Osei Boateng, who grew up in a small village in southern Ghana, watched many of his family members and
neighbors struggle to access basic health care. In many regions of the country, people spend hours getting to the
nearest hospital.
Driven by a strong sense of urgency to lend a hand, Boateng established his non- profit organization, the
OKB Hope Foundation. In 2021, he turned a van into a mobile doctor’s office and started bringing health care
directly to those in need.
A few times a week, the mobile clinic and medical team travel long distances to remote communities in
Ghana and provide free routine medical care. In the van, they can run basic labs like bloodwork as well as provide
medications.
Since it was established, the mobile clinic has served more than 4,000 citizens across more than 45 ruralcommunities who otherwise don’t have easily accessible medical care and has got much praise. “I am very
impressed by the service they provide, and that is the best chance for us rural people to get the treatment we want,”
said Abraham, one of Boateng’s neighbors.
Boateng’s organization has also trained 20 volunteers to serve as local health advocates. They check people’s
vital signs, such as blood pressure and glucose (葡萄糖) levels, and provide the medical team with timely data for
assessing how to move forward with care and treatment, especially for those whose health is at risk.
In the future, Boateng wants to broaden the reach of his efforts to deliver medical services, not only to
Ghana’s remote regions but also to other nations across the globe. “I believe that our model can be copied in Sub-
Saharan Africa,” he said. “So, the goal is to really develop strategic partnerships and get additional mobile health
vans for the communities or the regions that we want to serve.”
24.What motivated Boateng to launch the OKB Hope Foundation?
A.The dream of impressing his family members and neighbors.
B.The hope of creating jobs for medical professionals in Ghana.
C.The barrier to basic health care in his community.
D.The drive to raise people’s awareness of health.
25.Why does the author mention Abraham in paragraph 4?
A.To show the mobile clinic has served many people.
B.To imply the positive impact of the mobile clinic.
C.To judge the service provided by the mobile clinic.
D.To describe the current situation of the citizens.
26.What role do the local health advocates play?
A.They assist patients to get their medicine.
B.They help the doctors to analyze data.
C.They keep the medical facilities in good condition.
D.They examine the patients before further treatment.
27.What is Boateng’s long- term vision for the OKB Hope Foundation?
A.To expand the mobile clinic service beyond his country.
B.To work with other nations to promote his organization.
C.To establish a national health insurance system in Ghana.
D.To build a large hospital in every rural community in Ghana.
CCan artificial intelligence be made to tell the truth? Probably not, but the developers of large language
model(LLM) chatbots should be legally required to reduce the risk of errors, says a team of ethicists (伦理学家).
“What we’re just trying to do is to create a structure to get the companies to put a greater emphasis on truth or
accuracy when they are creating the systems,” says Brent Mittelstadt at the University of Oxford.
LLM chatbots, such as ChatGPT, generate human-like responses to users’ questions, based on statistical
analysis of vast amounts of text. But although their answers usually appear convincing, they also tend to have
“hallucination”. “We have these really, really impressive generative AI systems, but they get things wrong very
frequently, and as far as we can understand the basic functioning of the systems, there’s no fundamental way to
revamp that,” says Mittelstadt.
This is a “very big problem” for LLM systems, given they are being rolled out to be used in a variety of
contexts, such as government decisions, where it is important they produce factually correct, truthful answers, and
are honest about the limitations of their knowledge, he says.
To address the problem, Mittelstadt and his colleagues propose a range of measures. They say large language
models should react in a similar way to how people would when asked factual questions. That means being honest
about what you do and don’t know. “It’s about doing the necessary steps to actually be careful in what you are
claiming,” says Mittelstadt. This seems like a praiseworthy aim, but Eerke Boiten at De Montfort University, UK,
questions whether the ethicists’ demand is technically practical. “I don’t understand how they expect legal
requirements to mandate what I see as fundamentally technologically impossible,” he says.
Mittelstadt and his colleagues do suggest some more straightforward steps that could make LLMs more
truthful. The models should link to sources, he says — something that many of them now do to evidence their
claims, while the wider use of a technique known as “retrieval enhanced generation” to come up with answers
could limit the likelihood of “hallucinations”.
28.What is the main concern of the ethicists regarding LLM chatbots?
A.The enormous development cost. B.The ethical decisions made by AI.
C.Its inability to guarantee truthfulness. D.Its efficiency in processing texts.
29.What does the underlined word “revamp” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Ignore. B.Fix. C.Discover. D.Escape.
30.What is Eerke Boiten’s attitude towards the ethicists’ proposals for LMs?
A.Tolerant. B.Conservative. C.Enthusiastic. D.Skeptical.
31.Which of the following is suggested as a step to make LLMs more truthful?A.Linking to relevant sources. B.Using more complex data statistics.
C.Encouraging user interaction. D.Reducing the size of the language models.

For shelter dogs, awaiting adoption can be stressful. Roughly 4.1 million dogs enter animal shelters in the
United’ States every single year. Dogs housed in shelters can face great stress due to noise and limited spaces,
which can reduce their overall well-being and impact their adoptability. A study published in the journal PLOS
ONE found that dogs kept together with companions showed fewer signs of stress and were even adopted more
quickly.
“Despite being a social species, dogs are often housed alone in shelters to reduce disease transmission and
possible injury from inter- dog conflicts. But this practice can work against dogs’ behavioral health and
adoptability,” study co-author and Virginia Tech University animal behavior psychologist Eric a Feuerbacher said in
a statement.“ We wanted to examine whether pair housing could be a useful intervention for improving shelter
dogs’ welfare.”
Prior studies have suggested that co-housing can produce behavioral and physiological benefits. These
studies have typically focused on laboratory dogs or dogs housed for more than six months at veterinary (兽医的)
schools. However, those results might not necessarily apply to shelter dogs, many of which have shorter lengths of
stay than those dogs studied. This study is the first to examine how U. S.-based shelter dogs perform in co-housing
vs. single-housing.
This new study followed 61 dogs, most of which had recently entered the Humane Society of Western
Montana. The team placed half of the dogs in co- housing with partners who were put together after a compatibility
(兼容) test. The other half were housed alone.
They observed the dogs over a week, recording common stress behaviors. These include lip-licking and
pulling back their ears. The team also took daily samples of the dogs’ urinary cortisol (尿皮质醇) to measure for
biological indicators of stress.
The dogs that were housed with a companion showed fewer stress behaviors. They were also adopted four
days sooner than the single-housed dogs on average. “Many potential adopters might already have a dog,”
Feuerbacher said. “Clearly exhibiting that a dog can successfully interact with other dogs might highlight those
dogs as good matches — leading to more successful adoptions.”
32.What is the aim of their study according to Erica Feuerbacher?
A.To test the effect of pair housing on shelter dogs.B.To reveal the situation of dogs in animal shelters.
C.To investigate the impact of stress on dogs’ health.
D.To identify the reasons for dogs’ stress in shelters.
33.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The limitations of housing dogs alone.
B.The benefits of co-housing dogs in the lab.
C.The achievement of previous related studies.
D.The necessity of conducting the new study.
34.How did the researchers measure stress levels of the dogs?
A.By changing the dogs’ shelters. B.By performing a compatibility test.
C.By analyzing their biological samples. D.By recording the frequency of their conflicts.
35.According to the study, why did the co-housed dogs get adopted faster?
A.They had shorter stay length in the shelter.
B.They interacted better with their partners.
C.They seemed to be loyal to the new adopters.
D.They exhibited greater ability to live alone.
第二节(共5小题; 每小题2分, 满分10分)
阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In every culture throughout time, the kitchen has had a powerful influence. The simple practice of sitting
down together at the table gives us the chance to connect and communicate. 36
It depends on where you live, your age, and other factors, but the answer is, yes. Our intentions for “home”
are evolving.
37 Fast-paced lifestyles and work schedules make it hard to find time to shop for groceries and
prepare meals. Online food delivery services have taken off, too. In 2016, one in 10 Chinese were ordering food
online. Throughout Europe, online ordering is capturing 56 percent of the market in Sweden and 43 percent in
Austria. In India, online food ordering is expected to reach close to $12m(US)by 2023.
While there is a trend towards bring-in and order-in food, as well as dining out, the kitchen is still a core in
home life. Food & Wine cited a survey in 22 countries asking about cooking habits. 38 At the lower
end were South Koreans, who spent just 3.7 hours per week cooking. People in India were at the top with 13.2
hours per week spent in the kitchen.
Simply being in the kitchen, cooking and eating with other people, can have healthy benefits. Regardless ofits size, the kitchen is a warm and inviting place. 39 The difference is, now you can follow a recipe on your
iPad while cooking.
It’s true that impersonal appliances are connecting to each other and to us. Refrigerators order vegetables.
Cooktop hoods with sensors turn on by themselves. While technology and our expectations for the kitchen are
shape-shifting in real time, the fundamentals remain the same. 40
A.So is cooking a way to express yourself?
B.The global average was almost 6.5 hours.
C.But is our relationship to the kitchen changing?
D.It’s like gathering around a campfire in the past.
E.People seem to be spending less time cooking worldwide.
F.Now more of them are eating outside the home more frequently.
G.The kitchen is where we connect with food and company in the soul of the home.
