forward to having fun at the camp. But I was quite nervous about it.
“I’ll hate it,’’ I told my parents. “I’ll get homesick. I’ll look stupid at winter sports, and everyone will laugh at
me.”
“You might be surprised, Jessica,” said Mom. “The only way to find out is to try.”
“It’s what growing up is all about,” Dad added.
When arriving at the camp, we were asked to share one fear.
“I’m afraid I'll be homesick,” someone said.
I wasn’t the only one! I began to relax. After lunch, we were asked to ski down to the field. I skied carefully,
but I still hit a piece of ice and fell down.
“Ha! Ha!” Behind me, somebody started laughing. I looked back to see who was making fun of me. To my
surprise, I saw a girl in the same awkward (尴尬的) position as I was in. “I thought I’d be bad at this, but I’m
worse than I expected!” she said.

At dinner time, I was so happy to be talking about interesting things that I forget to feel homesick.
The next day, I was chosen to try ski jumping first, even though I didn't want to. But when my feet left the
ground, I felt I was flying and it was wonderful.

The usual way of showing one's love is expressing it with words, but my dad is different. He’s the one who
cared so much for me and showed love in so many other ways than the usual ways of other adults.
In my earlier years I would wake my dad up and say, “Dad, I'm hungry. Could you make me something to
eat” “Sure, what a question. How about a piece of steak and some eggs?” He would answer happily. “Well, I'm not
sure, it would be too much trouble,” would say without listening to my stomach. “No worries,” would be his reply
with joy, as he always answered me that way.
Sunday is my dad's only rest day but he would come up to me and say. “How about a game of cricket?” “Yes,
Dad! That will be great,” I would reply happily. On the days when he was too tired to play, he would still say,“Yeah, sure! I’ll play.” My Mom would come and call me to the side and explain that my Dad was just too tired to
play but could not say no to me. He always had and has time for me.
As time flew by I started to become a teenager with independence and what seemed to me as a childish game
over food became a stupid idea. On the days he didn't work he would come to me. "Give Dad a smile," he would
say encouragingly. “Dad, at the moment I can’t smile.” I would say. “Please. Just one smile and then I won't ask
again,” he would playfully. Looking at his funny face. I couldn't help smiling.

Many parents have heard the term “social-emotional development,” but what does it mean? Put simply, it
refers to the gradual growth of children’s ability to “experience, manage and express” their feelings, build
relationships and explore their environment. “It’s understanding how our bodies and minds feel and think in
relationship to the world around us,” says Dr. Mary Hadley, who has spent 15 years helping adults and children
communicate.1
Social-emotional development changes as a child grows. A mother providing a feeling of safety for her baby
begins the child’s process of healthy social-emotional development. As children enter school, they develop the
ability to control their emotions and work well with others. Just as children never give up learning, social-
emotional development doesn’t stagnate.
In primary school, students get themselves involved in play-based skills, learn to express themselves and
practice empathy(共情) for others. Development in middle school looks similar, Hadley says. “We can help
students to understand that everyone experiences emotions, both good and bad. And the way their bodies and
minds feel will affect their social communication.” she says. Yet, while middle-schoolers can express their
feelings, they also sometimes hide their thoughts, Roberson-Moore says. This can raise some challenges. “At the
high school level, relationships with groups become very important,” says Kelly Oriard, a family expert(专家). As
teenagers understand where they fit in the world, it is normal and healthy for them to build relationships outside of
their family.
Building Social-Emotional Skills at Home
When it comes to social-emotional development, parents are a primary resource for children, and experts say
there are many ways to help.
First, share your feelings with your children, and accept their feelings as well, Hadley says. For example, you
can say to a shouting child, “Your voice is loud. You must be very mad that it’s time to turn off the TV.” Second,
prioritize(优先考虑) family time. Even as children grow older, they can benefit from family time. Eating meals or
working on a project together can open up time for conversation, which support your child’s emotional health.
Third, encourage your children’s interests. You may not join in their football practice, but try to listen and take
interest in the activities they value. This can lead to a healthy connection. “Raising healthy children truly takes a
village,” Hadley says. “School teachers and social workers are also wonderful resources.”
1. Which could be the best heading for Paragraphs 2 & 3?
A. How Social-Emotional Development Helps
B. When Social-Emotional Development Changes
C. Why Social-Emotional Development Matters in Daily Life
D. What Social-Emotional Development Looks Like over Time
2. Which of the following might Mary Hadley agree?
A. Prioritizing our time is part of social-emotional development.
B. Raising healthy children needs lots of efforts and resources.
C. Children prefer hiding their feelings to expressing directly.D. Relationships with groups are important at primary level.
3. What does the underlined word “stagnate” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Stop. B. Speed. C. Appear. D. Progress.
4. Why does the writer write this passage?
A. To advise teachers to understand their students better.
B. To encourage children to learn more social skills at school.
C. To offer experts some ideas to solve social-emotional problems.
D. To help parents know more about social-emotional development.

本部分共5题, 共20分。根据题目要求, 完成相应任务。
四、阅读表达 (第1-3题每题2分, 第4题4分, 共10分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Sketchnotes, also known as visual(可视的)notes, are visual records of information or an experience using
drawings and written text. Sketchnoting creates something new and powerful by using both drawings and words.
They work at the same time to help achieve understanding.
There are two types of sketchnotes. One is lecture-based.
Lecture-based sketchnotes are taken when speakers actively share new ideas or information with listeners,
such as in school classes or at work meetings. The other type is experience-based. Such sketchnotes are takenwhen you experience or learn something personally, like traveling or trying a new restaurant. Lecture-based
sketchnotes need to be taken live in the moment, while experience-based sketchnotes need to be taken later or
after the fact.
Sketchnoting is for anyone who can write. The drawings are all about being recognizable. You don’t have to
be an artist to sketchnote. All you have to do is to master a few basics like the dot(点), the line, and shapes, and
then put them together to make simple pictures. Our brains remember the picture and what’s happening in it, not
the beauty of the art. So no worries!
And what tools do you need to sketchnote? All you need is paper and a pen! You can use whatever paper you
want. Remember, we’re not showing off our art skills, so the tools don’t have to be perfect. If you’re just starting
out, I suggest you start small: post-its or index cards are perfect! As for pens, quick-drying pens are good choices
because the ink(墨水)looks darker than most ball-points and doesn’t take as long as a brush pen to dry.
Sketchnoting offers lots of benefits. It can help you center on a task while listening, and help those who have
trouble spelling take notes because they can draw! Also, many studies have shown that pairing related pictures
with text helps you remember and recall better. Besides, it activates different areas of our brains for better
learning. Moreover, it allows self-described “non-artists” to be creative. By the way, it’s easy to read and fun to
look at.
So just get started with sketchnoting! If you’d like to jump in with learning, you can find many more useful
tips online. You’ll be sketchnoting in no time!
1. How does sketchnoting create something new and powerful?
__________________________________________
2. What are the two types of sketchnotes?

【答案】
Good morning, everyone. Our school is starting an “Empty Plate” Campaign to fight against food waste. I
hope we all take an active part in this meaningful campaign. By eating up the food on plates, we can not only save
food and money but also produce less waste.
To stop wasting food, we can find out what food students like most and help our school to improve the menu.
At lunch, don't ask for more food than you can eat. We can also put up posters to spread the idea of saving food.
Please start with ourselves now and we can make a difference.
Thank you!

【答案】
It’s natural for us to feel stressed. My stress mainly comes from my exams. I try different ways to reduce it. I
often share my problems and feelings with my parents or friends. Making a well-organized study plan can also
help me feel less worried. Sometimes I take time out to exercise to get relaxed. In these ways, I feel confident to
face my exams.
