If you are a teenager without a job, you probably do not have much extra money. Sometimes parents
will give their children pocket money for doing small housework, but it is often not enough once the
children grow into teenagers and want to do things with their friends all of the time. How to make money is
an important thing for teens to learn. If you’re wondering how a teenager can make good money, some
ideas might be:
Getting a part-time job at a local restaurant or store is always a sure way to make money as a teen.
But getting a job somewhere like this might be hard, considering many jobs in local stores are being taken
by adults more and more often.
Doing landscaping (绿化) is something that most adults do not like to do, and teens can usually find
jobs around their neighborhood doing the landscaping of friends and family.
Some teens are good at something such as writing or photography. These teens can make money by
doing things such as writing articles for newspapers or magazines or selling their photos online.
Teens who live in a country area can earn money by helping out on farms, or they can try raising
their own animals such as chickens, and selling them or their products.
Looking for jobs can seem hard at first, but if you have a try, it should not be too hard to find a job
or way to make money.

My wife and I went to this vegan restaurant to give it a try.As we were eating our pepper and salt tofu,
a young lady named Debra walked in.She wasn’t aware that the place is vegan and was looking for some
meat.My wife and I talked up the place and invited her over to try some of our tofu.Debra tried it, nodded
and went out.
After a few minutes, she and her mother both walked back in.We were having the rest of our meal at
that time, so we told her what we had ordered.Debra then asked a waiter to just repeat our order for
them.Next, Debra said, “And we want to pay for their meal,” pointing to my wife and me.We tried to
say no, but Debra wouldn’t listen.
That was not the end of it.Hugs were in order.Debra came over to our table and my wife got up to hug
her.Debra hugged my wife and put $100 into her hand.My wife firmly said NO, but Debra insisted.Debra
kept talking about our kindness, and we did the same about hers and her mother’s. With tears in the eyes,
the waiters were blown away by this whole exchange between four strangers.I left the waiters a tip that
would cover all of our meals and we were on our way.

attention. We now have a new favorite restaurant and every time we go there, my plan is to pay for someone
else’s meal.

There is some unwelcome news for students preparing for exams and officers putting in long hours
—you don't need that “refreshment (提神) break” as much as you may think.
Scientists believed it was not easy for people to continue their work if they felt the need to have a
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂snack or a rest to make them feel better. They argued that the only way to regain willpower is by supplying
more energy to our bodies with rest, food or entertainment.
But psychologists have challenged this theory, saying weak willpower is in your head. They found
that a person's mindset (理念) and belief in willpower determine how long and how well they'll be able to
work on a tough mental exercise. “If you think of willpower as something that's limited, you're more likely
to be tired when you perform a difficult task,” said Professor Veronika Job. “But if you think of
willpower as something that is not easily depleted, you can go on and on.”
The researchers led by Mr Job designed an experiment to test the students' beliefs about willpower.
After a tiring task those who believed or were led to believe that willpower was a limited resource
performed worse on standard concentration tests than those who thought of willpower as something they
had more control over.
Mr Job said, “Students who may already have trouble studying are being told that their powers of
concentration are limited, and they need to take frequent breaks. But a belief in willpower as a nonlimited
resource makes people stronger in their ability to work through challenges.”
The findings could help people who are battling with temptation(诱惑): people following strict diets
and doing exercise regularly to lose weight, people trying to overcome addictions, employees facing a
tough task. Willpower isn't driven by a biologically based process as much as we used to think.

8.What opinion did scientists have in the past?
A.Willpower was a limited resource.
B.It was hard to regain willpower.
C.Hardworking people seldom took breaks.
D.People could easily feel tired when working.
答案:A
They argued that the only way to regain willpower is by
supplying more energy to our bodies with rest, food or entertainment.”
9.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “depleted” in Paragraph 3?
A.Given up. B.Recovered.
C.Used up. D.Changed.
If you think of willpower as something that's limited, you're more
likely to be tired when you perform a difficult task”可知如果你认为意志力是有限的东西,在执行困难
10.The following groups can benefit from the findings except .
A.patients following strict diets
B.children liking to watch TV
C.smokers trying to give up smoking
D.employees facing a new but wellpaid task
答案:D

11.Why does the author write the text?
A.To explain the power of willpower.
B.To show us how to build willpower.
C.To tell us the ways of gaining willpower.
D.To introduce a new theory on willpower.

psychologists have challenged this theory, saying weak willpower is in your head.”

Are some people born clever, and others born stupid? Or is intelligence developed by our environment
and our experience? Strangely enough, the answer to these questions is yes. To some extent our intelligence
is given to us at birth, and no amount of education can make a genius (天才) out of a child born with low
intelligence. On the other hand, a child who lives in a boring environment will develop his intelligence less
than one who lives in rich and varied surrounding (环境). Thus the limits of person's intelligence are fixed
at birth, whether or not he reaches those limits will depend on his environment. This view, now held by
most experts, can be supposed in a number of ways.
It is easy to show that intelligence is to some extent something we are born with. The closer the blood
relationship between two people, the closer they are likely to be intelligent. Thus if we take two unrelated
people at random from population, it is likely that their degree of intelligence will be completely different.
If, on the other hand, we take two identical twins, they will very likely to be as intelligent as each other.
Relations like brothers and sisters, parents and children, usually have similar intelligence, and this clearly
suggests that intelligence depends on birth.
Imagine now that we take two identical (完全相同的) twins and put them in different environments.
We might send one, for example, to a university and the other to a factory where the working is boring. We
would soon find differences in intelligence developing, and this shows that environment as well as birth
plays a part. This conclusion is also suggested by the fact that people who live in close contact with each
other, but who are not related at all are likely to have similar degree of intelligence.
12.Which of these sentences best describes the writer's point in Paragraph 1?
A.To some extent, intelligence is given at birth.
B.Intelligence is developed by the environment.
C.Some people are born clever and others born stupid.
D.Intelligence is fixed at birth, but is developed by the environment.
Thus the limits of person's intelligence are fixed at birth, whether or
not he reaches those limits will depend on his environment.
13.It is suggested in this passage that ________.
A.unrelated people are not likely to have different intelligence
B.close relations usually have similar intelligence
C.the closer the blood relationship between people, the more different they are likely to be in
intelligence
D.people who live in close contact with each other are not likely to have similar degrees of
intelligence
The closer the blood relationship between two people, the closer
they are likely to be intelligent.”和最后一段“This conclusion is also suggested by the fact that people
who live in close contact with each other, but who are not related at all are likely to have similar degree of
intelligence.”
14.Brothers and sisters are likely to ________.
A.have similar intelligence B.have different intelligence
C.go to the same university D.go to the same factory
答案:A
Relations like brothers and sisters, parents and children,
15.The best title for this article would be ________.
A.Intelligence
B.What Intelligence Means
C.We Are Born with Intelligence
D.Environment Plays a Part in Developing Intelligence

A report by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) showed that 40% of
workers reported their job was very stressful. So, it’s not surprising that we’re seeing a phenomenon called
the Sunday night blue—that anxiety you experience on Sunday when thinking about the coming workweek.
1
Schedule a fun activity. If you are sitting around your house lying on the sofa, it will be much more
likely for that anxiety to creep in. 2 It can be your favorite hobby, or you may go to the movies,
spend time outside or drink with friends.
3 Try planning your week in advance by setting goals and deadlines for the week ahead. Clean
out your inbox so you can start fresh on Monday. You can even write emails and send them at a future date.
By organizing your thoughts and preparing for upcoming meetings, it will help set you up for a good
weekend.
Consider a new career or job opportunity. If you have extreme Sunday night blues, it may be a sign
that you need to change your job or even your career. Start by examining why you are experiencing that
fear. Are you overwhelmed (压垮) by your work? Is your boss a nightmare to work for? 4 Once
you get to the root of your problem, you can do something about it. It may even be time to consider
starting a business so you can experience the freedom, flexibility and fulfillment of being your own boss.
5 So don’t settle. Time is precious, and every day you wake up is a gift. Make it count!
A. Plan for the week ahead.
B. Sit comfortably with your back straight.
C. Plan a fun activity to keep your focus on something positive.
D. Make a list of the things that cause your sadness or depression.

解析:
