（2023·河南开封·统考模拟预测）This past January, Captain Preet Chandi set foot on a
historic, though decidedly icy, trail by becoming the first African woman to reach the South Pole
alone, without assistance. While others might have been content to make history with this singular
accomplishment, “Polar Preet” Chandi is not one to rest on her laurels (桂冠). The journey to the
South Pole was merely “phase one” of a larger and even more extraordinary goal for the
adventurous British Army officer.
For “phase two”, the 33-year-old has set her sights on crossing Antarctica — once again
doing the journey alone and unsupported to become the first woman to achieve this goal.
On November 14, Chandi departed from Hercules Inlet, an ice-filled bay at the southwestern
section of the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf bordering the Weddell Sea in Antarctica. Her goal is to
reach Reedy Glacier within 75 days, a coast-to-coast journey consisting of roughly 1,100 miles.
And “roughly” is the operative (关键的) word here — she’ll be pulling a sled with equipment,
weighing about 264 pounds altogether, and she’ll be doing so in temperatures that can sink to
minus 58 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.
Her journey thus far required years of training. Prior to her 700-mile South Pole journey, she
prepared by attending a polar survival course in Norway. She continued her training back home in
the U.K. by dragging tires, the closest thing to pulling a sled, and a month-long practice run in
Greenland. Ultimately, Chandi went on to finish her first South Pole expedition in 40 days, a full
eight days ahead of schedule.
When not otherwise setting records of human endurance in extreme conditions, Chandi tries
to inspire others in her day-to-day work.
Chandi will be posting interval voice blog updates of her phase two progress on her website,
polarpret.com, where a live tracking map will also provide her current location at every point
along her journey.
“Nothing is impossible. I’ve always had this idea that I can achieve something great,
something that allows me to be a role model,” Chandi shared on her blog.

incubated (孵化) in the sector such as deliverymen and live-streaming hosts, young people,
especially those born after 2000, are expressing a stronger willingness for flexible work relations
with companies, and also wish to become “digital workers” with flexible work locations and
schedules.
A report from Peking University’s National School of Development released on Wednesday
said that nearly 66 percent of surveyed employees born after 2000 prefer to work from home. The
number is higher than surveyed people born after 1970, with about 54. 4 percent of them
preferring the new way.
“The Internet can do anything for me. I check emails from my clients and submit my
proposals through WeChat, then we discuss plans via teleconference. I love working from home
actually,” said Mi Lu, a 28-year-old new media operator in Beijing. “It’s a much more convenient
and cooler thing. We work everywhere, perhaps in a cafe, or on a bullet train or even on the table
of a restaurant.”
Hu Jiayin, an associate professor in Peking University’s National School of Development,
concluded that their survey shows that young people desire freedom in their jobs, but also wish for
stability in their careers because of uncertainties brought by the fast-changing digital economy.
“But the development of the digital economy also brings great uncertainties and a sense of
insecurity to the working population, so we’ve found some interesting things during our surveys
that over 30 percent of job seekers we’ve surveyed wish to have a stable job at state-owned
companies,” she added.Li Qiang, vice-president of Zhaopin, said that the greatest risk to those seeking flexible work
is whether the company pays the salary fully and on time. “It’s necessary for job seekers to set up
a long-term development plan, rather than be shortsighted.” He added that companies may bear
risks that flexible employees can’t deliver high-quality work in a limited time period, which
requires the companies to establish a sound work delivery standard to help evaluate employee
performance.

（2023·广东·校联考三模）Indeed loneliness is now widely recognized as a major public
health problem. What is perhaps less obvious is one answer to the problem: the healing power of
poetry to make us feel more connected to others.
Here things get personal. I first got involved in how poetry can support our emotional
wellbeing after I wrole a memoir, Black Rainbow: Hone Words Healed Me—My Journey Through
Depression, in 2014 about how poetry helped me through two serious periods of depression. Since
then, I’ve been running Healing Words poetry sessions for mental health charities and prisons, and
have discovered first-hand the lovely feeling of companionship which poetry can bring.
Poetry lets us connect with other people who have experienced similar emotions. We’re not
alone in our despair or delight. When we have a poem by our side, whether tucked into a bag or on
a bedside table, it feels like we’re being accompanied by a friend: an authorial arm is wrapped
around our shoulders.
I remember one woman starting to cry as she read Derek Walcott’s poem “Love After Love”
during a workshop held at my local hospital in West London. Fighting through tears, she
eventually said, “I feel understood.” Everyone in the room knew exactly what she meant.

poet’s invitation to “Sit. Feast on your life” was the comfort she needed, in a language which
spoke to her, to imagine loving herself in a way she had always found hard. Poetry had worked its
magic, unlocking a feeling of inner connection, and in turn a connection to all of us sitting in the
workshop.
Given my own experience, I think having a poem to keep us company can help us all feel a
greater sense of belonging.

Your carbon footprint, which drives more global warming, is associated with everything from

In 2018, I spend my summer vacation alone. I didn’t have too many money, so I could not
undertake costly travel. Instead of, I went backpacking. But I didn’t plan carefully when I would
