One day after school, I went to the teachers’ office to see my teacher, but nobody was there. I was about to
leave when I noticed a piece of paper on the floor. I picked it up and saw the words “FINAL-TERM
EXAMINATION” at the top. I put the paper into my schoolbag secretly and ran out of the room.
After I came back home, I took out the paper quickly. It was the exam paper of my worst subject, history. I
felt excited. My heart beat fast. I took out my history book and started working on the answer. I had never
answered any questions so seriously.
On the day of the history exam, I went into the exam hall confidently. When the paper was sent to me, I
dreamed of getting the highest mark in the whole grade and could not help smiling. “My history teacher always
encouraged me to work hard and get better grades, but I let him down time and time again. This time I will give
him a big surprise,” I thought.
When the teacher said we could start, I turned the paper over. To my surprise, all the questions were different.
Later I felt nervous. In the end, I almost left the paper undone. After the exam, I ran to the toilet, took out the
paper and carefully read it from the top. Oh! It was last year’s exam paper, I read all the questions but I hadn’t
read the date.
This is a lesson in which I know I have to put my feet on the ground. I regretted doing such a silly thing.
After that, I told my teacher the truth and I promised to be honest. From then on, I worked harder than ever before.
1. Why did the writer go to the teachers’ office?
A. To take an exam. B. To see his teacher.C. To get his schoolbag. D. To ask some questions.
2. How did the writer feel when he first saw all the questions were different?
A. Crazy. B. Excited. C. Nervous. D. Surprised.

A. I’m glad that I did very well in the exam.

C. When I turned over the paper, I couldn’t help smiling.
D. My teacher asked me to go to his office. I was very happy.

If you visit some villages in the English countryside, you might be lucky to see Morris dancing (莫里斯舞).
People are not sure how old this kind of dancing is. Some think it started 2,000 years ago, but most agree that
Morris dancing is probably about five centuries old.
Many agree that it celebrates traditional English farm life on holidays. Morris dances wear traditional
costumes. Usually, this is a white shirt, a bridge jacket, a hat and small bell called “jingle bells”. There are
different styles of Morris dancing from different places around England.
In Cotswold Morris, the dances usually carry white handkerchiefs (手绢) and sticks, which they hit as they
dance. Each dance has six male dances in Cotswold style, with a musician who plays a pipe (管乐器) or a violin.
Morris dancing styles from the north of England often use swords (剑) instead of sticks, and dances can look
a little like soldiers, which is different from southern styles. It is common in this style for men and women to
dance together.
Border Morris comes from the west of England, near the border with Wales. Dancers in this style usually
wear normal clothes decorated with pieces of colorful paper, and sometimes they put black paint on their faces.
Morris dancing is an old English tradition but it’s facing a big crisis (危机). As the years go by, fewer and
fewer young people join Morris dancing groups. Some worry that if nothing is done to change this, the tradition
will die out.
1. What do we know about Morris dancing according to the passage?

B. It’s quite common for visitors to see Morris dancing in London.
C. People around England have Morris dancing in the same way.D. Morris dancing is a way to celebrate traditional English farm life.
2. What’s the difference of Morris dancing between the north and the south?
A. They move in different ways. B. They carry different tools.
C. They use different instruments. D. They wear different clothes.

A. There are fewer Morris dancing styles in England.
B. There are fewer Morris dancing teachers in England.
C. There are fewer young people joining Morris dancing.
D. There are fewer young people watching Morris dancing.
4. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A. ①/②/③④⑤/⑥ B. ①/②③④⑤/⑥ C. ①/②③/④⑤/⑥ D. ①/②③④/⑤/⑥

This week, we answer a question from a listener who writes: I work with some native speakers of English. I
want to practice speaking with them so I’ll improve my English. But sometimes, I get nervous, so our
conversation ends quickly. How can I talk with these friends for a long time?
You are right. It is not always easy to keep a conversation going in English. You might not be sure about what
to say. Or maybe you are afraid that your pronunciation is not good.
First, remember the importance of listening. Listen to the other person carefully. So that you can ask a
follow-up question. For example, let's say the other person tells you, "I just got back from a trip to Canada." You
can follow up with a question using Who, What, Where, When, Why, or How: Where did you go in Canada? What
was your favorite place there? How was the food there? If you want to keep a conversation going, it's a good idea
to ask questions that cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”. If the other person asks you a “yes” or “no”
question, try to give a longer answer to help keep the conversation going. For example, a friend might ask, “Hey,
have you seen the new Star Wars movie?” You could just answer, “No, I haven't.” Or, you could say more. You
could answer, “No, but I plan to see it soon. How about you?”
Do not worry about your pronunciation. If your pronunciation is a little different, the other person will still
understand your message if you try speaking slowly and clearly. When you're travelling in an English-speaking
country and have some free time, be brave and speak in English with someone who does not look too busy. You
may make a new friend.
OK, that's it. We would like to hear from you. Please understand that we cannot answer all of the questions
our listeners send us.1. Which problem does the listener mainly face according to this passage?
A. He can't understand what the native speakers say.
B. He always get nervous when he listens to English.
C. He always worries about his pronunciation when speaking.
D. He doesn't know how to continue his conversation in English.
2. In the third paragraph, how does the adviser support his suggestion?
A. By explaining reasons. B. By giving examples.
C. By comparing facts. D. By using what other say.
3. According to this passage, which of the following statement is RIGHT?
A. It's a good way to ask "WH" questions to keep the conversation going successful.
B. Asking questions that are answered with a “yes” or “no” can help keep on talking.
C. When you talk with others, you should make sure your pronunciation is prefect.
D. You don't need to listen to others carefully to communicate with others well.
4. What is this passage probably from?
A. A magazine. B. A radio program. C. A TV program. D. A newspaper.
