三、阅读理解(30 分)

Should friends be different or the same? We asked some people what they thought.
I like to have friends who are like me. I’m quieter than most of the kids in my class, and my best
friend Jack is quiet too. There are some differences, though. I’m smarter than Jack. He’s stronger than
me.
It’s not necessary (必要的) to be the same. I like to have friends who are different from me. My best
friend Leo is taller and more outgoing than me. We both like sports, but Leo is more athletic than me.
He always beats me at tennis. Also, I’m quieter than he is.
I don’t really care. My best friend is Carol. Carol is very funny and more outgoing than I am. But we
both like doing the same things. I don’t think differences are important in a friendship.

too.”
When they arrived at Grandma and Grandpa’s house, Grandpa was waiting at the door. “Welcome! I made
your favorite tomato soup.” he said. Tom ran to him and gave him a hug. “I brought chess, Grandpa!” he said. Lily

Mangroves (红树林) are special trees that grow in coastal areas. They look like “guardians” of the sea—their
long roots not only hold the soil together but also protect coasts from storms and waves. Besides, these forests are
home to many animals, such as fish, birds and crabs.
However, mangroves are in danger now. Over the past 50 years, about 35% of the world’s mangroves have
disappeared. One main reason is human activities: people cut down mangroves to build farms, ports or houses.
Another reason is pollution—oil spills and plastic waste damage the water and kill the plants and animals living
there.
Luckily, more and more countries have realized the importance of mangroves and started to protect them. In
China, for example, local governments set up nature reserves to stop people from cutting down the trees. Volunteers
also help clean the beaches near mangroves and teach visitors about their role. With these efforts, some mangrove
areas are growing again.
Mangroves show us how closely humans and nature are connected. To save them is to protect our own home.

五、任务型阅读(10 分)
The pitcher plant (捕蝇草) is one of the most amazing plants in the world. It is a different kind of plant
because it eats meat—mostly insects!
This plant is not only amazing but also very clever. Its leaves are in the shape of a pitcher, a deep cup with a
cover. It has a sweet smell that attracts (吸引) insects. When an insect comes close, it slips (滑) into the pitcher and
falls into a special liquid (液体) inside. The plant then uses this liquid to get the food from the insect.
Pitcher plants are important in their ecosystem (生态系统). They help to control the number of insects.
However, in some places, they are in danger because people are taking their living places. This is the problem they
are facing now.
Scientists are now working to protect these interesting plants. We must understand that every plant, even the
ones that seem a little strange, plays a role in nature. Learning about them helps us see how connected life really is.
