I was a young man finishing up my teaching degree at college. One day, I was driving to a
high school to do my teaching practice in my 20-year-old car. It was not too much to say that it
was a piece of rubbish. It had broken down several times and every time my dad fixed it. Still, it
burned oil, backfired, and got about 5 miles on a gallon of gas. It had also had flat tires more than
once so I had some repair tools and a spare tire in my trunk (后备箱). It was all I could afford,
though, hoping that it would last one more day.
As I drove down the way to the school, I noticed something up ahead on the other side of
the road. It was a car parked to the side. As I got closer, I noticed that it had a flat tire. An elderly
lady was standing next to it, not knowing what to do.
I knew I would be late for class but decided to turn at the next exit, head back to her, and
help It took about five minutes but I made the turn. I was almost back when I saw two pick-up
trucks parked in front and back of the car.
A man in a blue shirt was already jacking (顶起) up the car while another strong-looking
man was talking to the elderly lady and holding her hand like he were her own grandson. I slowed,
pulled up, and asked if they needed any help. The lady said, “No, thanks, dear. These wonderful
gentlemen are taking care of it.”
I was touched by the two men. I stopped the car and went out to show my respect for them.
They told me they were Mike and Peter, and that they were “Rescue (救援) on Road” memberswhose main task was to repair broken-down vehicles on the road and help drivers in trouble. After
the simple chat, I continued to drive to the high school.

45.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Emma, a high school student in a small town, was an animal lover and often volunteered atthe local animal shelter. One sunny Saturday morning, Emma went to the shelter as usual. She was
planning to spend the whole day taking care of the animals there.
When she arrived, she found that a new litter of puppies had just been brought in. They
were so cute and tiny, but they seemed a bit scared in the new environment. Emma’s heart went
out to them immediately. She started by cleaning their cages and giving them fresh food and water.
Then she sat down on the floor and gently picked up one of the puppies. The puppy was shaking a
little, but as Emma stroked (抚摸) its soft fur and spoke softly to it, it gradually calmed down.
While Emma was playing with the puppies, an old man with sad eyes walked into the
shelter. He was in rags (衣衫褴褛). He looked around and his eyes stopped on the puppies. Emma
noticed him and asked if he was interested in adopting a pet. The old man said he lost his dog a
few months ago and had been feeling very lonely ever since. He thought maybe a puppy could
bring some joy back into his life.
Emma was very excited to hear that. She showed the old man all the puppies. The old man
seemed to like a little brown puppy the most. He said this brown puppy looked so much like the
dog he had lost several months ago. He kept stroking the puppy, with his eyes full of affection. But
when he asked about the adoption (收养) process, he found out that he needed to pay an adoption
fee and also provide some proof (证明) of his living conditions. The old man’s face fell. He said
he lived a hard life and didn’t have all the necessary papers with him. Emma clearly felt the old
man’s disappointment and she was eager to help him.

46.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“You include too many safety schools,” this was the same comment from all my teachers,
family, and friends about my list of colleges. “Why not choose more reach schools? It’s harder to
get their offer, but I have confidence in you,” my mom said to me, confused. “I’m afraid of being
rejected (拒绝) by every university,” I murmured faintly.
As a child, I was always cautious and alert, attempting to minimize every possibility of risk
or danger. My early years were characterized by careful preparation and a never-ending search for
safety. I can still clearly recall my first day of kindergarten when I tightly gripped my mother’s
hand until my knuckles (指关节) turned white. It was impossible to face the overpowering fear of
the unknown and entering a room full of strangers. But I overcame them, as I have overcome
many fears, by learning to take baby steps toward my goals.
There were new challenges in high school. My biggest fear was public speaking, but I
realized that the only way to get over it was to tackle it head-on. There were painful moments in
the beginning. My thoughts would race, and my voice would tremble. I encountered sharp
objections and “heart-hurting” comments, but I became more assured and accomplished with
every opportunity before the class. I discovered how to use my fear as motivation to write better
drafts, encounter accidents, and improve my public speaking. Eventually, my English teacher
chose me as the host of our school’s Foreign Language Reading Festival at the end of the
semester. I distinguished myself by giving a persuasive speech on English reading abilities and
won tremendous applause.

1.续写词数应为80左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。Creating my school list was a difficult process filled with countless worries and fears, but I
