“Singer 2024,” a music competition show by Mango TV, started on May 10. The show uses a “live-
broadcast” format (形式) without any editing, which has caused a lot of discussion. It made people think about
Chinese singers’ performances and showed the difference between China’s music industry and the rest of the world.
The first episode (集) had both international and Chinese singers. International singers like US singer Chanté
Moore. and Canadian singer Faouzia, and Chinese singers like Na Ying, Wang Sulong, and Rainie Yang from
Taiwan, were all part of the show. This mix was to attract different audiences.
In the first episode, seven singers performed. However, the international singers did much better than the
Chinese singers. Chanté Moore was the best with her song “If I Ain’t Got You,” and Faouzia impressed everyone
with her song “Crazy.” The Chinese singers, including Na Ying, did not perform as well as expected. Therefore,
Chanté Moore and Faouzia took the top two places, while Na Ying was third. The other places were also taken by
Chinese singers. The live format is good but shows the problem in the Chinese music industry. The international
singers were confident, but the Chinese singers were nervous.
On the first night, the show was very popular on Weibo. People talked about which new singers might join
and worried about the future of Chinese music. While “Singer 2024” started strong, the producers need to choose
future guests carefully to keep the audience happy. Even though the Chinese singers had mixed reviews, their
bravery to perform live is praiseworthy. In a world full of edited performances, live singing is a nice change.
“Singer 2024” has shown both Chinese artists and fans the differences between Chinese and international
music. It’s a wake- up call for Chinese music. To get better, the Chinese music industry needs to focus on real
singing talent.

girls across India have been supported to take up wrestling with his efforts.
A very famous Indian actor — Aamir Khan, played the role of Mahavir in the movie. It was an unusual
experience for him. Aamir Khan was very serious about his character and he tried to make this character close to
the true story. In order to act well, he needed to put on weight to be very fat and then did sports to be very strong in
a short time.
Aamir Khan started to eat a lot every day before making the movie. He ate at least 5 meals a day including
much junk food. He became too fat to run quickly.
It is simple to be fat but difficult to be strong. Aamir Khan invited many coaches to train him to lose weight
and it took him a few months to be strong. He must eat less food and drink more water. Strength training is also
important. This kind of physical training is very boring. He had to lift different weights and did it over and over
again. Aamir Khan set a goal to himself day by day and the minute he made it, he fell down on the ground and
could hardly stand up. In the end, he became the exact person the movie needed.
The role he played was very moving and he succeeded at last. As he says, the most important thing in life is
not whether you can reach your goal but whether you have made the greatest efforts.

in a stadium in Chengdu on the evening of August 6th, 2023.
The Chinese team competed in the race. They knew they weren’t considered the best for the race but decided
to give their best and fight for victory. In this race, Deng Zhijian, a talented young athlete (运动员) from Mianyang,
Sichuan, ran the final leg for the Chinese team.
As the race kicked off, the air was filled with excitement. The Chinese team started in the fourth lane (跑道),
and the runners passed the baton (接力棒) from one to another smoothly. However, when it was Deng’s turn, the
Chinese team was far behind the Thai team.
But Deng wasn’t ready to give up. He ran as fast as he could, closing the gap (差距) between him and the
Thai runner, even though it was rainy. With a sudden increase in speed, Deng crossed the finishing line, leaning (前
俯) forward to give it his all.
The result was very close, and even the big screen couldn’t tell who had won immediately. The Chinese and
Thai teams had the same time displayed—38.80 seconds. It was a nail-biting moment for everyone.
Finally, the result came out. The Chinese team had won by a tiny difference—only 0.006 seconds! And the
gold medal belonged to the Chinese team. The crowd all cheered suddenly.
After the race, Deng, who is called “Mianyang Flying Man”, couldn’t believe he had won the championship.

Thousands of runners did up their running shoes and poured out from the starting line while crowds cheered
along the course. Marathons in China are picking up the pace again. According to the Chinese Athletics
Association, a total of 133 marathons across the country have been registered(注册)for the first six months of
the year. On March 26, more than 300,000 runners took part in 26 marathon events nationwide, reported China
Daily.
Teenagers have also taken part in marathons. Xu Qian, a 15-year-old from Suqian, Jiangsu, loves running. He
got first place in the 5-kilometer Happy Run of the Jingdong Suqian Marathon held on April 2th. For Xu, it meant
months of training and preparation. He runs about 30 to 40 kilometers in local stadiums each week ahead of the run.
“Unlike the 800-meter run at school which is more about speed, a marathon tests a runner’s endurance and
mental quality,” he told Teens. When he felt tired during the race, he told himself not to give up. “In long-distance
running, the only opponent you have to beat is yourself,” Xu added.
Apart from one’s willpower, kindness from the audience also plays a big part in helping runners get to the
finish line. Li Zhouzi from Shanxi took part in a 3-kilometer Kid Run of the Berlin Marathon in Germany in 2019
when she was 10. The support from the people cheering along the way really encouraged her.
“When things were hard, people from across the world cheered me on. Even if it was just the words, ‘keep it
up’, it meant a lot to me and I was inspired to keep going to the end,” Li told Teens. She believes that running a
marathon is about staying focused on the final goal, not the suffering along the way. “Likewise, our life is also a
marathon,” Li said.

Fibromyalgia (纤维肌痛症) is a long-lasting health problem, which makes people feel of pain and have
trouble sleeping. It can make them feel bad both in their bodies and minds. Some researchers wanted to see if Tai
Chi, a special kind of exercise that uses slow movements to help both body and mind, could help people with
fibromyalgia feel better. They studied 226 people with fibromyalgia for a year. Some did regular (常规) exercises,
and others did Tai Chi, which can be done by anyone, no matter their physical limits.
Before starting, the researchers checked how much pain and stress each person had. They chose patients who
had a lot of pain and had been dealing with fibromyalgia for about nine years. They divided them into two groups:
one did regular exercises, and the other did Tai Chi. Both groups exercised twice a week for an hour. After either 12
or 24 weeks of classes, they were told to practice at home for at least 30 minutes every day. The researchers
checked on them every month. They also asked how much pain and other problems the patients had in the
beginning, after 12 and 24 weeks, and after the whole year.
The results showed that the Tai Chi groups, especially those who practiced for 24 weeks, had less pain than

the regular exercise groups. The Tai Chi groups also felt less stressed and were better at dealing with their
problems. They attended their Tai Chi classes more often.
Tai Chi is about moving slowly to exercise all parts of the body. It helps with balance and controlling
movements. It also helps with feelings and behavior. The researchers said, “Tai Chi helped patients with
fibromyalgia feel better in their minds and bodies, which might be better for them in the long run.”
Many patients have also said that Tai Chi helps them feel better. The researchers’ study adds something more
to that. They said, “Tai Chi could help patients feel more confident to manage their condition better. Tai Chi may be
especially well suited to the treatment of fibromyalgia.”

earth? Sometimes a creative mind can bring us a win—win (双赢) situation.

Plogging, a new way to exercise, began in Sweden. The name “plogging” comes from two words—the
Swedish (瑞典的) word “plocka”, which means to “pick up”, and the word “jogging”. which means “to run
slowly”. A Swedish man called Erik started the movement. He saw rubbish here and there when riding to work
every day. He became worried about the dirty environment and decided not to go to work by bike any more.
Instead, he began to run to work and pick up the rubbish at the same time. To his joy, more and more people
followed him and plogging became popular.
Many people choose plogging instead of just jogging because they think plogging is a good way to help clean
up the earth. Sometimes rubbish is difficult to collect because it may scatter all around. But if the runners pick up
the rubbish on the way, it is quite different. After all, many hands make light work. Another reason is that plogging
burns more calories(卡路里). According to a research, plogging for 10 minutes burns 48 calories, while usual
jogging for 10 minutes burns 39 calories.
Everyone on the earth should play a part in cleaning it up! It’s time for us to take action together. So ready?
