The Event
Sign up today for the 2023 Thanks For Giving 4 Miler and Kids Dash that will take place this Thanksgiving in
New Albany! Come out and join us for a fun kick off to Thanksgiving Day festivities! As always, 100% of our net
proceeds go to help those in need.
All are welcome, including competitive runners, joggers, and walkers wanting to enjoy time with friends and
loved ones. Registration ends on November 22, 2023.
The Fee
There is no official race fee. You can give as much or as little as you want. However-a $40 minimum donation
is required to get our soft T-shirt. Our goal is to feed as many families in Central Ohio as we can. You can help by
running our race, spreading the word, or making a donation. You may bring any donation you want, from a can of
soup to cash. Let’s make a difference.
Event Day Timeline
6:30 am: Race day check-in begins.
8:00 am: Opening ceremony (仪式) begins!
8:15 am: Kids Dash begins!
8:30 am: The Thanks For Giving 4 Miler kicks off!
Awards
The top three overall male and female finishers will receive a gift certificate. The top three male and female
finishers in each of the following age groups will receive a pumpkin (南瓜) pie: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29,
30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and above. Every participant of the kids race receives a
finisher’s medal!

Languages are dying out all the time. Here are four languages that were once widely spoken but are now
considered as “dead” languages.
Old Norse
Old Norse was spoken and written by the Vikings from about the 7th century. It was used in countries like
Iceland and parts of Russia. The Vikings were famous for their attacks on neighbouring countries, and so Old Norse
had an influence on the languages of the places they attacked, including English. For example, English words such
as “egg, gift, anger, want, trust and score” come from Old Norse.
Middle EnglishMiddle English was spoken in England between the 12th and 15th centuries and was very different from the
English we use these days. In the past, England was highly influenced by Old Norse. So was its language. There are
no manuscripts (手稿) in Middle English as it was much more fashionable to write in French. Middle English gave
way to modern English. One example of the wide use of modern English was Shakespeare’s works.
Hunnir
Hunnir is the most mysterious of the languages on our list. The Huns were a community that spread across
eastern Europe in the 4th and 5th centuries. Despite the Huns’ success in expanding their empire, their language
was never written down. The few words that are known are mainly names-in modern Turkey and Mongolia. Apart
from these, only three words are known; kamos, medos (types of drinks) and strava (a big meal).
Ancient Greek
More than 4,000 years ago, the Greeks spoke an advanced language known today as Ancient Greek, and
developed the first alphabet. Indeed, the English word “alphabet” is taken from the first two letters of the Greek
alphabet: alpha and beta. Although the language is no longer spoken anywhere, it continues to be studied by
scholars around the world and is regarded as one of the most important languages of all time.

Lorne, Australia
Australia’s Great Ocean Road follows the coast, making Lorne a perfect stopping-over point as you travel
around the country by the sea. Famous as an art community, it is surrounded by sandy beaches and stunning
waterfalls. It’s a great fishing destination, too.

Rivelin Valley
Make sure you pack your camera when you visit this waterfall in the Rivel in Valley, as it’s one of the most
picturesque spots in the Peak District. Follow the nature trail through the woodland where you’ll find dams,
reservoirs, streams and a series of very pretty waterfalls.

Lee Cheng UK Han Tomb (墓) Museum
Discovered in 1955 during construction work, the declared monument (纪念碑) is believed to be a tomb built
in the Eastern Han dynasty (AD 25—220). Though the actual tomb is closed to the public for the conservation
reason, you can still get a pretty clear view of the tomb structure through a glass panel. Go to the exhibition hall

Our 100-word-story competition is your chance to show the world your storytelling talents!
Your stories should be original, unpublished and exactly 100 words — not a single word shorter or longer!Entries are now open and the submission deadline is January 5, 2024. Multiple entries are allowed per person. We
are unfortunately only able to consider UK-based entries.
Rules
