Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway Enters Track-Laying Stage

On October 1, the first 500-metre steel rail was lowered into place at Nanchong North Station in Sichuan Province, marking the official start of track laying on the Chengdu-Dazhou-Wanzhou High-Speed Railway. The line, a key part of China's high-speed rail grid, starts at Tianfu Station in Chengdu and runs east, connecting with an existing railway at Wanzhou North Station in Chongqing.

According to Guo Rui, a project commander of China Railway No. 3 Engineering Group, the whole line requires about 890 kilometres of track, including 178 sets of switches. The main line is 477 kilometres long, and trains are designed to run at 350 kilometres an hour. Bridge foundations and piers have already been completed, while tunnel and station work is being carried forward as planned.

Nanchong North Station was chosen because it lies in the middle of the route, which allows rails to be laid in both directions. In Dazhou and Suining, steep slopes and long tunnel groups make the task harder, so engineers adjusted the machines and wrote special plans for the tunnels. Once the railway opens, which is expected in 2027, the trip from Chengdu to Wanzhou will be cut to less than two hours.

China Science and Technology Museum Launches National Day Science Programme

With the National Day holiday beginning on October 1, the China Science and Technology Museum in Beijing has remained open and launched a themed programme titled "Happy National Day, Curious about the Future". The programme is divided into several sections, including a science carnival, science exploration, a science camp and a class devoted to ancient Chinese technology.

In the science carnival, audiences can watch original science plays, magic shows and bubble shows, and they may also follow young guides to explore the Tianhe core module. In another section, deep-sea technology has been turned into a maze and puzzle experience called "Deep Blue Pulse", a practice that has gained recognition from the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science.

Pit No. 2 of the Terracotta Army Reopens After Full Upgrade

After more than half a year of renovation, the exhibition hall of Pit No. 2 at the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang in Xi'an was reopened to the public on October 1. Since it first welcomed visitors on 14 October 1994, the pit has been a core site for studying the military system, battle formations, craftsmanship and technology of the Qin Dynasty, and its hall is the largest of the three pits.

The upgraded display has been given the title "Bow Ready, Chariots Racing, Horsemen Leaping", which presents the pit as a combination of crossbowmen, war chariots and cavalry. Ten groups of content have been arranged, ranging from the archaeological history of the pit to its building structure and the formation of the army, so that visitors can follow the story in any order they choose.

To make the site easier to understand, multimedia screens, mixed-reality reconstructions and dynamic light projections have been installed inside the pit.
