Four After-school Clubs Worth Your Time

Starting high school means more than classes and homework. Joining a club is one of the easiest ways to settle into campus life and meet new friends. Here are four popular choices for freshmen.

Debate Society

If you enjoy sharing opinions and thinking on your feet, the Debate Society is for you. Members research teenage topics and practise twice a week. The club will enter the city youth debate in November, so new members should sign up before Friday. No experience is needed, but confidence in speaking is a plus. Room 301, Teaching Building. Meetings: Wed. and Fri. , 4:30—5:30 p.m.

Green Campus Volunteers

This group takes responsibility for the environment around school. Volunteers clean up the playground, plant flowers and run the recycling programme. A two-hour shift at the weekend counts toward your community service hours. Sign up at the student office, and you may register for any single weekend. Meet at the school gate every Saturday, 9:00 a.m.

Adventure Club

Led by an outdoor expert, the club teaches survival skills, from map reading to first aid. Its first autumn trip is a one-day hike on October 18th. Members should be physically prepared and wear strong shoes. The trip is suitable for students who prefer action to sitting indoors. Sign-up form on the school website.

Literature Workshop

Love reading and writing? Members discuss short stories, exchange reading notes and publish their work in the school magazine, whose editor attends every meeting. Advanced readers are welcome, yet the workshop is open to anyone curious about books. Library Reading Room, every Thursday, 4:40 p.m.

原文明确提到“publish their work in the school magazine”。

解题线索在文章标题“Four After-school Clubs Worth Your Time”以及首段最后一句“Here are four popular choices for freshmen”。
