Passage 1
“All right, are you ready? Okay, the camera’s rolling.” I really made my dream. I stood inside the empty school
hallway and held the script On Patrol. “For this scene, ”I explained, “all I need you to do is to walk quietly. ”In front of
the camera was my best friend, Gavin, wearing a blue uniform. This was certainly not a Hollywood blockbuster. I didn’t
have a producer, a script director, or even something as simple as a light set up. The only tools I had was my camera and
my tripod(三脚架), but they were enough. “Okay, are you good? ”I asked. Gavin nodded his head. “Okay. Action!” I
said.
Since I was in kindergarten, movies have been my life. Some people may think back to their childhood as they hear
the sound of table tennis or see a baseball flying into the blue sky during a backyard game. Some people may smell the
salty air of the ocean during a family vacation. As for me, I hear the sound of the video recorder. The movie I watched
most as a child was Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. From then on, I watched as many movies as I could. When I began high
school, I was wondering what I should choose as a job. After months of not having any idea of what I would become, an
idea appeared: If I love movies so much, why not make it a career? I began to write my first short film, On Patrol, a ten-
minute silent video about a hall monitor trying to stop someone from throwing rubbish at a school. After I finished my
first script, I was very excited. Then I was thinking, "Now it is up to me to make my first movie."
It was not a famous movie, but it was my stepping-stone. Now looking back at On Patrol still gives me a dream that
could direct more good movies. Watching my first movie not only gives me a laugh, but also gives me the encouragement
to continue running after a love I have had since I put Spider-Man into my video recorder many years ago.
12.What was the writer doing according to Paragraph 1?
A.Writing a script. B.Directing a movie.C.Taking photos of his friend. D.Acting a movie with his friend.

C.The smell the salty air of the ocean. D.The sound of the video recorder.
14.What did the writer most probably think of his first film?
A.It was his best movie. B.It was a big success.
C.It was an encouragement for him. D.It was a humorous story.
15.Which of the following words can best describe the spirit of the writer?
A.Humorous. B.Careless. C.Dependent. D.Strong willed.
Passage 2
One day after school, I went to the teachers’ office to see my teacher, but nobody was there. I was about to leave
when I noticed a piece of paper on the floor. I picked it up and saw the words “FINAL-TERM EXAMINATION” at the
top. I put the paper into my schoolbag secretly and ran out of the room.
After I came back home, I took out the paper quickly. It was the exam paper of my worst subject, history. I felt
excited. My heart beat fast. I took out my history book and started working on the answer. I had never answered any
questions so seriously.
On the day of the history exam, I went into the exam hall confidently. When the paper was sent to me, I dreamed of
getting the highest mark in the whole grade and could not help smiling. “My history teacher always encouraged me to
work hard and get better grades, but I let him down time and time again. This time I will give him a big surprise,” I
thought.
When the teacher said we could start, I turned the paper over. To my surprise, all the questions were different. Later I
felt nervous. In the end, I almost left the paper undone. After the exam, I ran to the toilet, took out the paper and carefully
read it from the top. Oh! It was last year’s exam paper, I read all the questions but I hadn’t read the date.
This is a lesson in which I know I have to put my feet on the ground. I regretted doing such a silly thing. After that, I
told my teacher the truth and I promised to be honest. From then on, I worked harder than ever before.
16.Why did the writer go to the teachers’ office?
A.To take an exam. B.To see his teacher.

19.After the exam, which of the following might the writer write in his diary?
A.I’m glad that I did very well in the exam.
B.I’m truly sorry for what I did. Everyone should be honest.
C.When I turned over the paper, I couldn’t help smiling.
D.My teacher asked me to go to his office. I was very happy.
Passage 3
I used to be a pessimist (悲观主义者), thinking that the worst thing might happen in every situation.
Last year, my mother had a serious illness. I felt my whole world turn upside down and I had no idea what I could
do to help her with her pain. I often cried whenever I was alone.
Last month, I lost an expensive dress that was a birthday present from my father. I could not fall asleep for a few
nights because I felt so terrible about the loss.
There have been many things like these in my life. I really didn’t know how to deal with them until I read If You
Have a Lemon, Make a Lemonade by an American writer, Dale Carnegie.
“When the wise man is handed a lemon, he asks: ‘How can I turn this lemon into a lemonade? How can I improve
my situation? What lesson can I learn from this?’” he wrote.
I suddenly realized that life is full of ups and downs, so I decided to stay positive (积极的) all the time.
Now when I think of my past, I wish I could have dealt with things differently. When my mother was fighting with
her illness, I should have held her hands in mine, telling her that things would get better instead of hiding and crying.
Recently, I took part in a school singing competition. I didn’t win a prize. If I had not read the article, I would be sad
and disappointed again. But I smiled after the competition because at least, I had got some experience in the singing
competition.
Life is not just a bed of roses. There are thorns (刺) as well, but these thorns help us become braver and better.
When life offers us a lemon, let’s try to make a lemonade.
20.Who bought her that expensive dress?
A.Her mother B.Her father
C.Her brother D.Her sister

Ryan Griffin, a barber in a town in the U. S., introduced the idea at his barbershop: The price for a haircut would be
two dollars lower for the kids who read a book out loud to their barbers. In this way, he encouraged his young customers

Passage 2
Researchers have used high technology to learn about a famous painting by the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer.
The painting is called Girl with a Pearl Earring. Vermeer was considered as one of the greatest art masters during the
Dutch Golden Age of painting in the 1600s.
The researchers’ tests have found out important information about how Vermeer did the painting. He began making
the work with brown and black paints on a piece of cloth. Then, he drew the girl’s outline (轮廓) in black before working
from the green background to the foreground.
A careful examination even showed where some of the paints came from. The white came from the Peak District in
northern England. The blue was made from a valuable stone found in Afghanistan. The red was made from insects living
in Mexico and South America.
Abbie Vandivere was the leader of the research project. She expressed surprise that Vermeer used so much blue in
the painting, noting, “The blue paint was more valuable than gold in the 17th century.” Vermeer, however, did not travel
around the world to get the paints. He most probably bought them in his hometown of Delft.

Passage 2
British people are famous for saying sorry in almost every situation. They say “sorry” for asking a question, for
their bad weather or because they sneezed (打喷嚏).
British people pride themselves on their polite manners towards one another in public. As a result, they use the word
“sorry” quite a lot — even when they don’t really mean it! Usually, if they want to ask a stranger for the time, they would
start by saying, “Sorry to bother you. Do you know what time it is?” If they are five minutes late for a date, they would
generally greet the person by saying, “Sorry, I’m late!”
That they say sorry does not only mean they feel sad for someone else because of their problems or bad luck. In the
dictionary, “sorry” also means feeling regret because they have done something wrong. And now, think about this.
Normally, when they want to ask a stranger a question, they start with “Sorry to bother you” In this situation, they aren’t
saying sorry because they feel sad for that person or because they feel regret.
In the British culture, saying sorry, in general, is a way to be polite, especially to people who they don’t know very
well. Besides, it can also bring them other benefits (好处) in their daily life. In a recent experiment (试验), an actor asked
different strangers on a rainy day if he could use their mobile phones to make a call. When he asked one group of
strangers and asked them without saying sorry first, he was only 9% successful in borrowing their phones. However,
when he said sorry to another group of strangers about the bad weather before asking if he could use their mobile phones,
he was 47% successful. So maybe saying “sorry” is not just being polite, but it is also a good method to get what you
want!

Passage 2
Many parents have heard the term “social-emotional development,” but what does it mean? Put simply, it refers to
the gradual growth of children’s ability to “experience, manage and express” their feelings, build relationships and
explore their environment. “It’s understanding how our bodies and minds feel and think in relationship to the world
around us,” says Dr. Mary Hadley, who has spent 15 years helping adults and children communicate.
1
Social-emotional development changes as a child grows. A mother providing a feeling of safety for her baby begins
the child’s process of healthy social-emotional development. As children enter school, they develop the ability to control
their emotions and work well with others. Just as children never give up learning, social-emotional development doesn’t
stagnate.
In primary school, students get themselves involved in play-based skills, learn to express themselves and practice
empathy(共情) for others. Development in middle school looks similar, Hadley says. “We can help students to
understand that everyone experiences emotions, both good and bad. And the way their bodies and minds feel will affect
their social communication.” she says. Yet, while middle-schoolers can express their feelings, they also sometimes hide
their thoughts, Roberson-Moore says. This can raise some challenges. “At the high school level, relationships with
groups become very important,” says Kelly Oriard, a family expert(专家). As teenagers understand where they fit in the
world, it is normal and healthy for them to build relationships outside of their family.
Building Social-Emotional Skills at Home
When it comes to social-emotional development, parents are a primary resource for children, and experts say thereare many ways to help.
First, share your feelings with your children, and accept their feelings as well, Hadley says. For example, you can
say to a shouting child, “Your voice is loud. You must be very mad that it’s time to turn off the TV.” Second, prioritize(优
先考虑) family time. Even as children grow older, they can benefit from family time. Eating meals or working on a
project together can open up time for conversation, which support your child’s emotional health. Third, encourage your
children’s interests. You may not join in their football practice, but try to listen and take interest in the activities they
value. This can lead to a healthy connection. “Raising healthy children truly takes a village,” Hadley says. “School
teachers and social workers are also wonderful resources.”
94.Which could be the best heading for Paragraphs 2 & 3?

Adults often say things like, “Kid were so young when something terrible happened that they wouldn’t even

When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandmother always took me to the
orchard (果园) on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill to halfway up the hill.Even though we worked so hard, the production level of fruit was still low because it was short of water there.
One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and
later, canals and other projects began to be built in my village, “Who are they?” I asked. “They are good men from our

to be a park there but they have cut down all the trees, which is a pity. The library now has a large green area in front of it
but it’s not the same as when the park was there.

Passage 1Viridiana is a Mexican girl who spent three years working in Montreal, Canada. Now she’s back in Mexico and tells
some differences between Mexico and Canada.
Viridiana says one of the main differences is the weather. In Mexico they don’t have cold winter, while in Canada
the temperature can drop to around -20°C. People there are used to it because they have heating in their houses and
they wear thick coats and special shoes when they go out.
If you go to the bus stop, you’ll find shelters that protect people from snow. Buses are always on time. If you take a
taxi, you need to call it ahead of time and pay more for it. If you want to use your car, you should leave enough time
because it gets frozen easily.
Although it’s cold, you’ll find stores and restaurants are open. To buy something in a store, you’re supposed to pay
the tax (税) which is usually 15% of the price.
If you have dinner in a common restaurant, you’ll pay about $25 for each person on average (平均). And you have
to tip (付小费) 15% of the bill. Don’t expect to buy fruit or vegetables cheaply because they aren’t produced in Canada.
For example, just one apple can cost you over $2.

Passage 2
Nowadays, we have kinds of technologies that can protect us from different disasters (灾难). With them, we even
know where and when some disasters, like the typhoon, will hit. While most of the new technologies are far away from
us, some around us can help people in disasters. The drone (无人机) is one of them. It can be used to send food, water and important things when a natural disaster
happens. Very often the buildings are too dangerous for rescue (救援) teams to get in, but they can make the drone fly
into the buildings to search for those who are still alive first.
Social media is also a useful tool when it comes to natural disasters. With its help, people can know about the
natural disasters earlier. And some social media platforms (平台) allow people to mark themselves as safe after disasters
so others can know their status (状态). Social media is also a place for the latest news, so people can learn what is going
on in the disaster areas. Besides, many social media platforms allow people to donate money to help people in disaster
areas. The money will help them get back to their normal life as soon as possible. For example, live-streaming (直播)
helped raise a lot of money for Henan after the flood in 2021.
Although these technologies can help when there is a natural disaster, we still need to prepare necessary tools and
learn important skills to protect ourselves.

Have you ever heard of e-waste, which can be produced every day? How do you deal with your computers, MP4
players and mobile phones when they’re broken or you want a new one?
Most people just throw them away. With the development of the electronic industry, e-waste pollution has become a
serious problem. According to the United Nations, in 2014, people around the world produced 41.8 million tons of e-
waste but only recycled 6.5 million tons. The US was the biggest waster, producing 7.1 million tons. China came second
with 6 million tons.
It’s important to pay attention to e-waste. It can either be valuable or harmful, depending on how we deal with it. E-
waste is a valuable urban mine (城市矿藏). The value of the metals, like gold and silver in the waste around the world, is
amazing. And the metals can be reused. But if people throw them away, the toxic (有毒的) chemicals can get into the soil
or air, affecting the environment and people’s health.
Apple, for example, now recycles people’s used products in China when they are buying new ones. The company
will test and repair the used ones and sell them at lower prices. To help reduce e-waste, we can also take computers and
phone to see if companies offer recycling programs.

Passage 1In ancient China, willow branches (柳枝) were often used as a gift to friends and family members who would leave.
Do you know why willow branches are a symbol of saying goodbye?
One reason is that willow trees are strong. They can live in any soil, wet or dry, north or south. Because of this
special feature, when saying goodbye to loved ones, giving a willow branch is a way to tell them you hope they will
easily get used to their new living environment.
Another reason is that, in Chinese, the pronunciation for the willow tree “柳” is similar to the character “留”. So
giving a willow branch in ancient China was like asking the others to stay, even though you know that they must leave.
It’s said that this custom became popular during the Han Dynasty. At that time, Baqiao, a bridge in Chang’an,
today’s Xi’an, was a common place to say goodbye. People often stopped there and handed willow branches to people
who were going to depart.

There are many islands in the sea. In its warm waters there are some little ones. We call them “coral islands(珊瑚
岛)”.
A coral island looks like a ring of land(一圈陆地)with trees, grass, and flowers on it. One part of the ring is open to
the water. There is a little round lake inside the island.
If you look into this lake, you will see beautiful coral. You may think they are flowers. If you look at a piece of
coral, you will see many little holes in it. In each of these holes a very small sea animal has lived. These sea animals
make the coral.
They began to build under the water. Year after year, the coral grew higher and higher. At last it grew out of the
water.
Then the sea brought it small trees and something else. After some years, these things changed into earth.
Sometimes the wind brought seeds (种子) to this earth. Sometimes birds flew over it and brought seeds to the island.
The little seeds grew. In a few years there were plants all over the island. In a few more years there were trees

Passage 3
Humpback whales are always known to be intelligent animals and can be seen working together to hunt schools of
small fish. And, if you listen closely, you might even hear one singing.
Dr. Jim Darling has studied whale songs for more than 25 years.
While recording whale songs on a boat near Hawaii, he invited author Douglas Chadwick to experience diving with
a humpback. In the water, Chadwick heard the whale’s songs in a way he had never heard them before. “Suddenly, I no
longer heard the whale’s voice in my ears,” he said. “I felt it inside my head and bones.”
When swimming with the whale, Chadwick could see that the 13-meter-long giant looked him over curiously, but
never harmed him. The whale then swam under the boat. It pointed its head down to the ocean floor and, with flippers
(鳍)extended out(伸展)to its sides, began to sing. Up in the boat, Darling recorded the whale’s song. Humpback
whale songs can be long and difficult to understand, sometimes lasting for 30 minutes or more. They are perhaps the
longest songs sung by any animal.
Darling says that only male(雄性的) humpbacks sing, but for unknown reasons. It was thought before that they
sang to attract females, but scientists showed this was incorrect when they played recordings of whale songs in the ocean
and the female whales didn’t make any response. Another idea is that male humpbacks use songs just to compete with
each other.
Researchers have also found that humpback whale songs are different in different parts of the world. They may also
be like popular songs on the radio, changing over time—from one year to the next.
Another member of the research team, Flip Nicklin, recalls a special moment he had while interacting with a
humpback. While he was some distance away from the huge animal, he heard its song. Slowly the humpback got closer
to him. It then stopped singing and gently carried Nicklin toward its eye with a flipper, as if examining him.
Still, there is so much the scientists don’t know, and years of study lie ahead for whale researchers like Jim Darling.
152.What is the passage mainly about?A.How to record humpbacks in the ocean. B.Special moments with humpback whales.
C.How humpbacks communicate with people. D.Humpback songs and what they might mean.
153.What happened when whale songs were played in the ocean?
A.No schools of fish came over.
B.No female whales were attracted.
C.Male whales extended out their flippers gently.

Passage 1
“Welcome to our new ‘classroom’!” said Chen Dong, one of the three astronauts of the Shenzhou XIV mission.
They were giving a science class 400 kilometers above Earth on Oct. 12th. It was the third space class from the Tiangong
space station, but the first one from the Wentian lab module (实验舱) since its launch in July. The former two classes
were held in the Tianhe core module (核心舱).
What does the new “classroom” look like? Chen, together with Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe, showed us around. “The
beds in the Tianhe module are placed horizontally (横着), while our beds are kept upright,” said Liu. That means
astronauts in the Wentian lab module need to sleep standing up! But as Liu explained, people don’t feel any difference
because there’s no gravity (重力) in space. Astronauts can even sleep on the ceiling (天花板) or upside down!
The astronauts also showed their “space farm”, where lettuce, wheat (小麦), thale cress (拟南芥) and rice are
grown. “Take a picture!” “Send the picture!” Through a voice-controlled camera, Chen already sent a picture of the thale
cress to scientists on Earth. Then he used scissors to cut a sample (样本). “I’ll put it into a fridge at -80℃ and later give it
to scientists on Earth,” said Chen. Scientists will study how the environment of space affects the growth of plants.
“Can you see the water drops coming from the leaves? This is called ‘guttation’ (植物吐水现象),” said Liu, holding
the well-grown rice. In space, the water drops are much bigger than those on Earth. So people can clearly see the
guttation.

two years. We made hundreds of improvements to the materials and design of the shoes to better meet the astronauts’
needs. Seeing the astronauts wearing them in space made us proud,” Zheng said.
Chinese characters were added on the soles (鞋底) of the shoes. Written in ancient Zhuan style, the characters read
“jiu tian lan yue”. Their meaning is to catch the moon in the highest point in the sky. The words are part of a poem
written by Li Bai from the Tang Dynasty.
Astronaut clothing worn in the space station is also designed at Donghua University. The names of each astronaut
are written on their clothes, and the number of the stars under their names exactly shows the times they have been in
space. And there is a V-shaped strip (条) on their shirts. It stands for victory and the best wishes of every Chinese.160.Which of the following statements is true according to this passage?

be able to take all the food they will need. So they may have to grow some of it on lunar farms.
But can plants grow on the moon? Maybe. That is according to a new study. Scientists used soil brought back from
past moon missions(任务). They used it to grow plants here on Earth. It turns out, success could depend on where on the
moon you do your planting.
In the 1960s and 1970s, NASA ran the Apollo program. It sent astronauts to the moon. In the new study, scientists
used soil that astronauts collected there.
Scientists put this soil in little cups. Each cup got about a teaspoon of lunar soil. Other cups got Earth soil. The
scientists planted seeds. They watered the soil. They put the cups under growth lights.
In the Earth soil, plants sprouted healthy leaves. Moon soil sprouted leaves too. But those plants were smaller. And
they were less healthy. The older the moon soil, the worse the plants grew.Stephen Elardo is one of the scientists. He says it still might be possible to grow plants on the moon. The key(关键)
could be finding the right spot. One example may be where volcanoes(火山) once broken. The soil is newer there.
Scientists still have much to learn. But this study brings humans one step closer to calling the moon home.
