Tesler became a student at Standford University in 1961, when he was just 16 years old. He started working for
Xerox, a company best known for its photocopies(复印机), in 1973. He then moved to Apple in 1980. At that time,
computers were not “user-friendly”. Every program worked differently. Tesler’s work, which included developing
cut, copy and paste, made computers easier to use for common people.
Cut, copy and paste were based on(基于) the old way of editing(编辑). People would actually cut printed paper
with scissors and glue pieces of text in other places on the page. The commands were first built into Apple’s Lisa
computer in 1983 and are now used in all the computers.
Tesler left Apple in 1997 and later worked for Amazon, Yahoo and other companies that deal with technology.
He died in 2020 at the age of 74, but his work lives on in the computers we use every day.
31. What were computers in the 1980s like?
A. They were the same as computers today.
B. They only had cut, copy and paste commands.
C. They were difficult to use for common people.
D. They ran programs that worked in the same way.
32. How did Tesler get the idea of creating the three commands?
A. By running a special program.
B. By listening to the users’ needs.
C. By learning from the old way of editing.
D. By using the new technologies of Apple.
33. Which word can be used to describe Tesler’s work?.
A. Great. B. Strange. C. Impossible. D. Interesting
34. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce the history of computers.
B. To encourage us to use computers wisely.
C. To tell us what computers were like in the past.
D. To introduce a man who changed computers greatly.

The situation can get worse if they see frequent (频繁的) media reports. A study shows that teenagers who
often see information on unlucky events are 1.45 times more likely to have stress (压力) than those who seldom do
so. If teenagers often see pictures and videos of the damage (破坏), they are 1.84 times more likely to feel unhappy.
So how can we deal with stress after upsetting news? Psychologist (心理学家) Li Songwei, has something to say.
Try to avoid pictures or videos that make you feel uncomfortable. Try to get to know about what happens by
reading text or talking with people. At the same time, we need to understand that bad things happen. Uncertainty
(不确定性) and imperfection are parts of the world. Only by facing it can we deal with it better.
If you can’t help checking your phones, learn about time management (管 理). For example, take half an hour
to read news and then put your phone away. Focus on things like exercise and studying so that you won’t be
affected by negative (负面的) feelings for too long.
35. According to the study, what makes stress worse for students?
A. Getting more disaster-related information.
B. Taking more airplane flights.
C. Experiencing traumatic events.
D. Having less sleep.
36. According to Li, what can we do about our bad feelings?
A. Stop talking to other people.
B. Try to accept the uncertainties and problems of the world.
C. Stay away from people who often read news.
D. Learn to face your problems alone.
37. What can we do to redirect (转移) our attention, according to Li?
A. Spend more time learning about the news.
B. Use our phones to study.
C. Take classes to learn time management.
D. Put away our phones and do some exercise.

Since last year short videos have become popular online. Many people make and share short videos on
popular video apps like Tik Tok and Kuaishou. On these popular apps, you can even add music and special effects
to your videos. A video uaually lasts 15 seconds to a few minutes. It shows people’s daily activities like cooking,
exercising and singing. So it can attract many people.
Teenagers enjoy these videos very much. More than 50 percent of junior high school students enjoy watching
these short videos. About 47 percent of them have shared their own videos on Tik Tok, according to a recent report

by the China National Youth Palace Association.
The videos let teenagers see a lot of funny and exciting things. Many teenagers like to share the fun things
they do with others as well. For example, a student named Xiaoqianyu has shared videos about her dancing. They
make her win many fans.
However, the videos can also cause trouble. Some students watch short videos for too long and do not have
enough time to study. Besides, there are some videos that are not appropriate for teenagers. They may learn bad
things from them.
To solve these problems, Tik Tok added a new function in April. The app won’t work if someone uses it for
over two hours a day. In the same month, the government asked companies to control these apps and take out
harmful videos. The apps have been checked and controlled more strictly since then, the Beijing News reported.
38. According to the article, what can people do on popular video apps?
A. Cook, exercise, sing and dance.
B. Make money and attract a lot of fans.
C. Create some funny videos and share them.
D. Study online and learn something useful.
39. How many percentages of junior high school students haven’t shared their own videos on Tik Tok?
A. About 47%. B. Less than 50%. C. About 53%. D. 97%.
40. What does the underlined word “appropriate” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Right. B. Exciting. C. New. D. Safe.
41. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. The person who makes the popular videos.
B. Discussion about popular short video apps.
C. The reasons why video apps become popular.
D. How to use video apps in a right way.
