C.To help old bees get energy.
【答案】18.B 19.A 20.A
Honeybees (蜜蜂) are well known for their hard-working nature. But did you know they’re
also excellent dancers? These useful little insects use a special dance as a way to communicate
with each other about the location of the food source. Scientists have been studying this type of
dance since the 1940s. As a result, we now know quite a bit about this secret bee language. The
direction of the bee’s dance refers to the position of the food source in relation to the nest. The
length of the dance tells other bees how far away the food source is. Honeybees will also adapt
their dances according to the quality of the food source. The better quality the food has, the more
energetic the dance will be. Researchers believe that the dance probably began as a way for bees
to find and choose a nest site. It wasn’t until later that they started to use it to find food. It’s also
believed that dancing is not the behavior the bees are born with. Instead, young bees must learn it
from their elders. It is an interesting example of just how complex insect societies can be.

B
I often take walks in the middle of my writing day. One afternoon, I returned home, looked
at my front door, and felt how normal and safe it seemed. Then a question occurred to me: What if
I came back and found the door wide open? That simple idea became the seed for my novel Gone
Girl.
Around that time, I watched many true-crime shows, in which the husband was often the
“bad guy”. But in my story, the husband would not be completely innocent, nor completely evil.
No story comes to a writer in full form. Gone Girl changed hugely when I was writing it. At
first, I wrote only from Nick’s point of view. Amy’s voice was missing. To understand her, I wrote
short exercises. One of them later became the now-famous “cool girl” passage. I also imagined
many possible endings — should Amy be recognized by strangers, or even be killed? In the end, I
felt Nick and Amy were locked in a special, troubling bond. They harmed each other, yet
depended on each other.
My years as a journalist helped me accept that a first draft is always rough. The writing
process was no mystery to me; I knew no sudden inspiration would come to fix it. I had to solve
the problems myself. Many people give up because their first draft feels terrible. But all first drafts
are like that.
While writing Gone Girl, I had many doubts. The story had no clear hero, and the biggest
surprise came in the middle, not the end. I liked the idea, and luckily my editors did too, but none
of us knew whether readers would enjoy it. To our relief, booksellers supported it early on. The
novel entered the bestseller list at number two and soon reached number one.
I do not expect to repeat my success. I’m going to write other great books, but there’s never
going to be another Gone Girl. That was just pure lightning in a bottle and I was lucky to be there
for it.
24.What first inspired the author to write Gone Girl?
A.A dream about danger.
B.A true-crime TV show.
C.A thought about her door.
D.Her husband’s strange behavior.
25.What does the author think about first drafts?
A.They can be perfect. B.They usually show final style.
C.They are usually far from perfect. D.They should be brief to the point.
26.What can we infer about the novel’s early reception?
A.Readers disliked its lack of a clear hero.
B.It was rejected by booksellers immediately.
C.It faced strong criticism from true-crime fans.
D.Editors and booksellers showed early support.
27.What does the underlined part “lightning in a bottle” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.A long-time effort.
B.A rare lucky event.
C.A common success.
D.A well-planned result.
One afternoon, I returned home, looked at my front door,
and felt how normal and safe it seemed. Then a question occurred to me: What if I came back and
found the door wide open? That simple idea became the seed for my novel Gone Girl.(一天下午,
My years as a journalist helped me accept that a first draft
I liked the idea, luckily my editors did too, but none of us
knew whether readers would enjoy it. To our relief, booksellers supported it early on.(我喜欢这个
I do not expect to repeat my success. I’m going to write
other great books, but there’s never going to be another Gone Girl. That was just pure lightning in
a bottle and I was lucky to be there for it.(我不期望重复我的成功。
那只是lightning in a bottle,我很幸运能参与其中。)”
“lightning in a bottle”意思是“a rare lucky event(罕见的幸运事件)”,故选B 项。
C
Economic crises often bring sharp increases in food prices, which hit certain
groups the hardest. Urban residents and families with less education are especially vulnerable.
These price shocks can cause long-term health problems, including stunted growth in children.
When parents cannot afford enough food, the consequences last for a lifetime.
Researchers from the University of Bonn studied the lasting impacts of the Asian financial
crisis in the late 1990s. During that time, turmoil in financial markets caused rice prices to surge in
Indonesia, where rice is the main staple food. The study found that this sudden rise in food costs
left clear marks on the physical development of children. The findings were published in a famous
journal, showing how money problems turn into health problems.
The researchers analyzed data from a long-running survey tracking households over many
years. They compared regional differences in rice price inflation with body measurements
recorded during childhood and later in early adulthood. Elza S. Elmira, the lead author, noted that
the price rise increased chronic malnutrition Children severely affected not only
remained shorter than their peers but also became more prone to obesity later in life. This seems
strange, but there is a reason.
Why does malnutrition lead to obesity? In times of crisis, families save less on calories than
on expensive, nutrient-rich foods. They buy cheap rice to fill their stomachs but skip meat,
vegetables, and fruits. This results in a "hidden deficiency" of important micronutrients, which
slows down height growth without necessarily reducing body weight. The study found these
effects were strongest in cities, where people rely on buying food, and among children whose
mothers had lower levels of education. Rural families who grow their own rice were safer.
Prof. Dr. Matin Qaim emphasized that deprivation in early childhood can have lifelong
effects. He warned that if food policy only focuses on calories, it might miss the real problem.
Governments must protect children in sensitive development stages. As shocks to food prices
become more common due to conflicts and extreme weather, learning from the past is crucial. We
must ensure that children get balanced diets, not just enough food to survive. Otherwise, a
generation may suffer silently from poor health forever.
28. What made urban families suffer more than rural ones during the crisis?
A. They ate less rice than rural people.
B. They depended on buying food at high prices.
C. They had mothers with higher education levels.
D. They lived in areas with extreme weather conditions.
29. Why did some malnourished children become obese later in life?
A. They ate too much cheap food lacking nutrients.
B. They stopped growing taller but kept gaining weight.
C. They preferred high-calorie foods over healthy meals.
D. They exercised less after the financial crisis ended.
30. What can be inferred about the role of mothers’ education?
A. Educated mothers could grow their own rice easily.
B. Less educated mothers knew less about balanced diets.
C. Higher education prevented all health problems completely.
D. Mothers’ education had no effect on children’s growth.
31. What is the main purpose of Prof. Qaim’s warning?
A. To suggest stopping all food price increases.
B. To call for better nutrition-focused crisis policies.
C. To ask researchers to study more countries.
D. To encourage families to move to rural areas.
B 29. A 30. B 31. B
The study found these effects were strongest in
cities, where people rely on buying food..." 可知,城市家庭受影响最大是因为他们依赖购买
食物(而在危机中食物价格飙升),而农村家庭有些可以自己种植大米。选项B 准确概括
了这一点。选项A 文中未提及吃得少;选项C 与文意相反(文中说受教育程度低的母亲影
响更大);选项D 是背景原因,不是城乡差异的直接原因。
29.推理判断题。根据文章第四段中间部分 "In times of crisis, families save less on calories
than on expensive, nutrient-rich foods... This results in a 'hidden deficiency'..." 可知,家庭为了
省钱,购买了能提供热量但缺乏营养的廉价食物(如大米),导致隐性营养不良,从而引
起身高增长受阻但体重未减甚至增加(肥胖)。选项A "吃了太多缺乏营养的廉价食物" 符
合这一逻辑推导。选项B 是现象描述而非原因;选项C 文中未提及偏好;选项D 文中未提
及运动量变化。
30.推理判断题。文章最后一段提到 "Especially in cities and in places with low knowledge
about balanced diets, a price shock can worsen the quality of nutrition..." 并结合前文提到受教
育程度低的母亲的孩子受影响更大,可以推断出受教育程度较低的母亲可能缺乏关于均衡
饮食的知识,因此在危机中更难做出正确的食物选择。选项B 符合推断。选项A 无依据;
If food policy is only concerned
about calories, it can miss the real problem." 以及 "it must specifically protect children in
sensitive development stages." 他的警告旨在强调政策制定者不能只关注热量供给,而要制
定关注营养均衡的危机政策。选项B "呼吁更好的以营养为重点的危机政策" 最符合其意
图。选项A 不现实;选项C 和D 并非其警告的核心目的。

(原创题)A recent study suggests that the fruits and vegetables we eat can directly affect
the amount of pesticide chemicals in our bodies. Conducted by scientists, the research highlights a
clear link between diet and exposure to these harmful substances. While eating fresh produce is
vital for good health, it may also bring unwanted chemicals into our system if not chosen
carefully.
The study found that people who frequently consumed certain items known for high pesticide
residues had higher levels of these chemicals in their urine. These items included popular choices
like strawberries, spinach, and bell peppers. In contrast, those who selected produce with lower
residue levels showed significantly less exposure. This indicates that what we choose to put on our
plates plays a major role in our overall chemical intake. Young children and pregnant women are
noted as being particularly vulnerable to the potential harms of these chemicals.
Researchers reached these conclusions by analyzing data from government surveys and
health tests. They created a special scoring system to estimate how much pesticide a person might
consume based on their diet. By comparing these scores with urine samples from nearly two
thousand participants, they confirmed a strong connection. Interestingly, the link became clearer
only after removing potatoes from the analysis, as their various forms made accurate measurement
difficult. The study also revealed that current safety rules might not fully protect us, as they often
test chemicals one by one rather than considering the mixture of many residues found together on
food.
Despite these findings, experts strongly advise against stopping fruit and vegetable
consumption. Instead, they suggest being mindful of choices. One effective method to reduce
exposure is switching to organic options for the items known to carry higher residues. Studies
show that making this change can lower chemical levels in the body within just a few days.
Ultimately, the goal is to balance the need for a healthy diet with the desire to minimize exposure
to potentially harmful agricultural chemicals.
32. What did the study reveal about people eating strawberries and spinach?
A. They suffered from serious diseases immediately.
B. They had more pesticide markers in their urine.
C. They preferred organic food over conventional ones.
D. They avoided bell peppers to stay away from chemicals.
33. Why were potatoes excluded from the final data analysis?
A. They contained no pesticides at all.
B. They were not popular among participants.
C. Their diverse forms made measurement hard.
D. They lowered the overall score of the study.
34. What can be inferred about current pesticide safety standards?
A. They perfectly protect everyone from all risks.
B. They focus mainly on farm workers’ safety.
D. They may ignore the combined effect of mixed chemicals.
C. They forbid the use of any synthetic pesticides on food.
35. What is the experts’ suggestion for reducing pesticide intake?
A. Stop eating fruits and vegetables completely.
B. Wash all produce with special chemical solutions.
C. Choose organic versions for high-residue items.
D. Only eat potatoes instead of other vegetables.
B 33. C 34. D 35.C
The study found that people who frequently
consumed certain items known for high pesticide residues... had higher levels of these chemicals
in their urine." 以及提到的 "strawberries, spinach",可知经常食用这些高残留果蔬的人尿液
中的农药标记物含量更高。A 项“立即患重病”文中未提及;C 项和D 项属于无中生有或
逻辑错误。故选B。
33.细节理解题。根据文章第三段倒数第二句 "Interestingly, the link became clearer only after
removing potatoes from the analysis, as their various forms made accurate measurement difficult."

Bathrooms are naturally damp and steamy. Even with regular cleaning, moisture ( 潮湿)
stays around. Among work, family, and a social life, cleaning every wall hard daily is almost
impossible. And that’s exactly when mold (霉菌) takes the opportunity to grow.
Recently, a friend noticed yellow stuff falling down her bathroom walls. Naturally, I
panicked and wanted answers fast. 36 Its tiny particles (颗粒) float through the air and
settle in damp spots. Once there, mold spreads rapidly.
37 Certain types can cause allergic reactions, breathing issues, and long-lasting
health problems if left unchecked. Bathrooms, with their constant moisture, are prime breeding
grounds. Mold grows well in warm, damp conditions. After a shower, steam turns to water on
walls and ceilings. 38 Mold often starts in corners or near pipe parts, then spreads
quickly if ignored.
The key to prevention is controlling moisture. Let fresh air into your bathroom by opening a
window or running an exhaust fan during and after showers. 39 If mold already
appears, act fast. For surfaces that don’t absorb water, a bleach and water mix works well. For
hard-to remove mold or chemical sensitivities, vinegar and a hydrogen-based cleaning liquid are
safer choices. Always wear gloves and a mask to protect your skin and lungs.
Keeping your bathroom clean and dry is the best defense. Let fresh air in regularly, clean
frequently, and consider a machine that reduces dampness in damp areas. If the problem gets out
of hand, calling professionals is wise. 40
A.Mold isn’t just ugly — it’s dangerous.
B.Without proper airflow, this moisture stays around.
C.Even with good airflow, moisture doesn’t go away.
D.Mold grows wherever moisture, meets organic matter.
E.Wipe surfaces sometimes, especially areas easy to get wet.
F.Dry surfaces regularly, especially those likely to get water drops.
G.Maintaining a clean environment ensures a healthy home for everyone.

56.established 57.stability 58.by 59.safer 60.has grown 61.where
62.holds 63.earning 64.and 65.treasures
The
first five national parks
established。

where。故填where。

Growing up in Istanbul, Turkey, I was accustomed to seeing street cats all over the city. But
one yellow tabby with beautiful brown eyes captured my heart. We played our version of hide-
and-seek around the yard — he would sneak up from behind a tree until he reached me, and I
would act startled. I named him Skippy.
Our bond soon traveled beyond the boundaries of our yard. Every morning, he would walk
me to school. Every afternoon, he’d wait at our home entrance, recognize my footsteps regardless
of which shoes I was wearing, and meow his greeting. My mother, worried about germs,
established a strict rule — Skippy was to remain an outdoor cat. However, love knows no rules.
Each night, he would secretly slip in through my window, sleeping warmly at my feet. At sunrise,
I’d let him out, only for him to run to me as if we hadn’t seen each other for ages.
This routine continued for seven years. Then came a life-altering decision: I was going to
the United States for college — the hardest choice I’d ever made. Before departure, I hugged
Skippy tight, not knowing how to explain that I wouldn’t return from school that day.
Life in the U.S. was busy, but my thoughts often drifted back to Istanbul. In every phone
call to my mother, I asked about Skippy. At first, she hesitated. Finally, months later, she sighed
softly and broke the news, “He kept coming to your window. Eventually, he stopped eating and
disappeared. I’m sorry sweetheart, but he is likely gone.”
There was silence on the phone, interrupted by the sound of my sobbing.

One year later, I flew back for winter break with a mixed feeling of excitement and sadness.
I was happy to return home, but my heart was heavy with sorrow. The yard felt cold and quiet
without Skippy’s warm greetings. I went to my room, gently touching the window he used to
climb through. Memories of our seven years together rushed in — walking to school, playing
hide-and-seek, and sleeping together at night. My mother rested her hand on my arm. The hush
was deafening, amplifying the guilt simmering inside me since I left. Blinking back tears, I
whispered an apology to the air, convinced that my faithful companion was lost forever.
Suddenly, a flash of movement outside the window of my room made me freeze. I held my
breath, wondering if it was just a fantasy. To my great surprise, a yellow tabby with beautiful
brown eyes appeared. It was Skippy! I opened the window immediately and called his name. He
looked at me, then gave a soft and familiar meow, rubbing my hand gently. Tears of joy ran down
my face. Some bonds are too deep to be broken by time or distance, and true love always waits.
