Topic:The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is argued that the primary goal of scientific research ought to enhancehuman well-being. I totally agree with this opinion, as all valuable scientific breakthroughsultimately serveto solve real-life troubles and lift living standards.

Firstly, applied science directly eliminates daily hardships and prolongs human lifespans. Medical advances such as vaccines, antibiotics and minimally invasive surgerieshave drastically reduced mortality from infectious and chronic diseases. Without these scientific achievements, millions would still suffer from curable illnesses. Besides, innovations in transportation and digital technology reshape ordinary life: high-speed trains cut travel time, while the internet enables instant communication and convenient online services, greatly boosting people’s quality of life.

Secondly, fundamental theoretical research also targets long-term public benefits. Though studies like space exploration or particle physics seem distant from daily life, theybringspin-off technologies. Satellite positioning assists disaster prevention and agricultural monitoring, while new material science produces lightweight medical devices and energy-saving equipment. Governments fund such costly research mainly because they expect these findings to benefit society in the future.

Admittedly, a small number of scientific discoveries may be misused for military conflicts. However, this is a human choice rather than the inherent purpose of science. The core pursuit of scientists remains creating a safer, more comfortable world for humanity.

In conclusion, every branch of science, whether practical or theoretical, centers on improving human lives. Thus, improving people’s lives should undoubtedly be science’s mostvital objective.
