friendship。

him...safe”可知,“want sb. to do sth.”是固定短语,意为“想要某人做某事”,“stay”在这里意为“保持”,
所以用动词不定式“to stay”。故填to stay。
8.句意:但是为了村民和他们的友谊,他们决定一起合作。根据“Ne Zha’s family wanted him...Ao Bing’s
family wanted him to destroy the village...for the villagers and their friendship, they decided to work together.”可

Advanced Thinking Exercise: Emotions in Action

The Soccer Captain’s Dilemma
Leo was the captain of his school soccer team. Before a big match, his teammate Alex kept missing practice,
saying he was busy. Leo was upset and worried about the team. After another missed practice, Leo couldn’t control
his anger. He shouted at Alex in front of the team, “If you don’t care, just quit!” The words were hurtful. Alex, who
was actually helping his sick mother, felt shocked and lonely. He quit the team without explaining.
Leo soon learned the truth from another friend. He felt terrible. His friend Ella advised him, “You were angry,
but you didn’t know his story. You need to deal with this. Maybe you should say sorry first.”
Leo thought about it. He had let his emotions make a decision too quickly. He found Alex after school. “Alex,
I’m really sorry,” Leo said. “I was angry about practice, but I was wrong to shout. I didn’t know about your mom.
My words were hurtful.” Alex was still upset but appreciated the apology. “I should have told you,” he replied. “I
