【答案】7. A 8. C
【解析】
【原文】Have you ever imagined that there could be a place for robots in education? British education expert
Anthony Seldon thinks robots will show and explain information to students, while teachers will be like assistants.
However, I believe that robot teachers will never be able to communicate with others like humans do.
One thing is certain, though. A robot teacher is better than no teacher at all. In some parts of the world, there aren’t
enough teachers. That problem could be partly solved by robots because they can teach anywhere and won’t get
tired.
Will robot teachers take the place of human teachers? Certainly not. But people should think more about how
robots can help teachers. If robots could help teachers mark homework and write reports, teachers would have more
time and energy to do their jobs better. What’s your opinion?

The Lost Airplane
“We’re leaving!” Dad called.
Cody was about to race downstairs when he noticed the tiny airplane on his cousin’s desk. “It would be fun to
take it to the beach,” he thought. “I don’t think Dave will mind.” Cody put the airplane into the pocket of his
swimsuit.
On the beach, Cody made a runway (机场的跑道) in the sand. Then he took out the airplane and imagined it
taking off.
“Cody, are you coming with us?” Dad called. Dad and Uncle Jeff couldn’t wait to go surfing.
Cody took his bodyboard and ran after them. They rode wave after wave. Soon Cody’s teeth were chattering
from the cold. He was glad when they decided to head back to their place on the sand.
,
Resting on the beach Cody enjoyed the warm sunshine. But with a sudden fear, he sat up. “Where was
the airplane?” He searched the sand around him, but he found only broken seashells. He kept looking for the
airplane while eating lunch. But as it became clear that the airplane was lost, he lost his appetite (胃口) as well.
Cody was quiet on the way back home, wondering how to tell Dave about it. Slowly he climbed upstairs. On
the very last step, he felt something sharp in his pocket. “Could it be?” His fingers closed around the airplane in
disbelief. He must have put it into his pocket in his rush to go surfing! Awesome—now he wouldn’t have to tell
Dave about it!

Dogs can help first-year university students treat homesickness, according to a new UBC study. The study
shows that animal-assisted therapy (动物辅助治疗) can help students treat homesickness and could be a useful tool
in lowering post-secondary drop-out rates (辍学率).“Transitioning (转变) from high school to university proves to be a challenge for many first-year students,”
says Professor John Tyler Binfet of UBC. “Since students who experience homesickness are more likely than their
non-homesick schoolmates to drop out of university, universities should support students during their first year.”
In the study, 44 first-year university students who were homesick were given a survey to measure levels of
homesickness, satisfaction with life and connectedness (关联) with campus. Half of the students completed eight
weeks of dog therapy, while the other half were told to take the therapy eight weeks later. Dog therapy included 45-
minute weekly gatherings, like group activities with the dogs and their trainers, and meeting other first-year
students participating (参与) in the study. After eight weeks, participants in both the treatment group and the non-
treatment group completed the survey again.
Participants who completed the eight-week program were less homesick and more satisfied with school life.
They reported that during the therapy they felt like they were at home talking with friends who brought their dogs.
However, the non-treatment group reported an increase in their feelings of homesickness.
“Moving to a new city, I did not know anyone at the university and became very homesick,” said Varenka
Kim, a student who took part in the eight-week therapy. “I stayed in my room and didn’t feel like I belonged here.
Having dog therapy every Friday gave me a sense of purpose and I stayed positive about life.”
According to a 2009 study, 29 percent of students who dropped out of school believed that more
communication and friendships with other students would have influenced their decision to stay longer.
“While further study is needed, a university’s ability to influence campus connections could be a useful tool in
lowering drop-out rates in first-year students,” says Binfet. “Many first-year university students face the challenge
of fitting into their new campus community,” he says. “Homesick students are three times more likely than those
who manage their homesickness to drop out of university.”

No doctor has ever considered that a shirt can save a patient’s lie. But on a family summer vacation in 2017.
Rob Leibowitz wore a T-shirt while walking around Disney World with the words: “In Need of Kidney, O
Positive.” A few months after a picture was posted on Facebook, Leibowitz, who had been on the list for several
year, had a successful surgery with a kidney donated (捐赠的肾脏) by a complete stranger. Although this story
might be unusual, it made me wonder: can medicine and fashion intersect in other ways?
They might seem like as strange a combination as red and green. Yet fashion is already being considered in
heath care settings. For example, the effect (影响) of hospital gowns on patients has been studied, and many
patients report feeling a loss of privacy (隐私) when putting on a gown. The gown even drove patients to have the
idea that they were unwell.
As a result, designers (设计师) have rethought what a patient gown could look like. Such redesigns have not
been widely accepted by hospitals yet, perhaps because the gowns have to be cheap, easy to make and easily
washable. However, gowns in different sizes and colors might help give the patients a feeling of control and
support—especially when so much is out of their control.
In fact, creative solutions to patient gowns have already been shown to have some positive effects. At Weill
Cornell, young patients undergoing MRI scans (核磁共振检查) were given an “MRI-am-a-Hero” kit to make theexperience feel like part of a superhero adventure. Researchers found that the number of kids who needed medicine
to stay calm decreased (减少).
My own experience also has shown me the value of thinking about how important fashion can be in medical
settings. A few years ago, I was working on a study about how patients could find kidney donors through social
networks. I remember asking one woman about her pink shirt, with “Help Me Find a Kidney” on the front and a
picture of her and her family printed on the back. “Every time I put it on,” she explained, “I am reminded that there
is still hope.”
52. The underlined word “intersect” in Paragraph 1 probably means “________”.
A. get connected B. become different C. be compared D. stay expensive
53. The writer probably agrees that ________.
A. making gowns easily washable is unimportant
B. redesigning gowns needs much money and new tools
C. gowns with creative designs can help patients get support
D. patients with terrible illnesses must post their needs online
54. What can be the best title for the article?
A. Dressing for Heath B. Fashion Will Never Leave
C. Ideas with Imagination D. Patients Ate Always Waiting

阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Many children ride a school bus to and from school and don’t think much about it. But for 12-year-old Jonny
Cohen, the smell of waste gases (废气) from school buses got him thinking about if there was a way to save more
energy for the buses.
The main problem with school buses, Jonny realized, was their boxy shape. It takes more energy for a boxy
bus to move forward through the air. He thought that improving its shape would reduce the energy needed to move
a bus. His first idea was to add a clear windshield (挡风玻璃) to the front of the bus. In this way, this windshield
would let air go up and over the bus.
Then, with the help of his sister and friends, Jonny started his project, which he called GreenShields. The
GreenShields team needed money to design and test his idea. Jonny entered his idea in a contest in 2010. He tried
all his best to get people’s support online for his idea—he spoke with town councils, talked to customers at stores,
and used social media to ask for people’s support. Luckily, his hard work paid off, and his team won $25,000 to
develop the idea.
After several years of researching and testing, a new design called the V4 was created. Instead of sitting in thefront of the bus, the V4 sits on the roof of the bus like a hat. Its sloped (倾斜的) design allows air to flow over and
around the bus more easily. In tests, buses using the V4 went farther on a tank of gasoline (一箱油). According to
the Greenshields team, the V4 can possibly save $600 every year for every bus. With all the school buses on the
road in the United States, that could save millions of dollars every year.
Although it still takes time for the V4 to come into use, Jonny and his team believe they will succeed. So if the
next school bus you take looks a little different, you may be witnessing (见证) Jonny’s idea in action.
