps to go in and out of buildings. There are many ramps in nature, too. They are called hills and mountains! The Wedge A wedge is like two ramps put together so that one edge (边缘) is sharp. You might ask, “When would I need a wedge?” If you enjoy eating, you need one almost every day! A knife and a fork are both wedges which cut into food. So is an axe (斧子), which people use to cut wood in to pieces. 19.Why did people invent simple machines in the past? A.To create modern inventions. B.To change people’s thoughts. C.To make lives more convenient. D.To be used in the modern world. 20.Which of the following is a ramp? A. B. C. D. 21.What can you know from the text? A.Scissors and knives are both levers. B.Ramps help people get into wheelchairs. C.The wheel and axle is a modern invention. D.Wedges can be used to cut wood into pieces. 22.What’s the purpose of this text? A.To tell readers how to use modern inventions. B.To introduce some simple machines to readers. C.To give readers advice on how to live easier lives. D.To teach readers how to invent modern inventions. C ①I’m Dan. I started running half marathons(马拉松) in the 1970s. I’m 78 now. I’ve been doing them for 试卷第4页,共3页nearly fifty years and I still get the same excitement at the start of each race as I always have. I don’t do as many as I did. I used to run around 30 races every year and in my thirties I got quite good at them. I think my personal best was about 1 hour and 17 minutes, which was only ten minutes over the world record then. These days I do about 10 races a year and my time is quite a bit slower. At my age you need a lot more preparation and my body doesn’t recover as quickly, but I never give up. ②There are two main reasons why I still run half marathons. Firstly, it means I’m keeping myself healthy. My doctor told me that I’m healthier than most 70-year-olds. But I think the real reason why I love the sport so much is what other people bring to me. I meet other runners and I’ve made many good friends over the years, and the most amazing thing is that all the people along the sides of the streets will cheer me on. I get more and more support. ③I also spend quite a lot of time visiting schools to get children interested in doing the sport. I think it’s really important to start at an early age. The earlier you start, the easier it is to keep on. The kids are always really enthusiastic (热情的) and they ask me lots of questions. Many of them can’t believe that I’m the same age as their grandfathers. Sometimes I challenge them to a five-kilometre race. There aren’t many of them that can beat me! 23.How does Dan introduce his experience in Paragraph 1? ________ A.By asking questions. B.By giving examples. C.By using numbers. D.By showing his plans. 24.What does Dan enjoy most about the half marathon races? ________ A.Being cheered on by people. B.Beating younger people. C.Meeting up with old friends. D.Trying to go quicker each time he races. 25.Why does Dan visit schools? ________ A.To race the children. B.To encourage children to do sport. C.To pick up his grandchildren. D.To show that old people can still do things. 26.Which of the following might Dan write in his autobiography (自传)? ________ A.I’ve always loved running. I’ve loved the way it’s kept me healthy and I’ve loved the way it’s brought me into connecting with so many people.B.In my later years, running became a really important part of my life. It kept my body and mind younger and helped me fight against getting older. C.When I was younger, I was a really competitive runner, but as I got older, I was still trying to run and I really cared how fast I went. D.As got older, running became more difficult, I thought about giving it up, but my doctor told me to keep going. I'm happy he did and these days. I love encouraging young people to start running.
