Once upon a time there was no tea at all in England. People there used to drink a light beer(啤酒). No coffee
or milk but large glasses of beer stood on the breakfast table!
When tea was first brought to England, an old couple got some as a special treat. But they did not know how
it should be used. They cooked the leaves in hot water, and spread them on a piece of bacon(熏肉) which they
were going to have for dinner. They ate the leaves, and threw the tea away! However, tea is becoming as popular
as coffee and milk in England today.
Tea is the leaf of a plant which grows widely in China, Japan and some other countries. Tea farmers usually

What are some of the biggest scientific discoveries in the history of humans? How have they changed ourlives? Are all the scientists born with creativity?
There was once a famous scientist who made several important discoveries. Once he was asked how he was
able to be so creative. He replied that it all came from an experience he had with his mother at the age of 2. He
was trying to take a bottle of milk out of the fridge. But the bottle was too slippery and he dropped it. The kitchen
was covered in milk.
When his mother came into the kitchen，instead of shouting at him or punishing him，she said，"Robert，
what a great and wonderful mess you have made！I have never seen such a huge puddle（水坑）of milk. Would
you like to play in the milk for a few minutes before we clean it up?"
So he did. After a few minutes，they cleaned it up together. Then his mother said，"This was a failed
experiment（实验）in how to carry a big bottle of milk with two small hands. Let's go out in the backyard and
fill the bottle with water and see if you can find a way to carry it without dropping it.”
The little boy learned that if he held the bottle at the top near the mouth with both hands，he could carry it
without dropping it. What a wonderful lesson！
The scientist then added that it was at that moment that he knew he didn't need to be afraid to make mistakes.
He learned that mistakes are just chances to learn something new which is after all, what scientific experiments

DInk wash painting (水墨画) is an old and beautiful Chinese art. This special drawing technique is created
with a brush, dipped into ink, then in water before being painted onto rice paper or silk. As you can see, the
paintings are created just in black and white. It is said that the technique was invented by an artist named Wang
Wei.
Ink wash paintings often feature trees, flowers, landscapes, animals, birds and people. Also, they often go
with Chinese poems. The painting style does not put high importance on a precise description of a real scene or
object. They are often improvised (即兴的) works from beautiful scenery (风景). Therefore, this type of painting
is hard to copy. Today there are many new Chinese artists that use the traditional Chinese ink wash technique to
draw new sceneries and pictures.
The first ink wash animation (动画) in China came out in 1960. It’s called Little Tadpole Looking for
Mummy. All the animals, plants and rocks in the film are drawn with ink and brush. The film is about 15 minutes
long. But it took lots of work. Without computers, the artists had to draw everything by hand. One second of
animation needs 24 pictures! Little Tadpole Looking for Mummy won prizes at home and abroad. From then on,
ink wash painting and animation becomes more popular in China. People in the world get to know more about ink
