The best title for the passage is ________.
The passage is mainly about ________.
Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
What is the text mainly about?
The main idea of the second paragraph probably is ________.
What is the first paragraph mainly about?
(1)高频考点:标题归纳题、文章大意题;
上,揣摩哪个选项能准确概括主旨;
符选项;

段落中出现表示转折的词语,如but、 however、 in fact、 actually等,转折词
表示总结或结论的词语,如therefore、 thus、 in short、 conclude 等,总结词后

Americans are drinking less milk today than they did 40 years ago. In fact, Americans are drinking about 40
percent less than they did in 1975.
This decrease has led the United States dairy industry to explore new ways to get people to drink milk. One
method it is testing: helping to set up coffee bars in US high schools.
Schools prepare coffee drinks in different ways, but milk is always the main ingredient in lattes (拿铁). “Lattes
are really milk with some coffee,” notes Julie Ostrow of the Midwest Dairy Association.
That is why Midwest Dairy is providing financial help for a coffee bar at a fourth high school in the Fort
Zumwalt, Missouri area during the upcoming school year. In exchange, the group will get data on how much milk
is used for the lattes, as well as other information about food products with dairy.
Dairy groups have worked with high schools in many states. At a high school in North Dakota, for example, a
$5,000 grant from a dairy group helped pay for a coffee machine. The device makes lattes with about 0.23 liters
of milk each. The drinks used around 2,000 liters of milk this past school year. In Florida, a dairy group said it
paid for coffee carts in 21 high schools this past year.
“While dairy is a good way to get calcium and vitamin D, it is not the only way to get such nutrients,” says
Doctor Natalie Muth. She is a childcare specialist.
As for lattes, Muth said there are ways to persuade students to get the nutrients of milk without promoting
caffeine use.
“If they're going to be having that outside of school, that's one thing. But in schools, the idea is to promote
good health and nutrition,” she said.
1.What does Julie Ostrow think of latte?

2.Why do the United States dairy industry help set up coffee bars at school?
A.To replace milk with coffee.
B.To promote the sale of milk.
C.To offer students more choices.
D.To change students' drinking habits.
3.What's the fifth paragraph mainly about?
A.Dairy groups donate money to schools.
B.Dairy groups support school coffee bars.
C.Coffee devices use much milk every day.
D.Coffee devices are popular in many schools.
4.What attitude did Natalie Muth take towards coffee bars at school?
A.Confused. B.Confident.
C.Negative. D.Favourable.

Older women who walk a little over three kilometers each day might live longer than less active women of the
same age, a new study suggests.
Many Americans hoping to stay healthy set a daily goal of 10,000 steps, or about eight kilometers. They
often have this goal because they are wearing electronic devices which set that target, note researchers in the United
States. Their findings appeared recently in the publication JAMA Internal Medicine.
But it is not clear how much intensity (强度) or speed matter when counting the health benefits of every step,
the researchers write. They add that 10,000 steps per day might not be the right goal for everyone.
For the study, researchers observed 17,000 women, all in their early 70s. They asked the women to wear
accelerometers for at least four days. Accelerometers are small devices that measure the number of steps and the
intensity of movement.
The researchers followed up with the women much later, around 4.3 years later, on average. Since the
beginning of the study, 504 women had died. Compared to women who took no more than 2,718 steps daily, the
women who took at least 4,363 steps per day were 41 percent less likely to die.
“The women who took more steps had lower mortality rates (死亡率) until about 7,500 steps per day,
beyond which no further declines were observed,” I-Min Lee, the lead writer of a report on the study, told theReuters news agency. “The rate of stepping did not matter in these older women; it was the number of steps that
mattered.”
“Still, the results are good news for older adults who may have difficulty walking at faster paces,” said
Keith Diaz, a researcher at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.
“Any walking is better than nothing,” Diaz said by email. “With even small amounts of walking, your risk
of death will be sharply reduced.”

CArctic sea ice has been steadily decreasing since the beginning of satellite records in 1979, but a new study
comes with a chilling (or perhaps, warming) prediction: By the end of this century, Arctic sea ice may disappear
during the summer, which could drive polar bears and other ice-dependent species to extinction.
The “Last Ice Area” is a region containing the oldest, thickest Arctic ice. It spans an area of more than 380,
000 square miles (1 million square kilometers) from the western coast of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago to
Greenland's northern coast. When scientists named the 13-foot-thick (4 meters) ice region, they thought it would
last for decades.
But now, under both the most optimistic and pessimistic scenarios (情形) for warming linked to climate
change, the sea ice will dramatically thin by 2050. The most optimistic scenario, in which carbon emissions are
immediately and dramatically curbed to prevent the worst warming, could result in a limited portion of the ice
surviving in the region. In the most pessimistic scenario, in which emissions continue at their current rate of
increase, the summer ice — and the polar bears and seals that live on it — could disappear by 2100, researchers
reported in a new study.
“Unfortunately, this is a massive experiment we're doing,” study co-author Robert Newton, a senior
research scientist at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, said in a statement. “If the year-
round ice goes away, entire ice-dependent ecosystems will collapse, and something new will begin.”
As carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases increasingly contribute to the warming of the atmosphere, the
past 15 years has brought the lowest 15 sea-ice extents in the satellite record, according to the National Snow and
Ice Data Center (NSIDC). Worse still, the NSIDC reports that the amount of older, thicker Arctic ice that has
survived at least one melt season is at a record low. A more dramatic decrease in ice coverage could have a serious
effect on the lives of the animals that live on, or under, the shifting ice network, including photosynthetic algae, tiny
crustaceans, fish, seals, narwhals, bowhead whales and polar bears.
9.What will present a great threat to the species in the Arctic according to the study?
A.Lack of necessary food.
B.Pollution of ocean water.
C.The loss of their habitats.
D.The extreme cold weather.
10.What does the underlined word “curbed” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Improved. B.Predicted.
C.Determined. D.Controlled.
11.What does the author intend to express in the last paragraph?
A.His concern over the Arctic animals' future.B.His surprise at the great amount of Arctic ice.
C.His curiosity about the reasons for low sea-ice extents.
D.His doubt about the dramatic decrease in ice coverage.
12.What would be the best title for the text?
A.“Last Ice Area” Is on the Decrease
B.Polar Bears Could Become Extinct
C.Small Ice Coverage Has Negative Effects
D.Greenhouse Gases Lead to Global Warming
