Before the exams began, God told me in my mind several times, “Don’t cheat.” But I did not listen because I
knew it was not easy for me to get good marks in exams. Taking out my notebook, I copied the answers from it
and passed the exams with very good marks.
I felt guilty and ashamed and asked God to forgive me, which I thought was all I needed to do to give mepeace. Using my good exam results I went on further with my education. Studying in Kwara State College of
Education, I could not have peace in my mind, thinking, “You have done wrong. The result is not yours.”
At last I went to the leaders of my church to ask for help, who told me that it is not enough to say sorry to
God. I must show that I am sorry by putting right what I did wrong. For me, that meant telling the principal of the
college that I cheated in the exams and that I should not have got into the college. I wrote a letter to him, telling
him what I had done and took the letter to the principal’s office and gave it to his secretary, who read it first. “If
this gets to the principal you will go to prison, ” she said, “Go away and think about it.”
I went back to the church leaders and told them what the secretary said and they said I must still go to the
principal. So the next day, I went back to the secretary, who took me to see the principal this time. To my surprise,
he told me not to be afraid but to go to the person who was in charge of the exams. I did as required and that
person let me take the exams again. I passed! Now I am back at the college, but, more important, God has taken
away the feelings of guilt and I have peace in my mind.

A.His generosity. B.His tolerance. C.His hard work. D.His honesty.

According to a report by the World Health Organization, there are currently 285 million people in the world
who are visually disadvantaged. Among those. 39 million people are blind whereas 246 million people are living
with low vision of some kind. Accessibility options can be improved with a simple walking stick, but life is still
full of obstacles (障碍) for those people.
To help this visually-challenged population, Chandigarh University’s student Lovelesh Dutt has developed a
smart stick which helps them with their day-to-day activities, ensuring that their visual problem doesn’t prevent
them from living a life of joy.Based on artificial intelligence, the smart stick has a number of features. For example, if any kind of object or
animal or even human comes in the way of the user, then the stick. will generate a warning sound, besides
producing vibrations (震动), making the user aware of the object coming in front of them.
Dutt explains that the AI-based smart stick is connected to the GPS system, which provides information
about the location of the user to their family. Besides, the stick draws its power from the sun with the help of a
solar panel mounted on it, thus removing the problem of charging it.
“The stick has an inbuilt emergency SOS network. In case of any emergency, the user can press the button on
the stick, which will automatically send an SOS message to the police and family members along with the
location of the user. Also, if anyone tries to harm the user, the inbuilt device at the bottom of the stick will give a
shock of 400 kv to the offender, allowing the blind person to protect themselves,” he says.
There is more to Dutt than just the smart stick. With exceptional performance in the field of research and
innovation, Dutt is providing free technology and research education to poor children. Furthermore, his work
towards women’s safety and self-reliance is leading the charge for a safer society for women.
28.What does paragraph I intend to tell us about visually-challenged people?
A.Their global numbers. B.Their levels of visibility.
C.The causes of their problem. D.The need to improve their well-being.
29.How can the smart stick benefit its users?
A.Preventing them from running into barriers. B.Planning a route for them to their destination.
C.Helping them call the doctor in emergencies. D.Enabling them to talk with family members.

Fashion designers are always looking for new materials to work with. Lately, it’s all about environment-
friendly materials -- recycled tires, mushrooms, even pineapple fibers! What if you want such a pair of shoes?
Thaely is here to help.
This sneaker brand out of Dubai wants to fight the growing problem of plastic pollution. Led by 23-year-old
Indian businessman Ashay Bhave, they may have found a winning approach: making shoes out of plastic grocery
bags. “Thaely” means “plastic bag” in the Hindi language.
“I was looking to create footwear that is cost-effective and safe for the environment,” Bhave said in an
interview with a newspaper. “I needed to come up with something that uses recycled plastic without creating any
more plastic waste. ”Plastic bags were the perfect solution. He said five trillion plastic bags are used around theworld each year. “I was motivated to find a solution to this problem,” Bhave said.
That solution was the fiber called ThaelyTex. Made entirely from plastic bags, the material looks and feels
like leather. That sounds promising. Better yet, the production process requires no additional chemicals and
produces no poisonous by-products. The result is a smart-looking pair of white low-top sneakers.
Bhave wouldn’t expose the full process for making ThaelyTex, but he said that each pair of shoes was made
from up to 15 plastic bags and 22 plastic bottles. Where do they get the materials? Bhave told Elle that was the
hardest part. “The biggest challenge we faced was right at the first step of acquiring the plastic bags. ”
Finally, they got help from TrioTap Technologies, a waste management plant. Bhave said they offered to
collect the bags and also process them into ThaelyTex.
So far, it seems like things are falling into place. There are already hundreds of pre-orders in place. It sounds
like they have some plans for the future. “We have a few more colors coming up,” said Bhave. They also plan to
put out a high-top model and bring in a line of clothing. Let’s hope their growth is also friendly to the
environment.
32.Why did Bhave choose to make shoes out of plastic bags?
A.To set a new footwear trend.
B.To test new materials for footwear.
C.To reduce the use of plastic bags in his home country.
D.To use recycled plastic in an environment-friendly way.
33.What was the most difficult task for Bhave?
A.Having a few more colors for Thaely. B.Processing plastic bags into ThaelyTex.
C.Collecting enough production materials D.Dealing with many poisonous by-products
34.The underlined part“put out”in the last paragraph probably means__________.
A.produce B.conserve
C.provide D.broadcast
35.What can be the best title for this passage?
A.Bhave: a promising young man
B.Thaely: killer of waste plastic bags
C.ThaelyTex: material out of plastic bags
D.TrioTap Technologies: a waste management plant

Science can help you improve your study methods. For more than 100 years, psychologists have done
research on which study habits work best. 36 . Here are 4 tips to improve your study habits.
Space out your studyingNate Kornell,a psychologist at Williams College, thinks it's a good idea to study the day before a big test.
37 . Instead, space out those study sessions. Kornell compares our memory to water in a bucket that has a
small leak. Try to refill the bucket while it's still full, and you can't add much more water. Allow time between
study sessions, and some of the material may drip out of your memory. But then you'll be able to relearn it and
learn more in your next study session.
Practice,practice,practice!
Musicians practice their instruments. Athletes practice sports skills. 38 . "If you want to be able to
remember information, the best thing you can do is practice," says Katherine Rawson. She's a psychologist at
Kent State University in Ohio. In one 2013 study, students took practice tests over several weeks. On the final
test, they scored more than a full letter grade better,on average, than students who studied the way they
normally had.
Test yourself
Nebel's preferred study habit is one of the best way. Before big tests,Nebel's mom quizzed her on the
material. “Now I know that was retrieval(检索)practice,”she says. As Nebel got older, she quizzed herself.
“ 39 ,” Nebel suggests. “Put questions on one side and the answers on the other side and try to quiz
yourself the way the teacher asks questions,”she adds.
Dig deeper
It's hard to remember a string of facts and figures if you don't push further. Ask why things are a certain way.
How did they come about? Why do they matter?Psychologists call this elaboration. It's taking class material and
asking a lot of how and why questions about it. This helps you combine new information with other things you
know. And it creates a bigger network in your brain of things that relate to one another, she says. 40 .
A.The same should go for learning
B.Some tips help for almost every subject
C.Of course, nothing can replace studying with your mother
D.Some experts hold that studying late at night can be really useful
E.That larger network makes it easier to learn and remember things
F.Create a pack of flash cards every time you learn new information
G.But research shows it's a bad idea to force all your studying into that day

identification program 56 (create) by the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology.

The sense of calm, well-being and pleasure that I feel when I’m hearing birdsong 61 (support) by

Every Sunday, Grandma and I walked to the Children’s home a few blocks away from our house. Grandmaalways brings a home-made cake to these children, who are of different nationalities and ages. Some are refugees
(难民)who cannot talk in English, some are even disabled.
First we visit John, who is from Brazil. I call him “Football genius”. He plays football so well that he
organized a football team to help other kids develop football skills, such as passing and ball control. Every time
we reached the playground, we saw a group of sweaty kids running around a field with bright smiles.
Next we visit Daisy. I call her “The singer” because she has a great gift for singing. She loves to sing songs
for us. Wherever she stays, her soft and sweet voice fills the air.
Then we visit David. I call him “Prince(王子)Joke”. He can do talk show, cross-talk(相声),tell jokes.
Sometimes he laughs loudly while telling jokes, we could see his legs shaking up and down, his face turning red.
Grandma and I can’t help laughing along with him.
One day, Grandma fell ill and had to stay in bed. She was in a low spirit and couldn’t move.
Sunday came. Grandma put my hand into her hand and told me “Rose given fragrance(芳香)in hand.” I
understood what she meant, I bought a cake from shop and went to children’s home. Everyone was happy lo see
me. They were disappointed when they didn’t see grandma. Knowing grandma was sick, they were sad. They
prayed together for grandma’s recovery. After a while, I said goodbye to everyone.
A week later, grandma was still lying in bed. She could not walk or speak, what she could do was drink some
milk. I begged her to go to hospital. She shook her head. I hid myself under the big tree in our yard so Grandma
wouldn’t see tears on my cheeks.

Michael Morpurgo, born in St. Albans in 1943, is the author of many well-known books for children, five of
which have been made into films. After a brief and unsuccessful period in the army, he took up teaching in 1967,
when he found his true interest in writing. He left teaching after ten years in order to set up a charity “Farms for
City Children” with his wife. He thought what children needed most were wonderful and memorable experiences
that would help them find more about the world and themselves. They have three farms in Devon, Wales and
Gloucestershire, open to inner city school children who come to stay and work with the plants and animals. He is
also a father and grandfather. Children have always played a large part in his life.
Morpurgo has a gift for magical storytelling. His most popular books include War Horse, which was a
runner-up for the Whitbread Children’s Book Award in 1982 and became an enormous success on stage and on
screen; My Friend Walter, which was adapted for television. The Butterfly Lion draws on the author’s own
unhappy experiences at boarding school. He was awarded an Order of the British Empire in 2006 for services to
literature.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Grandma opened her eyes and sat up. A confused look appeared on her pale
face. Suddenly, a loud laughter came into my ears. “It’s David, the Joke Prince.” I shouted. “We miss you.” David
rushed to grandma with a delicate cake in his hands. It was a nice-looking cake decorated with fruits in the shape
of heart. “The cake is made by all children in the nursery home.” David said and switched on the recorder; a sweet
voice filled the air. It was a song sung by Daisy. Magically, he took out a picture. In the picture, grandma was
watching John’s football team playing football.
That evening, grandma called me in her bedroom. She said she was hungry. She drank a big bowl of porridge
and tasted a bit of cake. A satisfied smile flashed on her face. Her eyes were shining with joy. With tears in her
eyes, she hugged the recorder and picture into her arms. She told me she would go to hospital the next day. She
was eager to recover soon to visit the lovely kids. “What a magic visit!” I whispered. Nothing is more fantastic
than being needed and valued.
