benefits that help us in life and study.
First, hobbies are great stress-relievers. When you focus on something you love, like painting or playing the

a hobby session, you often feel refreshed and can concentrate better on your studies.
Second, hobbies help you make new friends and build confidence. Joining a club or an online group about
your hobby connects you with people who share your interests. As you get better at your hobby, you feel a sense
of achievement. This confidence can spread to other areas, like speaking in class or trying new challenges.
Finally, some hobbies can even teach you practical skills. For example, gardening teaches you about nature
and patience. Coding as a hobby improves your logical thinking. These skills might be useful for your future job.

My Journey into Painting
When I was a child, I loved to draw cartoons in my notebook. But I never thought I would become a
painter. It all started three years ago. My best friend gave me a set of watercolor paints on my birthday. I decided
to take up painting as a hobby. At first, I only painted in my free time. I would try out different colors and brush
techniques.Sometimes, I felt unhappy because my paintings didn’t look like what I imagined. My art teacher told me
not to give up so easily. She said, “Great painters practice every day. You need to watch others paint and learn
from them.” So I started to watch online painting lessons. I also joined a painting club, where I joined others in
painting outdoors on weekends.
Now, painting is more than a hobby. It has become a daily part of my life and even my full-time job.
Painting has taught me to be patient and creative. It has also taught me to see beauty in the small, common things:
the way sunlight filters (透过) through leaves, the soft curve (曲线) of a teacup, or the smile of a stranger on the
street. I’ve learned that even when a painting doesn’t turn out as I hoped, it’s not a failure—it’s just a step toward
something better. I’m so glad I decided to try it that day, because it didn’t just give me a job; it gave me a way to
connect with the world and express the feelings I can’t always put into words.

into the same things as you. You can join a club and get to know people with the same interests as you.
Take control of your time. Don’t let anything else take up your free time. ▲ Otherwise, the line between

The Mind-Body Connection: How Mental State Affects Physical Health
Modern science increasingly recognizes the profound link between our mental and physical well-being,
often termed the “mind-body connection”. Chronic stress, for instance, is not merely an emotional state; it triggers
a cascade of physiological responses. The body releases hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which, over time,
can weaken the immune system, making us more susceptible to infections like the common cold or flu.
Furthermore, persistent anxiety or depression can manifest as physical symptoms. People may experience
headaches, stomachaches, muscle tension, or fatigue without a clear physical cause. This is because emotional
distress can alter pain perception and disrupt normal bodily functions like digestion and sleep.
Conversely, positive mental states can have a therapeutic effect. Practices such as mindfulness meditation,
deep breathing exercises, and maintaining strong social connections have been shown to lower blood pressure,
reduce inflammation, and improve overall resilience against illness. Laughter, for example, releases endorphins,
the body’s natural painkillers, and boosts immune function.
Understanding this connection underscores the importance of holistic health. Taking care of your mental
health—through stress management, adequate sleep, and seeking help when needed—is not a luxury but a crucial
component of maintaining physical health. As the old saying goes, “A healthy mind in a healthy body.”
